Chapter 3 - mysterious clinic

Just as Eren finished reading the details of the first mission, the door opened noisily and in walked the old physician who had treated him.

The physician still had a smile on his face that made people instinctively uncomfortable.

Of course, Eren was in no mood to complain about it right now, so he decided to ignore the situation and complete his first task.

It was then that he remembered a trump card he felt he had to play as an ordinary person who had immigrated to Isekai. The best way to adapt to this world as a transmigrant is to pretend that the original owner of the body is still here and pretend to have amnesia.

In this way, even if the former owner of the body reveals a talent that he does not possess, all he has to do when people ask him about it is to deny everything.

For example, if he suddenly became good with a sword and someone who knew him in the past asked him about it, all he would have to do is say that he can use a sword instinctively.

The questioner would probably then think: oh, so he was secretly learning to use a sword before he lost his memory. Poor guy, maybe he's been preparing for years to take revenge, but now that he's lost his memory there's no point. It must be better for him, though...

"And, aren't you going to say anything? I was expecting at least a thank you."

The doctor's words interrupted Eren's thoughts, but Eren knew that this was the starting whistle of his role-playing marathon.

"I'm sorry, but where are we?"

"At my place, of course"

"No, I mean... Which country are we in?"

Although Eren's role-playing skills were not at a very high level, the role he had to play did not have a high requirement. The physician was briefly surprised by Eren's question, then raised one eyebrow and answered suspiciously.

"We are in Priodisma, the capital of the Natural Empire. From your expression, it seems like you've heard of this empire for the first time. But it's quite strange... Even though you received a few small blows to the head, none of them were strong enough to cause you to lose your memory completely."

Eren wanted to ask more questions to support his role, but the doctor kept thinking aloud to himself, so he didn't have the chance to interrupt.

"But it's still very strange. No matter how good your acting skills are, I can tell from your expression that this is the first time you've heard of the natural empire. And no one can lie well enough to fool a chief physician like me. Even if there are some oddities in your heart rhythm..."

As Eren continued to hear the physician's words, he realized that pretending wasn't going to be as easy as he thought.

"Come on, this is ridiculous. Even if you're a beggar, it's impossible that you've never heard the name of the country you're in even once. Look, I've had many patients who pretended to have amnesia to avoid paying their debts after the child woke up, but none of these patients were as good at pretending as you are... Wait a minute... Are you by any chance an ignorant peasant who fled here from another country?"

Eren had already calculated his next move during the long period of reflection the doctor had given him, and the moment he saw him stop talking, he started acting like someone who had suddenly gotten a headache while trying to remember something.

The old man watched him for just a second and then immediately told him to stop pretending.

"I am a chief physician, I can clearly feel the movements of your pupils, the sound of your heartbeat, the tiny movements of your muscles. Trying to lie in front of me is almost impossible for an ordinary child like you. I accept that somehow you don't even know the name of the country you live in. But you don't have to pretend anymore, your treatment was paid for by the people who brought you here. And before you ask, I was paid not to tell you who they are. Probably more money than you will ever see in your whole life... Anyway, if you can stand up, get the fuck up!"

Eren froze in place in a mixture of shock and shame as the old man turned around and left the room.

Once Eren got over his confusion thanks to the system screens, he checked the details of the 2nd mission. Unfortunately, the problem was that he didn't have even a small amount of money at the moment, so he ignored this mission for now and checked the last mission.

[Mission Three - Earn money: to survive in this world, you need either bulging muscles, magic power, or some money in your pocket. Earn at least 3 silver coins]

[Mission reward - 50 Xp, command upgrade - game mode on (new function: player's eyes)]

Player's eyes kah? I have a few things in mind about this ability based on my experience from my past playing close to a thousand different games.

The player's eyes ability could speed up my reflexes, or allow me to look at an area and simultaneously take in the details in every corner of it, but these are very unlikely possibilities.

If I were to take a guess based on how my system has worked so far, I would guess that the player's eyes ability is the ability to see the world through the eyes of a game character.

Anyway, everything will be revealed in time, now what I really need to do is...

Eren put his thoughts aside and decided to get as far away from the creepy doctor's eyes as possible.

Since his treatment was already paid for by the kind-hearted Angel who brought him here, he didn't hesitate to open the window of the room, jumped out, and quickly started walking away. Or rather, he tried...
