Chapter 2 - Comet-B98E4

"This will be the first time a comet is passing so close to Earth. What are the chances of this comet hitting us? Let's ask the known space researcher, Mr. Wilkin," said the host.

"The chances of a comet hitting Earth are very rare because if something gets very close to Earth, it also gets very close to Jupiter, and as a result, something that is so very close to attack Earth is most likely gobbled by Jupiter," quoted the scientist.

"Now let's see the pictures of the comet concerned, which were captured by our telescopes."

The TV showed a picture of a big round shining body, bluish in color. This was the comet called B98E4.

This comet was thought to be on its first trip through our solar system.

After a few minutes, the host came back into the frame.

"Now let's talk about the weather, shall we? What do you think, Mr. Robert? Are we going to get some rain today?" the host enquired.

Mark finished making some omelets and soup and went to fetch his grandpa.

They both shared a nice dinner, after which he escorted his grandpa back to his room and massaged his legs until he fell asleep. Then he came back to his room.

He opened his computer and started practicing program design. After practicing for a few hours, he got up and went to sleep.

"Today was such a nice day. It feels so good to catch up with friends," he said to himself before falling asleep.

The next day, he got up early, did some exercises, and prepared breakfast. He escorted his grandpa out in the sun and then came back to his room to study some virus software.

At noon, he prepared lunch for his grandpa, and while having lunch, he told him that he would be off with Billy and they would go outside. So, he would prepare some food for him in the evening before he left.

"Who is Billy?" said his grandpa in a weak and confused tone.

"Oh, Bill Perkins. My childhood friend. That red-haired kid whom I used to play all day with," explained Mark.

"Ah yes, I remember now. Ok, enjoy your day."

After lunch, he escorted his grandpa into his room, where his grandpa took his daily afternoon nap.

He went to roam out in the fields, where his grandpa's hired men were working. He spent a few hours there and then returned when it was 5:00 PM.

He prepared dinner and put it into the refrigerator. He left a note on the table saying where he was going and where he had kept the food in case his grandpa forgot again.

He told his grandpa as well before leaving. He and Bill met up at a cafe called Food Mayor. Where they caught up with each other's lives.

"So, who is the lucky lady?" asked Bill in a teasing tone.

"Jane is someone whom I met during college. She is beautiful, a caring and gentle person who is really honest. She is a really pure soul."

"Aww, look at our lovebird... I am getting diabetes just by hearing about it," said Bill, teasing him.

"Yeah, yeah. Hope the chef adds super extra sugar to your coffee then... we will have a place cleaned on Earth."

They both looked at each other and burst into sniggering again. After the cafe, they visited some parks and museums, where they caught up with some other friends of theirs who were working there. After that, they ate at a restaurant called the Foodie Bar. And then they said their goodbyes to each other.

He came back home at 11:00 PM. His grandpa had gotten off to sleep. He went to study, but he couldn't concentrate, so he came outside and sat in front of his garage and started reading some novels on his smartphone. Then a notification came.

"The comet B98E4 is passing beautifully overhead. Look up to see it."

Mark looked up. A clear streak of blue filled the starry sky ahead of him. The comet swiftly came by and passed normally over his head too.

"Wow! Such beautiful scenery," said Mark as he lifted his phone up to capture the beautiful streaks of blue that were illuminating the sky. As he was clicking pictures, something came into the frame.

It was a dot at first, but soon the dot became a speck, then a blob, then it looked like a boulder. As soon as he realized what was happening, Mark got up and hurried away.

"BOOM!!!" The sound of cracking ground filled the air, as a column of dirt erupted from the ground due to the impact.
