Chapter 4 - Another Skill

Sean had already anticipated a question like this. So, he had already prepared a response.

"A friend of mine from college told me that there was an opportunity. He has decided to give me an opportunity to get involved in legitimate businesses, helping him in managing some businesses.

He has plans of opening several businesses within this city, and since I am more familiar with this city, he believes that I would be able to take care of the businesses here." Sean said with a straight face.

Of course it was impossible for him to reveal anything about the system. Not only was it a risk to reveal the system, but he was also afraid that by allowing people in the family to know about the system, they would get worried, or might be in danger.

Michael frowned as he heard that. He was about to question, just what kind of business was going to lead to Sean being able to get $3,000 that he was promising to pay the following day, but Sean's mother spoke first.

"What kind of business is that? And, why would he trust you with something like that?" Abigail asked as she looked at Sean.

"We were good friends in college, and we still contacted each other even after school. His family owns a big corporation, and it has so many subsidiary companies. Some of those companies want to open small branches within this city, to try out how the business is going to work.

He trusted me in taking care of this issue, and he claimed that as long as I perform well, they would be able to improve the level of the company, or might even open bigger companies here." Sean responded.

He was trying to lay a foundation for a situation where he would be found with a lot of money. After all, it was not as if the system was for show.

Since the system was capable of multiplying the income by 10 times, it implied that there would be a rapid growth. So, Sean wanted his parents to understand when they saw him coming back with money, or purchasing different things.

Michael did not comment on this, but instead, he looked at Sean deeply, and in the end, he said, "Just make sure that it is not something illegal. If it is illegal, then you better give up on that opportunity."

Immediately after saying those words, he turned around and went to start cleaning up. Those gangsters had already caused quite some trouble, breaking a few things.

Abigail on the other hand looked at her son, before asking with concern, "Are you sure that this is not something legal that you want to get involved in? If it is illegal, just like your father said, you better give up. After all, while illegal methods always leads to someone getting rich faster, as long as they are exposed, not only would they end up in jail, but even the world that they would have accumulated would disappear in just a matter of a day or two."

Seeing the concern on his mother's face, Sean was touched. Despite his family not being that rich, the relationship between them was extremely good.

"Don't worry Mom. By tomorrow, I will be able to deal with the debt with those loan sharks. After that, we will be able to deal with the other debts as well. I will be receiving some money in advance, but that will be tomorrow." Sean responded.

"That's a relief to hear. But make sure that you don't mess up the opportunity as long as it is legal. If it is something that can help you prepare yourself for marriage in the future, that would be good." Abigail stated, relief clear on her face.

Sean was left speechless. This was not the first time that his mother was talking about marriage. While it was true that he did not even have a girlfriend right now, but he did not even have the time to think about girlfriends.

With the current situation of the family, it was obviously impossible for him to think about having a girl in his life. Unless his family situation was stable, he would definitely not think about adding someone else into the family, as that would be burdensome.

With the issue dealt with, Sean immediately set out. He did not help his parents in cleaning up the grocery, as he thought that it would be better to use this time to get the money.

While he had told his parents that his friend would be opening many companies or businesses within the city in the future, he was not that sure. After all, if the system disappeared the following day, what would he do?

So, it was better for him to use the system as much as possible, while it still existed. So, despite how tired he felt, he decided to start by spending all the money that he had saved till this day.

At the moment, he was not that sure about what counted as an investment and what did not. He was not willing to waste the money in buying something that would end up not giving him a cashback.

Right now, the only thing that he had tested out was food. As long as he purchased food and ate it, it would be considered as an investment, leading to the 10 times a return on investment.

Currently, Sean had accumulated a total of $273. This was the amount of money that he had saved after an entire year of doing different kinds of jobs.

Of course, this amount included the $20 that he had received from the system. Now, Sean was thinking about what kind of business he could start.

If he spent all the money that he currently had, and received a 10 times cash back from the system, he would have $2,730. But that was obviously not enough.

Not only was he supposed to repay the debt from the loan sharks, but he also had to remain with some money, considering that he would need the money in order to invest, before receiving the cashback from the system.

After thinking for a long while, he thought that this amount of money was definitely not enough to be able to be used to open any decent business. Additionally, it was already evening, not a very suitable time to discuss business.

Now, the only thing that he could do was obviously to purchase something that would have an immediate impact on him, so that he could receive the cashback from the system.

But even after thinking for a long time, he did not think about anything that could be used immediately after purchasing, in order to give him a return.

After a moment of thought, Sean decided that he was going to go with what he had already tried out. Since he had already seen that could work out, he decided to go to a big hotel, where food was expensive.

That way, even if the amount of food was not high, the quality of the food was extremely better, and the cost was obviously not going to be low.

Thinking about it, Sean immediately left the street where his family grocery store was located, heading straight to the main road nearby. When he got there, he flagged down a taxi, informing the taxi driver to take him to the closest three star hotel.

The driver was slightly puzzled, wondering what this kid wanted to go and do at such a high end hotel. Just by looking at the clothes that he was wearing, it was pretty clear that he was not from some rich background.

Regardless, considering that this was not something that he needed to concern himself about, he did not say anything, just doing what he was required.

It took them about 40 minutes to be able to arrive to their destination. The city itself was not that big, and the location of the best hotel in the city was located in the city center.

As he alighted from the taxi, Sean looked around. He had only come to the center of the city a few times, and each and every time that he came was because he was applying for different positions in different companies.

There was a complete difference between this place and where he lived. It was a difference between a rich residential area and slums.

Sean paid the taxi fare, and the taxi driver drove away, while Sean was left standing there, a little surprised. Just after he had completed the payment, he received a prompt from the system.

[You have spent $9 on food. Investment detected. Rebate activated. You have received $90. Additional reward, basic driving skills.]

Immediately after he received this prompt, a wave of information suddenly appeared in his mind. This caused him a slight headache, making him flinch.

Regardless, Sean was excited. It seemed that taking a taxi was considered as an investment. After all, by using the taxi, he had saved quite a considerable amount of time in order to get here.

As for the information that he had received, he found himself capable of driving different types of vehicles. It felt as if he had been driving for at least 2 years, giving him quite some experience. Additionally, it was not just 2 year of driving, but it was as if he had been driving continuously for 2 years without stopping.

Sean took a deep breath, looking at the message that he had received from the bank, informing that $90 had been deposited into his account, allowing him to have a balance of $354.

Without hesitation, Sean stepped forward, entering the building that belonged to the biggest hotel in the city, Sunnylane hotel.
