Chapter 3 - The System Awakens!

Just like his dreams, Mason returned to the void from his dreams, it was dark, but it wasn't completely empty. A faint light casted a dim glow over his face.

It was a blue holographic interface.

"What..."

[System activate....]

"What is this? Charisma? Heightened senses? Telekinesis?" He had finally lost it. All those sleepless nights had pushed him to the point of heavy hallucinations. It felt like a dream, yet at the same time, it was far too real.

"Huh?" His mind was in a frantic whirl, everything happening so fast that he didn't even have the luxury of processing his own death.

Before he could comprehend what was happening, the darkness around him vanished in an instant, thrusting him back into reality—where the speeding truck was seconds away from sending him and his friends to the afterlife.

The truck driver slammed on the brakes, but the truck's speed was his greatest enemy, making it impossible to stop in time.

"Get out of the way!!"

"Stop!" Just before the truck could hit them, Mason's eyes glowed red, and for a brief moment, everything around him became still, almost as if time itself had frozen.

"W-what." Mason stuttered, his gaze fixed on his friends. They were frozen in place, and even the speeding truck had come to a complete stop.

"What is happening..." He couldn't explain what was happening. The pain in his chest had faded, and in its place, he felt stronger—more alive than he had ever felt."

Realizing the danger, he quickly rose to his feet and shoved his friends out of the truck's path.

The moment he did, everything snapped back to normal, and the truck shot past them like a bullet.

"Fuck!"

His friends crashed to the ground, their hearts pounding in their chests. Though they were alive, they had already felt it.

The presence of the angel of death, coming for their souls—only for them to narrowly escape its grasp just in the nick of time.

The truck came to a sudden stop, and the driver got out, enraged.

"Are you kids drunk!? Are you trying to get yourselves killed!?"

They didn't know what to say. Much like the fear-stricken truck driver, they had believed they were dead, only to narrowly escape death themselves.

"W-we're s-sorry." Their near-death experience left them stammering, a feeling too intense to shake off easily.

"This is why you follow road safety regulations! Look left, then right, then left again before you cross the goddamn road! Nobody is ready to be giving condolences to the family of the deceased!"

In a fit of rage, he stormed into the truck and sped off with shaky hands.

"Are you guys alright?" Mason, the only one still on his feet, approached them.

"Y-yeah, we'll be fine."

"What happened back there? We thought we was dead, no, we were supposed to be dead, then suddenly we found ourselves on the other side of the road."

"Maybe it's God's favor?"

"Yeah... Maybe." Mason stared at his palm, trying to make sense of everything that had happened. His red-glowing eyes had returned to normal the moment everything started moving again.

It all happened too quickly.

Just as things seemed to have calmed down a bit, another holographic interface materialized in Mason's field of vision.

"Huh?" His expression shifted as he glanced at the hologram.

'An Incubus!? As in a demon that has sex with women!? What the fuck!?'

"Hey Mason, what's wrong?" Mike and Peters noticed his strange expression and assumed he was still in shock from what had just happened.

"I'm fine, I'm guess I'm still a bit shaken up from all that has happened so far. Wait, can't you guys see it?"

"See what?" They glanced at each other in confusion, unable to see the holographic interface hovering above his head.

"Oh, my bad."

Their expressions shifted instantly, and they lunged at him.

"Something is very wrong with you man."

"Yeah! You almost got us killed performing your post wank technique!"

"Hey! First of all, I do not grab my chest and fall to the ground when I'm done wanking and second I'm sorry, I didn't know what was happeni-"

It was then that it clicked.

His eyes shifted back to the holographic interface, glancing through it intently like a lion tracking its prey.

It was then that he realized it.

'Spirit power!? Wait a second... Does that mean?? I finally awakened?? My spirit power??"

He rubbed his eyes repeatedly, but each time, the outcome was the same—the holographic interface was still there, and it was real.

It was the only way to explain how they had survived the speeding truck that had nearly taken their lives.

Truly, he had awakened.

Before he could celebrate his awakening, a cold chill crept up his spine. He couldn't shake the feeling—the same ominous presence that had always been there, silently watching him.

"Mason?"

As his friends tried to understand what was bothering him, Mason slowly turned toward the source of the cold, chilling aura that crawled down his spine.

The moment his eyes settled in that direction, he saw it.

It wasn't the entity from his classroom nightmares—it was a woman with crimson eyes, flowing blonde hair, blood-red lipstick, and a chilling smile that stretched far too wide across her face.

Her gaze was cold and piercing, sharp enough to freeze him in place.

It was the woman from the mirror—but she was no longer just a reflection. She was real, standing before him, gazing at him with an ancient, hungry stare.
