Aiden was on his way back home when he got the notification. A ping from Valeria.
Galactus is close.
His expression turned grim as he immediately changed course, diverting straight toward the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
He landed on the deck with urgency. Natasha was already waiting for him.
"What's the situation?" he asked.
"He's been spotted near Saturn," Natasha replied without delay. "Based on our calculations, he'll be visible to the naked eye in two hours… and on Earth by tomorrow. The worst-case scenario just became reality."
"Damn it," Aiden muttered. "So he's coming a day early… I was hoping we'd have more time. I didn't want this to turn into a direct confrontation."
Natasha gave a small nod. "None of us did. But it is what it is. Everyone will be here in about half an hour for the final meeting. Prep yourself—we'll need your input. I'm off to notify the others."
Aiden watched her go, then turned and made his way down to the lab.
Inside, he found chaos disguised as progress. Banner, Toni, Wanda, Jean, Valeria, and Richards were all present, hard at work. They looked exhausted.
Valeria turned as he entered. "Aiden... Hey. Uh… it's bad."
"What's wrong?" he asked, walking in further.
"What's not wrong," Toni groaned as he slumped in his chair.
Richards wiped his brow and stood. "We agreed on the final weapon design—essentially a rocket infused with raw power. The problem is stability. The energies we're using... they just won't hold."
"The whole structure hinges on stabilizing those energies," Banner added, "but no matter how we approach it, they reject one another."
Wanda crossed her arms, frustration clear in her tone. "I expected as much. Chaos Magic and the Phoenix Force—those powers don't cooperate. They repel."
"I'm sorry," Jean added quietly. Her disappointment was heavy.
"It's not your fault, Jean," Valeria said gently.
"We both know our powers are barely manageable on their own," Wanda agreed. "Combining them is... madness."
"So what's the solution?" Aiden asked, arms folded.
"The original plan," Wanda explained, "was to use the Silver Surfer's board as the base. Its cosmic composition could theoretically trap the energies in one place. The hope was, once forced together, the powers would stabilize and grow stronger—forming a threat even Galactus would hesitate to challenge. Enough energy to wipe out a solar system… if unleashed. That's why it was only ever meant as a deterrent."
"The cosmic silver from the board is insanely strong," Toni chimed in, "but there's just not enough of it. Cutting or reshaping it was nearly impossible. Thankfully, your girl's a damn genius—she figured it out."
Valeria gave a faint, tired smile.
"Even so," Toni continued, "the material won't hold the energy. Every time we get close to a test phase, we have Strange teleport the test subject to a pocket dimension… and every time, boom. An explosion big enough to vaporize the entire Helicarrier."
"And that's just with tiny samples of Chaos and Phoenix energy," Banner said. "The more we put in, the stronger the blast."
Richards nodded. "And with the limited cosmic silver we have… there's no way it'll work at the scale we need."
"We're looking into making more," Valeria added. "Reverse-engineering the components. It's not impossible, just… not something we can pull off in two days."
Aiden frowned. "So… what? Is there anything else?"
Valeria hesitated. "We even considered a taboo."
"A taboo?" he repeated.
"I call it that," she admitted, "but it might be our only real option. We studied the Silver Surfer. His body is made of the same cosmic silver. Killing him would give us a huge amount of the material. Enough to make his body our container"
Aiden didn't even hesitate. "If that's what it takes, do it."
"Well," Wanda said dryly, "I am cruel, and I already planned on doing it. But it still won't be enough. Even his body can't contain the level of energy we're trying to harness."
Aiden ran a hand through his hair. "Well… shit. I might have a solution."
All eyes turned to him.
"You do?" Valeria asked.
"Yeah. And it's… not good. Like, very not good. If this goes south, I might end up a cannibal."
"What do you mean?" Valeria asked, eyes narrowing with concern.
Aiden paused, his face shadowed by hesitation. "This is bad… Get me whatever's left of the board."
Toni raised an eyebrow. "What are you planning, kid?"
"Eating it," Aiden said flatly.
"Eating it?" Banner blinked. "That stuff will kill you. Why would you even want to eat it?"
Aiden let out a quiet sigh, then raised his hand. With a brief flash of light, his arm shifted—first to iron, then gold. It shimmered with an unnatural gleam before returning to normal.
"I have a unique ability," he explained. "When I consume a metal or ore, I can harness its properties. Not everything works, but materials like iron, silver, and gold do. And I've been thinking… if those work, then why not Cosmic Silver?"
Wanda gave a small nod, her gaze sharp. "That's what you meant earlier. The 'cannibal' part."
"What? I still don't get it," Banner said, glancing between them.
Toni crossed his arms. "What he means is… if the board's not enough, he'll eat Silver Surfer himself. That's it, right?"
Aiden gave a grim nod. "Yeah. That's what I meant. If I have to become something monstrous to save Earth… then so be it."
No one said a word. They understood. And despite the horror of it, they agreed.
A few minutes later, they brought out the board—contained in a specialized pod designed to keep its cosmic energy from destabilizing the room. The containment field was lifted, and raw cosmic energy pulsed through the air as Aiden stepped forward.
He caught the board in both hands.
Then took a bite.
The others watched in tense silence as he chewed.
Crunch.
He swallowed, his expression unchanging.
Another bite.
Crunch.
Another.
Crunch.
'Damn Dragon Slayers… eating our elements is supposed to taste amazing,' he thought bitterly, jaw grinding through the dense, glowing silver. 'Why does it always taste like burnt trash to me?'
He kept going. Bite after bite. Until the board was nearly gone.
Still nothing.
He stared down at the last chunk. "Still not enough, huh?"
Without waiting, he shoved it into his mouth and swallowed.
And then—nothing.
No reaction. No energy surge. No transformation.
Just… silence.
Aiden stood still, his fists tightening.
He knew what came next.
There was no way around it now.
If the board wasn't enough...
Then he had to consume the Silver Surfer himself.
To save the world…He had to become a cannibal.
(A/N: Hey everyone! I apologize for the recent delays. I really want to post more frequently, but with exams going on, the dorms have been packed and the internet has been terrible. It's been tough to even get online, let alone study, find time for myself, and write. Once my exams are over, I'll be back to a regular posting schedule. Don't worry—Aidan's journey is far from over! Thank you all for your patience and support!)
