Chapter 203 - Chapter 203: The Meeting

After standing in place and pondering for a while, Seimei shook his head and stopped thinking about it. He then made his way to the area where the injured were being treated. There was still an hour left before the meeting, so he decided to use the time to work on improving his proficiency in the "Healing Palm Technique."

Currently, his skill in the "Healing Palm Technique" had reached level 6, but advancing from level 6 to level 7 required a staggering 10,000 points of proficiency. Simply relying on practice would be far too slow.

So, any chance to gain practical experience was something he couldn't miss.

Although this would temporarily prevent him from using the Yang Release chakra he had accumulated to enhance his body, sharpening the axe won't delay chopping wood. The sooner he maxed out the "Healing Palm Technique" to level 7, the more effective his body strengthening would become.

Arriving at the area where the wounded were being treated, Seimei saw that medical ninjas were already hard at work. He smoothly blended into the scene, quietly starting to heal the injured.

The other medical ninjas didn't say much when they saw him join. They simply nodded in acknowledgment before returning to their tasks. Clearly, they were used to Seimei showing up now and then to lend a hand.

Time passed second by second, and after about fifty minutes, Seimei paused his treatment. He informed the squad leader of the medical team and then left.

As he made his way to the meeting room, Seimei glanced at his skill panel. He saw that his proficiency in the "Healing Palm Technique" had increased by 120 points.

"Not bad," he muttered to himself before closing the panel and heading directly to the meeting room.

When he arrived, quite a few people were already there, all of them Jonin.

Seeing him enter, everyone nodded in greeting. Some even went out of their way to say hello.

Seimei keenly noticed a subtle change in their attitudes toward him—they seemed… warmer than before!?

Not only that, but in their gazes, Seimei could also detect a hint of wariness.

'What's going on?'

Seimei wondered inwardly but quickly figured out the reason.

After all, the only thing that could make them wary was strength.

And strength…

Conveniently, Seimei had demonstrated it in the recent battle.

While he spent most of the time conserving his energy and harvesting chakra during the cleanup, earlier in the fight, he had taken on multiple Iwagakure Jonin, killing four of them and severely injuring another.

Though of the four he killed, only two were true Jonin, with the other two being Tokubetsu Jonin who specialized in certain skills, it still highlighted his strength.

Thus, it was only natural for them to be wary.

This also made Seimei realize that his decision to hold back in the final moments had been the right one.

Even with his current accomplishments, he had already drawn some wariness. Had he gone ahead and killed those two Iwagakure Jonin as well, it wouldn't just be wariness he faced.

Perhaps these Jonin wouldn't act against him, but what about those who were hostile to the Uchiha clan? There was no guarantee that they wouldn't take some sort of action after receiving the news.

With that in mind, Seimei suddenly felt far less enthusiastic about the upcoming meeting.

All he wanted now was to go back and grind his various skills to increase his power.

Only by being truly strong could he find peace of mind.

But leaving now would be inappropriate, so Seimei had no choice but to wait patiently for the meeting to begin.

Luckily, he didn't have to wait too long. Just a few minutes later, Nara Sui appeared to host the meeting.

He sat at the head of the table, knocked on it a few times, and formally announced the start of the meeting.

First, Nara Sui summarized the gains and losses from the battle.

The equipment seized or lost wasn't the main focus; the most important factor was the casualty count on both sides.

According to post-battle statistics, a total of 93 Iwagakure shinobi had been eliminated.

This included 18 Jonin (11 of whom were Tokubetsu Jonin), 63 Chunin, and 12 Genin.

For a mere outpost, this was a massive achievement.

Of course, this particular outpost was unique. If it had been any other, they'd be lucky not to have been overrun, let alone rack up such a kill count.

After all, the personnel at this outpost were mostly made up of elite shinobi who had participated in the counteroffensive over a month ago.

Having gone through several brutal battles and a secondary selection process, the average strength of the shinobi here was exceptional.

That's how they managed to annihilate Iwagakure's strike force.

Even so, the cost had not been small.

"In this battle, we lost eight Jonin, forty-six Chunin, and thirty-two Genin. In addition, about sixty others were either lightly or seriously injured," Nara Sui said solemnly.

Upon hearing this, everyone in the room fell silent.

With 86 casualties, their losses were nearly equal to those of Iwagakure. At best, they could consider this a hard-fought victory.

Of course, if they were to be precise, Iwagakure's loss was more severe, particularly given the disparity in Jonin deaths, which favored them by a ratio of two to one.

But still, their side had sustained heavy losses.

After a moment of silence, Nara Sui continued, "We also have Seimei to thank for this victory."

Upon hearing this, all eyes turned to Seimei.

'What does this have to do with me?' Seimei wondered, puzzled.

Then, Nara Sui explained, "If Seimei hadn't held off the pressure at the start and taken down several Iwagakure Jonin, while keeping two others occupied, our losses would have been far worse."

The others nodded in agreement.

Indeed, the highest casualty rate had been during the initial defense. Nearly 80% of the deaths occurred at that stage.

As for the later cleanup…

Because they had the advantage in numbers, even when some were injured, they were often saved by others, so there were relatively few deaths after the battle's initial phase.

During that critical early period, Seimei had played a vital role, so Nara Sui's praise was well-deserved.

Still, Seimei couldn't shake the feeling that there was an undertone of flattery that could lead to harm.

He glanced at Nara Sui sitting at the head of the table, but there was nothing revealing in his expression.

'I hope I'm just overthinking things,' Seimei muttered inwardly.

In a calm voice, he said, "I was just doing what I had to do. The ones we should really be thanking are the 86 comrades who gave their lives. They're the ones who bought us this victory with their sacrifice."

Seimei's politically correct statement stifled any attempts to flatter him further.

Nara Sui shot him a surprised look but quickly moved on with a few more comments before introducing the second agenda item.

The next topic was the defense plan moving forward.

Iwagakure had suffered a heavy blow, but they were unlikely to back down. If they could mount one surprise attack, they could mount a second or even a third.

As such, defense was now of the utmost importance.

Everyone was well aware of this, and after some discussion, they quickly drafted a solid defense plan.

"Good. From now on, stick to the plan," Nara Sui summarized.

With the meeting drawing to a close, Nara Sui finally brought up the reason behind Iwagakure's sudden large-scale attack.
