Chapter 108 - The Ghost and the Blade

Mysterious Figure: Name: Veyne

Appearance:

Tall, wiry, with a survivor's build — all sinew and scars.

Tattered black Echo cloak draped over old battle armor, half-melted from past wars.

Eyes: One normal, one glowing faint orange — cybernetic and twitching.

Face: Rough, weathered, short silver hair, deep cut across his cheek.

Weapon: A heavy plasma glaive (staff with a brutal energy blade) strapped across his back.

Aura: Heavy, intimidating. Like a man who's already died once and didn't like it.

---

Background:

> Once a powerful Echo unit commander during the final Collapse wars, Veyne was left behind after Echo disbanded, presumed dead.

Instead, he survived — deep underground — forging alliances with outlaw scientists, rogue tech-cults, and former soldiers.

Now, Veyne follows his own law: protect the ruins from scavengers... but he has a secret mission burning inside him: Find the Core and destroy it before it triggers something catastrophic.

Problem:

When he sees Kaela and the others carrying the Core...

He assumes they're enemies.

---

Alright!

Now, let's slide into Chapter 6:

---

The tunnels twisted and moaned around them as Kaela, Arin, and Riven stumbled toward the flickering blue-green flare.

Every step burned.

Their bodies screamed for rest.

The Core pulsed hotter against Kaela's back — almost like it was nervous.

Then... a shadow broke from the mist.

A tall figure in a shredded Echo cloak stepped into view, his plasma glaive crackling with slow menace.

The three of them skidded to a halt.

"You're carrying it," the figure rasped, voice rough as grinding steel.

"Drop the Core. Now."

Kaela tightened her grip.

Riven raised his battered rifle halfway, uncertain.

"Who are you?" Arin snapped.

The figure's cybernetic eye flared brighter.

"No one you want to fight."

---

Tension boiled.

The ruins behind them shuddered as Hollowborn howled deeper in the tunnels.

They had no time for this.

Kaela stepped forward, hands raised slightly.

"We're not your enemy," she said. "We're just—"

"Lies," the figure hissed.

Veyne moved so fast they barely saw it.

His plasma glaive ripped through the air, slamming the ground between Kaela and Riven, sending sparks flying.

"I saw Echo fall," Veyne growled. "I watched the world burn because of relics like that. I won't let you repeat it."

Battle Start — Veyne vs the Three

---

Kaela dodged the next swing by a hair's breadth.

Arin fired — the plasma bolt bounced off Veyne's battered armor.

"He's fast!" Riven shouted, ducking a lethal slash.

The undercity walls flashed with light and shadow as they fought:

Kaela tried to distract him, using swift movements and dodges.

Arin tried precision shots, looking for a weak spot.

Riven charged with pure brute force, trying to overwhelm him.

But Veyne was a wall of violence and precision.

Every move was surgical.

Every strike designed to maim, not kill.

He was testing them.

---

Critical Moment

---

Kaela leapt, trying to drive her blade into his exposed side —

— but Veyne caught her mid-air, slamming her into the wall.

Pain exploded through her ribs.

She gasped, struggling to stand.

"You're strong," Veyne said quietly, looming over her.

"But not ready."

He raised his glaive for the final blow.

Suddenly—

The Core flared.

An ancient symbol burned onto the ground around them — a broken star twisting in midair.

Veyne recoiled, snarling.

He looked at Kaela again — this time, not with hatred, but fear.

"What have you done?" he whispered.

Before Kaela could answer, the tunnels shook violently.

The Hollowborn howls turned into a deafening scream.

Something huge was coming.

Veyne cursed under his breath, backing away.

"You're going to get us all killed," he spat.

But he didn't attack again.

Not yet.
