Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Final Stand

Walking through the dumb and narrow hallway, we look up to what seems to be the exit. Sorrein narrows his eyes, the way put was way too convenient and just what we needed. He turns to his leader and raises a brow.

"Do you see what i see?" He asked without glancing at him. The almighty leader turns to me with defeat in his eyes and a painful sigh. Raising my eyebrows at him, I glance at this obvious trap in silence while stroking my chin for a beard that was no longer existent in this new life.

Grabbing a piece of debris, I launch the pebble just far enough to just touch the stairs leading to the exit. The pebble hadn't even landed when it was crushed to dust by the immense paws of a colossal beast that had the facial structures of a bear. Its eyes slowly opening up one after the other as soon as its right above the only source of light.

"W-what the hell is that!?" Sorrein screeched on the verge of tears from the fatigue these beasts were putting him through. Its other two heads soon emerged from the darkness as it towered over us. Its pitch black fur blending in almost perfectly with the poorly lit room where our tomb stones were soon doomed to lie. Glaring down at us with malice radiating off of its snowy white eyes, each of its heads started inspecting us from a distance with almost aimless movements.

'Its probably blind, if we remain quiet and sneak around it-' I was immediately cut off from my thoughts by Sorrein who was violently pulling my shirt. Looking in his direction, The beast was glaring right at me with such overwhelming intensity that it was almost impossible to breathe! My arms were shaking, palms were sweaty and my mind was blank! Staring into its eye like a deer in the headlights, remaining calm was all in vain.

I immediately started panicking wondering how it moved so quickly and so quietly! I didn't want to look up, i knew it would end me in seconds! Feeling its hot breath brush between Sorrein and I, I hear it mentally whisper. "I can see you."

I could hear all its three voices echo in my mind, i could see three heads but it spoke like as if they were one! "Hey what's the plan!?" Sorrein screeched as he witnessed the bear open its jaws wide enough to reveal cataclysmic energy. I wasn't stupid, i knew when to give up and staring at these three heads made it clear the next course of action.

"HEY BOY GENIUS!?" Sorrein was practically shaking! "Fire boy, now!" I roared at the beast to keep its attention on me. Like a flash of lightning, a ferocious flame erupted at the side of its face!

"Call me that again and I will burn you alive!" He roared with such passion that it almost seemed like he forgot that he was in a life or death situation. "Not now you imbeciles!" Sorrein cried out while sprinting for the exit,

"You're leaving us!? COWARD!!"

Dashing past the monstrosity, we make our way to the last line of hope in form of a very narrow doorway! The monster turned towards us, roared and started sprinting in our direction! "MUMMYYYYY!!" Sorrein cried out while barely holding on to his sanity.

Keeping pace, it felt like we were nearly home free! It felt like we were so close to the feeling of the sun shining down on our traumatized faces. It felt like nothing could stop our escape at that point. Hardly had I started to sigh with relief when Sorrein violently pushed me out of the way! The ground where I stood was shattered into nothing but debris and pebbles! Even though for a brief moment, our pitiful attempt at survival felt liberating to say the least.

'That could have been me!' I thought to myself before fire boy forced me to my feet. "You better get your ass moving or you will get us all killed!" he roared before sending off another blast of fire at the beast. I couldn't believe he and Sorrein still felt like keeping me around for this long. It was actually inspiring, inspiring enough to give me a plan. We immediately hid behind some of the giant pillars that were barely holding the place up. Noticing this, i had an idea

"New plan, fire boy." I whispered while dusting off my banged up uniform. "Spit it out kid." He growled as if trying to sound tough. "You are 14 years old and you wanna call me a kid?" I snorted and held back my laughter.

"Don't make me feed you to the monster." he retorted earning my momentary silence. "Alright hear me out." I added and summoned Sorrein to draw closer. Moments later Sorrein ran out of spot to get the monster's attention and threw a rock at it. "O-over here!" He called and immediately dashed for the spot we had planned for at the center of two pillars ahead of a single pillar.

Making it past the checkpoint, Fire boy and I emerged out of the two pillars and fired at the beasts legs! The ground beneath it Shattered and threw of its balance. The monster tumbled and hurled into the last pillar, weakening it enough for Sorrein to do his thing!

"Sorrein, bury this bastard." Fire boy commanded with an emotionless tone. "You got it boss." Sorrein retorted with the same energy and broke down the pillar along with the rest of the room. We stood firm as we witnessed the monster disappear underneath all the rubble to make sure it stayed down.

"Lets go boys, I have had enough for one day." Fire boy growled and turned away from the monster's graveyard. "Sure thing Nyambe." I commented while following close behind him. "You knew my name?" He asked while slowly increasing his pace. "Its on your uniform boss!" Sorrein added while sprinting for the exit!

Following close behind him, a beam of dark energy is shot in our direction destroying the ground ahead of us and throwing us off our feet! "Its alive!?" I was baffled to say the least! "Come on lets go!" Nyambe roared lifting me to my feet only to witness another blast heading our way.

Sorrein immediately stepped forward and pulled up a wall to protect us! The monstrosity initiated rapid fire and Sorrein kept the wall tall and strong. "Alright good job, now come-on, lets get out here!" Nyambe commanded and Sorrein sighed.

"I cant do that boss, someone has to keep this wall up." "Don't play with me, now forget the wall and lets go, now!" He commanded but Sorrein refused to let go. "Sir you have to go." Sorrein spoke as if holding back his tears. "Don't make me come over there and whoop your ass, Sorrein, just drop the wall and lets go, i refuse to lose you too."

Nyambe tightened his fists with frustration.

The wall was collapsing and Sorrein couldn't hold it up any longer, standing here was gonna make it even harder for him to keep this window open for us. "Dammit Nyambe, get out of here now! You think I like what i am doing!?" Sorrein roared with anger, tears now cascading down his face.

The Dark energy was starting to seem more and more visible through the cracks in the wall. "Nyambe time to go, now!" "Don't tell me you wanna listen to him!" "The longer we stand here the harder it will be for him to defend us, lets make sure we avenge his sacrifice once we survive this!"

Nyambe sighed and looked at Sorrein and loosened his fists. "I will see you on the other side." He commented while squeezing Sorrein's shoulder and suddenly Launched him at me! "What the fu-" "Coulthard, get him out here, he's done enough, its my time to take the spotlight!" He said with a large grin on his face.

Nyambe turned to the wall and let out his own burst of hell fire to fend off the dark energy the beast was relentlessly blasting in our direction! Picking up Sorrein, I shoot fire out of my feet to propel us towards the exit. Turning back, I witness the blast engulf Wellburne while he had nothing else but a smile of relief on his face. 'Well done fire boy.' I thought to myself while holding Sorrein who was struggling to reach out to his boss.

An explosion instantaneously sent us flying out of the exit and into what seemed to be a forest. "Where are we now?" I asked aloud while inspecting the area for anymore surprises.

"Huh, looks like you made it~" I heard a very familiar voice that lit up bottomless rage within my soul. Sorrein and i turned our faces towards the lady who was seated just above one of the trees. "Congratulations." She smirked and proceeded to cross her legs.

Gritting my teeth, I turned my crimson red eyes to the wench and my voice seemed to deepen as I spoke out of pure malice. "We need to have a word with you."
