Since Aiden wasn't directly involved in the creation of the weapon, he took some time for himself. First, he visited his family—his parents and Eve. After all, once again, he was about to walk into danger, and they deserved his attention. Despite stepping back from the core project, he stayed in the loop; Valeria kept in constant contact, updating him on every detail.

But tonight… tonight was different.

He had made a promise.

To Gwen.

Aiden chose a high-end restaurant tucked in a quieter part of New York. Classy, with just enough charm to feel special. He arrived early, dressed neatly but not overdressed, wanting to strike the right balance between formal and familiar.

She arrived exactly on time.

When Gwen walked in, the dim lighting caught her just right—her elegant black dress shimmered with understated grace, her hair tucked back in a clean bun, leaving only her smile to steal the spotlight.

"You look beautiful," Aiden said with a soft, honest smile.

Gwen returned it, her eyes warm… but cautious. "You too. But… isn't this a bit wrong?" she asked gently. "I heard from Peter. About your new girlfriend—Valeria?"

Aiden chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. "Yeah… sorry about that. I know how it sounds. But this—tonight—this is still something I meant. I promised you something special, and I always keep my promises."

She sat down across from him, folding her hands over the table. "So, what's the plan? You take me out on this fancy date, give me a sweet gift, and then what? Disappear? Lead me on? That your kind of fun, Aiden?"

"I—no, Gwen. That's not what this is." He leaned in, voice softer. "Look—"

"Ah, there it is!" she interrupted, smirking bitterly. "The classic 'look' before the bullshit starts. Just… save it, okay? I'm not stupid. Yeah, I liked you—hell, I still do. First time I saw you walk into the lab? I was already crushed. Dumb, right? Barely knew you a week."

She sighed, glancing away.

"But I get it. You found someone. Your heart's somewhere else."

Aiden looked at her seriously. "Are you really okay with that?"

She laughed once, bitter and quiet. "Well, fuck no, Aiden. What do you want me to say? That I'm happy for you? You show up out of a portal or whatever, ask me out, then turn around and have a girlfriend waiting on the other side? And now what—Valeria's 'the one' because what? She's better? You never cared? Was I just something to flirt with in the meantime?"

"No, Gwen. It's not like that."

"Then explain it to me."

Aiden took a breath. He wasn't great at this—being vulnerable, open—but she deserved honesty.

"I like you. A lot," he said, voice firm. "And I like Valeria too. And… they're not the only ones."

Gwen raised a brow. "You're kidding."

"I'm not. I—I know how that sounds. I don't know how to say this in a way that doesn't make me sound like an asshole, but… I just have a big heart, okay?"

She rolled her eyes.

"I know. Hypocritical. Weird. Unfair. But it's the truth. Our world isn't normal, Gwen. Flying heroes, mutants, literal magic, and now a cosmic god coming to eat our planet. None of this is normal. So why should love be?"

He exhaled. "I don't know what tomorrow brings. But I know that I like you. The same way I like Valeria. That's the truth. All of it."

Gwen stared at him, gears visibly turning behind her eyes. His words rang raw, unfiltered… and infuriating.

"So what—you're asking me to share you?"

Aiden looked down. "I'm not asking you to. I wouldn't be okay with it if it were the other way around. I get it. I really do. You don't have to say yes to this. You probably shouldn't. I just… I wanted you to know where I stand. That it wasn't a game. That I care about you."

Gwen paused, then asked, "And Valeria? She's okay with it?"

"She was… indifferent. Her world was devastated. People were scarce. It was common where she came from, I guess. Her focus is more on rebuilding than relationships."

"And the others?" Gwen asked carefully.

"I don't know yet. Back at Xavier's, there were a couple of girls I grew close to. They're the reason I started thinking this way in the first place."

Gwen leaned back, crossing her arms. "Still… I don't know how to feel about any of this, Aiden. What if it was me doing this? Dating multiple guys?"

"I'd hate it," he admitted without hesitation. "Which makes me a hypocrite. I know."

She nodded slowly. "At least you admit it."

"I don't expect you to understand this, Gwen. Or accept it. Just… think about it. Take your time. Do what's right for you. I'm sorry for putting you in this position. I really am."

Gwen stood up, picking up her purse. She lingered a moment, clearly unsure whether to say something more—but then Aiden stopped her.

"Oh—wait. Your gift."

He reached under the table and handed her a small, neatly wrapped box. She opened it slowly.

Inside was a handcrafted, silver pendant shaped like a microscope, paired with a small, folded acceptance letter—her name at the top. Gwen's eyes widened.

"This is—?" she whispered.

"A letter of recommendation. From Reed Richards. For any science institution you want—Empire State, MIT, anywhere. I told him what you're capable of. He agreed."

She blinked, overcome by the weight of the gesture. "Aiden… this is really thoughtful. Thank you."

"You're welcome," he said gently. "Good night, Gwen."

She looked at him for one more heartbeat, then nodded.

"Good night, Aiden."

And just like that, she turned and walked away—pendant in hand, heart torn between logic and emotion.

And Aiden… sat alone once again, staring out the window, knowing full well he was playing with fire.

But when the world could end in four days—who wasn't?
