The sound came too fast to react to.
Thwip!
A sharp hiss split the air as something thin and fast flew past Yunfeng's head, missing him by inches. His eyes widened, his body ducking instinctively as he realized what it was—a tranquilizer dart.
He twisted the bike handle, his body leaning into the turn. The tires screeched against broken pavement, sending shards of stone flying.
"Shit," he spat under his breath. "They're here already."
Another thwip—this time from the opposite angle. A blur of movement flashed in the corner of his eye.
Thunk!
The dart embedded itself in his upper thigh.
His breath hitched. For one terrible second, everything froze. Then his body flared in pain as something cold and numbing spread from the wound, latching onto his nerves like ice.
Yunfeng's hands began to shake.
His fingers slipped slightly on the handlebars.
"No… not now…"
