Chapter 1 - A New Horizon

The City of Mondstadt.

Otherwise known as the City of Freedom, both its citizens and the entire nation itself revere the Anemo Archon. Following their god's philosophy in life, the citizens of Mondstadt strive to live in a free, safe, and welcoming nation.

At the current time, behind these tall city walls, a certain young man could be seen dashing around while occasionally stopping in place. From the looks of things, he seemed to be hanging up a number of posters on the walls of various buildings and more.

The male looked to be no older than eighteen at most, with a lean physique, a fair complexion, and a head of spiked dark brown hair that was swept to the right. As for his eyes, they were a pair of vibrant silver eyes.

Compared to the other citizens around him, this male stood out due to the nature of his clothes, which naturally stood out amongst the crowd. Consisting of a white t-shirt underneath an unzipped black and grey hooded jacket, along with a pair of sleek long dark-blue pants and white running shoes.

"This is so troublesome..." The young man couldn't help but mutter to himself as he finished securing another poster onto the brick wall in front of him. Wiping a small sweat from his head, he couldn't help but sigh. "I can't stay still!"

Shaking his head, and after getting his breathing under control, the young man continued his, for lack of better word, marathon as he dashed through the streets. Looking closer, you could see that he seemed to be avoiding interacting with anyone in the slightest.

This young man was none other than Silvester Hendrix, or more commonly referred to by his friends as Silver.

It hadn't been long since he arrived in the city after his rather unfortunate demise, and being someone who had read quite a bit in the past, it hadn't taken him too long to make a rather bold assumption regarding his current situation.

Not to mention that he recognized the very city that he had been transported, and that city was one that existed only in fiction. The City of Mondstadt, the beginning city where the protagonist of the game Genshin Impact arrived.

Silver himself hadn't actually played all that much, not because he wasn't a gamer, but because he simply was too busy with other matters. His knowledge beyond Liyue and such were mainly due to social media, at the very least, he had some idea behind the plots of Inazuma and Fontaine.

Anything beyond that and in between, no fucking hope.

In any case, you may be wondering just what in the world he was doing running around the city like a wild animal. The answer you're looking for will be revealed very soon, so be good and have some patience, you little shits.

"Okay, this should be the final one..." Silver muttered as he unrolled the remaining poster in his arms. After pressing it against the wall, it stayed put with some kind of magical adhesive. "That's poster number fifteen, please tell me it's done... thank, god!"

.

[MISSION] (Ready To Claim)

➣ Mission Name: We All Start Somewhere

➣ Type: Main

➣ Primary Objective: Hang up a total of 15 posters around the City of Mondstadt (15/15)

➣ Reward(s): [New Card Set] [Teyvat Starter Pack] [20 Shop EXP]

.

This was the reason that Silver had been running around, to complete the mission that had been assigned to him by the system he was given upon entering this world. Although he was in a hurry, he hadn't just placed the posters haphazardly.

He did consider the fact that the posters at least needed to be in good positions, or at the very least, spread out in various sections of the city where different groups of people could potentially cast their eyes on it.

Anyway, after receiving this notification in the form of a holographic screen, Silver first quickly ran over to a rather secluded area and into an empty well-concealed area between two buildings.

"Alright, let's see..."

Looking at the notification screen, Silver did not hesitate to tap his finger onto the 'Ready To Claim' option at the top to claim the reward and truly complete the mission. After doing so, a string of text soon appeared accompanied by a dinging sound.

[New Card Set Unlocked: Fairy Tail]

.

[ACHIEVEMENT] (Ready To Claim)

➣ Requirement: Unlock the Fairy Tail card set

➣ Reward(s): [Fairy Tail Card Pack (x3)]

.

"Fairy Tail?" Silver, after taking a seat on the ground that was heated by the sunlight that snuck in between the buildings, rose an eyebrow after reading this. 'How long has it been since I even watched that show?'

Although he never had the time to finish the series, he at least understood the general background of the anime. Basically, it was an anime about magic and friendship, that was honestly all you needed to know.

He both liked and disliked the show, at least from what he's seen of it.

With a swipe of his hand, Silver closed down the notifications before opening up a new screen of information. Compared to the others, this one seemed to look similar to a menu screen in video games.

.

[CARD SHOP SYSTEM]

➣ Character

➣ Shop Details

➣ Mission

➣ Inventory (2/20)

➣ Achievements (Completed: 1)

.

The system he had been given was both simple yet complicated, the latter being those who didn't understand the general use, but after learning what it could do... it would become very simple to understand. Anyway, that's for later.

