Yonezu, who had been trying to nap, was woken up by a male student next to him shuffling his desk.
"Oh, sorry if I woke you up! I was just trying to fix my table," the boy said, looking a bit embarrassed.
Yonezu shook his head. "No worries. I can't really sleep anyway-these seats aren't exactly comfy."
The boy grinned. "I'm Kanzaki Ryuji. What about you?"
"Yonezu Haruto," he replied.
After that, the two sat quietly, not wanting to bother each other since they'd just met.
A few minutes later, a woman strolled into the room, her energy immediately filling the space. She clapped her hands, beaming at the class.
"Good morning, everyone! Looks like we're all here-awesome! Go ahead and grab your seats," she said with a cheerful wave.
"I'm Hoshinomiya Chie, and for the next three years, I'll be your homeroom teacher. I hope we'll have a blast together-adventures, fun, the whole package!" she said, giving the class a playful wink.
She started handing out some books and shiny new phones. "Alright, first things first: here's your school rulebook and your very own school phone. Please take a look when you get a chance-trust me, it's not as boring as it sounds!"
She leaned in conspiratorially. "Now, this school is a little different. You'll all be living in the dorms, and-plot twist!-no outside contact allowed. But don't panic, okay? We've got everything you could want right here. Want to shop? There's a mall. Craving sushi? We've got it. Thinking about grabbing a drink-" she paused dramatically, then grinned, "-well, that's where I have to draw the line. Sorry, future party animals!"
She held up one of the phones. "Here's the fun part: as long as you've got enough points-check your phone, you'll see-you can buy anything here. Points get topped up at the start of each month. One yen equals one point. Right now, you all have 100,000 points just for making it in! That's a lot of ramen, right?" she joked.
The classroom buzzed with excitement. 100,000 yen in points? That was wild.
Yonezu stared at his phone, noticing the "100,000 PPT" on the screen.
Sensing the class's shock, Hoshinomiya laughed. "Don't look so surprised! This is just the beginning-there's a lot more cool stuff coming your way, so just relax and enjoy it."
She looked around, hands on her hips. "Alright, that's my intro done. Any questions? Don't be shy-I promise I don't bite!"
The room was quiet. The students were still processing the whole '100,000 points' thing.
She chuckled. "Wow, I must've really stunned you guys! Or maybe you're just hungry. I get it."
Just then, Yonezu raised his hand. "Uh, Sensei, I actually have a couple of questions."
She grinned at him. "Go for it, Yonezu Haruto! Hit me with your best shot."
Yonezu stood up and pointed at his phone. "You keep saying 'points,' but my phone says 'PPT.' What does that stand for?"
She peeked at the phone and laughed. "Oh, that? Don't worry about it-it's just how the system labels your points here. Nothing complicated. You'll get used to it in no time!"
She looked around again. "Any other questions? Don't worry, no question's too weird."
Yonezu hesitated, then said, "Actually, I might have more questions later. Should I email you, or can I just come find you?"
She gave him a thumbs up. "Either way works! You can email me anytime, or just drop by the faculty office if you want to chat. And let's try to keep things easy for our class, alright?"
Yonezu grinned. "No promises."
She winked at him. "Alright, deal. If you need me, you know where to find me-just don't bring any wild animals into the office, please!"
She clapped her hands one last time. "Alright, everyone, that's it for today! Enjoy your first day, and let's make these next three years unforgettable!" With that, she bounced out of the room, leaving the class buzzing with excitement.
