Chapter 16 - Chapter 15 — The Deadly Crossing

Milan — Just before dawn

The boy slammed the door behind them and motioned urgently.

"This way!" he whispered, almost begging.

They moved through cramped hallways, squeezing between stacks of old crates and abandoned equipment. The air stank of dampness and rust.

At the back of the warehouse, a second exit appeared: a rusted iron door, half-open, leading to a forgotten service corridor.

"If you follow this path," the boy said, "you'll get closer to the station without being seen."

Luca squeezed the boy's shoulder in thanks. Vera managed a brief smile — the first in hours.

They slipped out into the night.

The corridor was narrow, claustrophobic. Broken lights dangled from the ceiling like rotten teeth. The sounds of pursuit had faded — but fear walked beside them, unseen.

At every turn, every shadow, Luca expected an ambush.

Time was the enemy.

Exhaustion too.

Moretti was waiting — or so they prayed. If they were wrong, everything would be lost.

They reached the end of the corridor — and found a metal gate.

Locked.

Chained.

"Damn it!" Vera hissed.

Luca scanned the walls, searching for another exit.

That's when he heard it: heavy footsteps echoing behind them.

"We're out of time!" Vera said.

Luca pulled the dossier from inside his coat. He wrapped it in a waterproof cloth and pressed it into Vera's hands.

"If I hold them off, you run. Get it to Moretti. You have to make it."

"Don't you dare!" Vera's voice trembled with anger and fear.

"No choice," Luca said.

The footsteps grew louder.

The moment of the deadly crossing had arrived.

And not everyone would reach the finish line.

If you believe Luca and Vera can still break through the trap, drop a Power Stone — every heartbeat matters in their fight for justice!