Silver tapped his finger onto the option labeled 'Inventory'.

.

[INVENTORY]

➣ Teyvat Starter Pack - [Description: A package containing items that will help you start your new life here in the world of Teyvat] [Amount: 1]

➣ Fairy Tail Card Pack - [Description: A pack of cards containing items/powers and more from the world of Fairy Tail] [Amount: 3]

.

"Small and summarized descriptions with no unnecessary detail, just how I like it." Silver couldn't help but mutter in appreciation before hovering his hand over the first option. "As tempted as I am to open up cards, I need a serious fix for my current situation..."

What was he hoping out this starter pack?

Well, the ability to actually talk to people!

To be more specific, the whole reason he had been avoiding people was to not get into any conversation he couldn't participate in. He couldn't understand or read anything of the language this world used, he couldn't even read the posters he was putting up!

Before any kind of card shop business could get underway, he needed to solve the language barrier problem above all else! Considering the name of this package, he was seriously hoping for some help in that regard.

[Consumed: Teyvat Starter Pack]

[...]

[Obtained: 100,000 Mora]

[Obtained: Skill Book - Teyvatian Language]

"...Is that it?" Silver blinked when he saw the rather underwhelming amount of things obtained out of the package. He was honestly expecting more, at least a vision or something. 'Whatever, at least there's this book!'

Wasting no time, Silver went into his Inventory before summoning forth the new item, the mora was also there as well, but the book was more important right now. After taking it out of the Inventory, Silver looked down at the item that appeared on his lap.

The book wasn't too big or small, and the cover was a fancy white and gold aesthetic. The words 'Teyvatian Language' were also printed in gold on the front of the cover. Without hesitation, Silver opened the book.

[Consumed: Skill Book - Teyvatian Language]

[New Skill: Teyvatian Language]

Without saying anything, Silver first opened up his menu before navigating to the Character screen. Even after learning the skill, Silver honestly didn't feel any kind of change, so at least wanted to see what the skill fully entailed first before going out.

The Character screen wasn't anything special, almost void of anything really, it seemed to entirely serve the purpose of keeping track of his current and future skills that he may learn. Other than that, not really anything else.

.

[CHARACTER]

➣ Name: Silvester Hendrix

➣ Skills: [Teyvatian Language (Lvl 0)]

.

"Level zero..." Silver felt his eye twitch when he saw the extra bit of information next to the skill name. Shaking his head, Silver gave a small sigh. "Alright, keep calm... since it has a level, I must be able to increase it. The question is how."

Tapping onto the skill, Silver deadpanned when he read the info given.

.

[Teyvatian Language]

➣ Skill Level: 0

➣ Description: An illiterate fool unable to read, write, let alone speak the language of Teyvat. It's time to pick up a book and learn!

.

"Although I've been insulted, there's nothing I can do." Silver clicked his tongue after reading the description. He knew that complaining about such a small thing was childish, not to mention he had more important things to care about. "On the other hand, it does give me a hint. I just need to read then, huh?"

Standing up, Silver walked over to the front of the alleyway before peeking out into the streets. Looking around, Silver could see a few signs with text, and even one of the posters that he had placed not too long ago.

At present, he couldn't make out any of the words, but the longer he tried to read them he couldn't help but notice that they seemed to start blurring and shifting around. It was strange, but he continued staring for over a minute until...

[Skill: Teyvatian Language - Level 0 → Level 1]

"Woah..."

After this notification popped up, although much of the text on the things he was trying to read were still unreadable, a few characters gradually became known to him. Characters he had never seen before, but could somehow understand thanks to the skill.

'Okay, this is progress, ladies and gentlemen!' Silver smiled as he thought this to himself. 'A whole minute of trying to read like an idiot for only the first level, how long do I need to do this to become proficient? Perhaps...'

Walking back into the alleyway, Silver went back into the Inventory before materializing out three packs of cards into his hand. The pack was designed with various main characters from the Fairy Tail anime, along with the logo at the bottom.

'What are the chances I get some kind of magic to help me learn? Or maybe even a magic tailored towards understanding foreign languages?' Staring at the packs, Silver couldn't help but have some hope. 'Even then, do I need their source of magic energy to use it? Ethernano, I think? I guess I'll find out!'

Pocketing two of the packs, Silver quickly but carefully opened up the pack of cards that he kept in hand. After opening it, Silver was greeted by the sight of the first card. Aside from the large image, there was also a name and even a grade rating.

