The massive wall that Vlad had created went beyond everyone's imagination or expectations…
"W-What the fuck did you make now, Paul?!" Chris screamed.
"W-Wooah! This looks scary and so cool!" Ermelinda said.
"Well, technically it is a living wall, but also a monster, a spirit, and a golem, and it has a part of the spiritualization of my blood ki," Vlad explained as he floated towards them. "Come on, there's no need to get scared; things like these are just common in Obscuritas."
"I-I guess…" Chris sighed. "But it's still ridiculous! Damn, can't you give us a break for one day?"
"You're also well known for doing ridiculous things, Chris; don't act like I'm the only one finding crazy exploits… You tamed a giant dragon after all," Vlad laughed.
"U-uuh… I guess so… I mean, this is pretty amazing, yeah…" Chris nodded. "It's cool as fuck actually… It's just that… Yeah, I mean, being surprised doesn't mean I hate it or something! Don't get the wrong idea, okay? It's amazing…!"
Chris had a hard time praising others; it wasn't in his nature to be honest all the time, and he always liked teasing instead.
"Hahah, well, I just did something crazy and waited until it worked," Vlad laughed. "And… ugh…"
However, he suddenly felt sick, falling from the sky.
"V-VLAD?!"
Ermelinda was the first to scream as Chris's eyes widened.
"Shit!"
He quickly spread his wings and flapped strongly, rushing down to catch him.
"Got you!"
As Chris caught him, he slowly descended into the middle of one of the streets near the walls. There was a small street market there, and people quickly glanced at the scene in awe but without getting too close.
"Ugh…! Ah… Did I…?"
As the Vampire Prince realized what happened, he was already being carried by the deceptively strong, delicate arms of an Incubus.
"You fell! Did you exhaust ALL of your Arcana?"
As Alitheus reprimanded him, people gathered around the scene; Ermelinda got there last, trying to calm down the crowd.
"I-Is Prince Vlad alright?"
"He seems to have reinforced the walls!"
"They look amazing…"
"It's as if we're living inside a fortress now, haha!"
"I have never felt this safe before…"
"H-He even made a magic barrier, didn't he?!"
"Prince Vlad! Prince Vlad!"
A few children got past Ermelinda and ran to see him.
It was a trio of adorable kids: a blood elf girl wearing a gray, slightly tattered dress; a werewolf boy wearing rags; and an orc child with a bare chest, wearing only brown leather shorts.
"Are you okay?!"
"Please get better!"
"Here, we'll share with you what we saved for later!"
"Hmm?"
Vlad and Alitheus looked back as they saw the orc child offering a piece of charcoal-black bread to the vampire prince.
"Ah, children… There's no need…" Vlad muttered, smiling. "But… well, who am I to reject such a tasty-looking piece of bread? Thank you."
He acted very gentlemanly; despite his imposing figure, he had a kind smile, and his sickly appearance made people feel he was a bit more approachable than other, more intimidating vampires.
As he ate the very hard bread until he finished, drinking a Magic Potion to recover his Arcana and feeling better, he sighed in relief.
"That was delicious, thank you…" He smiled gently.
The children's eyes shone brightly as he patted their heads!
An experience like this was one in a million! They were very lucky.
"D-Do you feel better, sir?" The cute blood elf girl wondered; her big red eyes were adorable.
"Yes, I feel much better, all thanks to you; you're real heroes," Vlad laughed lightly.
"Hmph…" Chris looked at the three while sitting cross-legged in the air.
"Wow, we're heroes!" The werewolf boy said.
"Yeah! Maybe we can become soldiers in the future if we work hard?" the orc boy wondered.
"I don't want to become a soldier though; I'll become a Blood Paladin!" the blood elf girl said with a proud smile, acting high and mighty.
"Hahah… Aren't you cute? Here," Vlad laughed as he opened his inventory. "A gift for all three of you."
He gave each child a ring he had made previously; they were crafted from powerful, valuable metals and embedded with red blood crystals.
"W-What?!"
"No way!"
"R-Really?!"
Their kindness ended up being repaid a thousand-fold!
"Yes, I happen to have many of those; I am quite good at crafting, you see," Vlad said. "You can keep them; these rings will make you stronger and give you Arcana. You can begin practicing magic with them. If you practice and train enough… maybe one day you'll join the army. I'll gladly welcome strong-willed people like you. Oh, right, I almost forgot."
He quickly gave them a leather bag full of goodies: fresh fruits, vegetables, bread, blood wieners, and even monster meat.
"This is a Food Bag I had stored for emergencies. I usually don't eat food and only drink blood, as a vampire. So you can keep this."
"S-SO MUCH FOOD!"
"NO WAY!"
"OOOOHHH!"
As the children's eyes sparkled with happiness and awe, the rest of the people looked on in surprise at the scene.
"Lord Vlad is giving gifts to the kind children…"
"To think they were rewarded…!"
"Usually vampires don't tolerate people getting close to them like that…"
"If it had been someone else, those children would have suffered a fate far worse than simply giving away their last bread…"
"See?! I've always said that Prince Vlad is a good person! Whoever slanders him is a bastard!"
"He's indeed a prince who's for the people!"
"Y-Yeah! I-I have never doubted him!"
"Mama, can I also get a ring if I give him a piece of bread?"
"I wouldn't try that, dear… We already lost the opportunity, haha…"
As Vlad heard all the people of all shapes and sizes talking, he felt slightly embarrassed…
But also more connected.
These people weren't just faceless NPCs that walked around automatically in a city management game he had played many times in his childhood.
No, each person had their families, their lives, their stories…
"Someone may steal what I gave you, so tell me where you live, and we'll bring you there," Vlad said. "Alright?"
"Ooohhh!"
"R-Really?!"
"Well, we live at the Blood Heart Orphanage!"
Alitheus looked at the kids with a slightly weirded-out expression.
"Who the hell names an orphanage like that?"
As he grumbled, the kids looked at him in awe; the boys blushed quite a bit, and the girl was fascinated.
"Oooh! Is this… Are you Lord Vlad's… fiancée?" the girl asked. "You're so pretty, ma'am!"
"Woah…" the werewolf boy muttered.
"Prince Vlad sure is good at picking cute girls!" The orc boy nodded.
"G-Girl? I'm a boy, you know?! These brats…" Alitheus sighed.
