Chapter 18 - 18

Julie saw that everything was done,

so she told everyone to leave: "It's getting late. Everyone, go back and rest. I won't keep you."

The village head already wanted to leave, so he led the way out.

Julie looked around at the crowd.

Who had spoken badly just now?

No one saw who did it, but suddenly they heard Chen Erxia cry out. Her leg gave out, and she knelt on one knee, shouting in pain, "Oh my leg, my leg hurts so much."

It felt like something stabbed into her leg.

Chen Erxia got more and more scared. She thought maybe this place had something unlucky.

She quickly asked her husband to help her leave. She was sweating from the pain.

After Chen Erxia left, the village head also left.

Then everyone else quickly left too.

Julie stayed quiet and didn't show off.

She pulled up her sleeves and parked the carriage inside the yard,

then started moving the stuff inside.

When she saw the three brothers coming to help,

she let them carry the light things and kept the heavy things for herself.

She saw Lorrie trying to carry all the pots and bowls at once.

She quickly grabbed them from him and stuffed a box of pastries into his hands instead.

When Lorrie looked like he was about to complain loudly,

she quickly opened the pastry box, picked a green bean cake, and stuffed it into his mouth.

Lorrie's eyes went wide, and he started chewing naturally.

At first, he looked really happy while eating,

but after he finished, his face showed a little sadness.

Julie thought it was strange.

How could he show so many emotions just from eating one pastry?

Was he tasting the whole meaning of life from it?

She didn't know that for Lorrie, this was the best pastry he ever ate.

When he was little, his family was very poor. They were happy just to have enough to eat,

there was no money to buy pastries.

He knew even a small piece of pastry like this was very expensive.

Just now, with one big bite, he ate four or five coins' worth.

It felt like such a waste.

If he knew earlier, he would have eaten it slowly, one tiny bite at a time.

Julie didn't have time to care about his little feelings.

She still had lots to do.

Julie was strong.

She could carry one or two hundred pounds of food at once.

After a few trips, she moved everything inside.

She told them to organize the things they bought.

Then she got a ladder from the storage room.

She added a thick layer of straw to the thatched roof,

and used wood boards and bamboo vines to strengthen the roof beams.

Only after finishing did she climb down the ladder.

When she came down,

she saw the three brothers had already changed her bedsheets to the newly bought coarse cloth ones.

Julie lowered her head, and her eyes shined a little.

They were actually quite thoughtful.

Since she had nothing else urgent,

she found something else to do.

She made little pens for the wild rabbits and chickens,

using wood boards, branches, and bamboo vines.

She poured some black grain feed for the chickens,

and fed the rabbits some grass.

She tied the horse she bought inside the yard,

gave it some hay, and petted its head.

The horse didn't resist.

It even rubbed its head against Julie's hand.

Lorrie excitedly asked,

"Wife Master, the horse doesn't have a name yet, right? Should we give it a strong and cool name?"

The horse seemed to understand and made a "neigh" sound.

Julie hadn't thought about naming it yet.

After thinking for a moment, she said,

"Let's call it Little Black."

A black horse not called Little Black, should it be called Little White?

Lorrie rolled his eyes but didn't say anything.

Haven and Bailee went to the kitchen to make dinner.

It was already late, and they knew their Wife Master must be hungry.

Julie was indeed a little hungry,

but she could still hold on.

She suddenly remembered the hairpins she bought for them.

So she took out the hairpins from her sleeve and handed them over.

Seeing them just holding the hairpins and not saying anything,

Julie thought maybe they didn't like the simple design.

She quickly added,

"Today we were rushing for time. Next time I'll take you to the gold and jade shops to buy the ones you like. For now, just make do with these."

Today they were busy,

and didn't have time to go to the clothes shop either.

Next time, they would buy hairpins and clothes together.

When Bailee lowered his head,

he wiped his eyes with his sleeve and said,

"Wife Master, I'll go to the kitchen to check the food."

Lorrie looked at the hairpin, said nothing, and quietly went back to his room.

Only Haven smiled and said,

"Wife Master, thank you. I really like it."

"You are really good now."