His pulls were as follows:

➣ 200 Jewels (Common)

➣ 600 Jewels (Common)

➣ Lucy Swimsuit Photo (Uncommon)

"Only three cards? Well, looks like jewels are one of the most common cards possible in this set." Silver spoke indifferently before seeing the last card, to which he felt his face twitch as he stared at it. "...Are you serious? Maybe I'll just sell it to some pervert on the street for some mora, or I'll keep it... nah, I'm gonna sell it."

Jewels were very much useless here in this world, the form of currency was not at all used... obviously. As for the photo, he did admit that she was very attractive and did make him feel some kind of way, but he refused to have it on his person or in his possession!

True, he could keep it in his Inventory, that way no one could possibly find it. However, his Inventory was incredibly limited in size, and he had no idea if he could increase it! He didn't want to leave it around either, who knew if at some point in the future someone finds it.

How would he explain?!

He absolutely refused to be labeled a degenerate!

"I just need to rip the card, right?" Silver frowned at the very idea of doing this. He may not have ever been the biggest card collector, but he at least knew that it was frowned upon to disrespect cards in such a way. "Well, here we go."

With a quick motion, Silver ripped one of the cards in half.

Blinking in surprise, the two halves disappeared into particles before a new object suddenly materialized into his hands. Unconsciously, Silver raised his hand to take a closer look, and when he did, he couldn't help but spit in surprise.

The card that he had ripped was the one containing the rather erotic photo of Lucy in a swimsuit, and since the object itself was much bigger compared to an image of the photo, he had a much clearer view of everything she had to offer!

With a blush on his cheeks, Silver quickly put away the photo as well as the cards containing the jewels into his Inventory. He didn't even care that they took up three whole spaces of his Inventory right now, he could always empty it later.

"I freaking can't..." Silver took a deep breath to calm himself down as the blush on his face gradually faded away. To help move on, Silver took out another pack from his pocket before opening it. "Come on, something better please..."

➣ 300 Jewels (Common)

➣ 100 Jewels (Common)

➣ 500 Jewels (Common)

"For fuck's sake... next pack!"

➣ 700 Jewels (Common)

➣ 200 Jewels (Common)

➣ Gale-Force Reading Glasses: Tier 3 (Rare)

"Gale-Force...?" Silver blinked at the new but very welcomed appearance of the rare graded card. Quickly searching through his memories, Silver tilted his head slightly. "Isn't that the pair of glasses that allow for faster reading? Wait, this could be good...!"

Quickly ripping the card in half, a pair of blue framed glasses with wing-liked designs on the sides of each lens. Instead of putting them on, Silver placed them along with everything else into his Inventory, this way he could check the description.

.

➣ Gale-Force Reading Glasses: Tier 3 - [Description: A magic item that when worn allows the wearer to read at 32x the normal speed] [Amount: 1]

.

After reading the description, Silver couldn't help but smile as he quickly walked back over to the front of the alleyway. Placing the glasses onto his face, he then proceeded to try and read the still unreadable text from before.

As he read, a white magic circle appeared a few inches from his face as a river of glowing particles flowered towards his eyes from the item being read. Fortunately, the signboard he was reading wasn't too far away, otherwise this sight would definitely catch attention much easier.

Fortunately, this particular street didn't seem to be too active, so thankfully nobody noticed him yet.

[Skill: Teyvatian Language - Level 1 → Level 2]

[Skill: Teyvatian Language - Level 2 → Level 3]

After reading from whatever source he could from his current position, his Teyvatian Language skill had risen from level one to level three in one fell swoop. Taking off the glasses, Silver smiled in satisfaction.

"Holy crap, this was one hell of a last card pull." Silver whispered in excitement after finally seeing that he could read the text clearly, at least the text around him right now. Since the level didn't max out from the looks of it, that meant it could still improve. "Maybe there's a library around here..."

Running around using the glasses would no doubt gain way too much attention, a more private space like a library where tons of books and no doubt filled with unfamiliar characters was an absolute cheat for him right now to learning the language.

"Now where would a library be in this city?" Silver asked himself rhetorically as he looked around the street within the alleyway. "Should I try asking someone? I'd be looking aimlessly otherwise..."

Opening up his Character menu, Silver then tapped onto the skill.

.

[Teyvatian Language]

➣ Skill Level: 3

➣ Description: You are able to understand a few Teyvatian characters , speaking is still proving to be quite the obstacle

.

"Guess not..." Silver frowned after reading this. 'Guess I'll have to try and improve it further before I even try to ask someone. I'll have to see if I can find anything to read without attracting attention to myself, then I'll ask for directions.'

With his plan fully decided, Silver looked around once more before quickly leaving the alleyway and down the street.
