Chapter 28 - The Battle at the Camp: No Way Back

That was the only road leading into the mountains. From Dell's direction, it was clear that a convoy of cars was approaching, and it seemed their destination was here.

Sensing something wrong, Dell immediately contacted the others via intercom.

Jason and the others, who received the alert, rushed back quickly. When they returned, the convoy had stopped at a distance, as if they had noticed something unusual.

"These people aren't from a good background," Jason said.

He picked up the binoculars and observed the vehicles. Upon spotting a logo on one of them, his face suddenly darkened. "It's them."

"Who are they?" Shane asked, puzzled.

"Remember the guy I killed yesterday? He had a tattoo. The logo on their car matches that tattoo. They must be from the same organization."

When Jason finished speaking, everyone took a deep breath — the enemy had come right to their doorstep.

"Since they have bad intentions, we don't need to show mercy," Shane said coldly.

Everyone knew Shane's temper. He hated being bullied, especially when it was the enemy who struck first. Fighting back was only natural.

"Everyone hide for now. Rick, get the weapons ready. I don't think they'll leave peacefully," Jason ordered.

Since the enemy had tracked them here, it was obvious they wouldn't back down easily — not after one of their own had been killed.

The camp had the advantage of being near a forest, providing cover, while the opposite side was just open, flat land with no obstacles.

The reason Abel and his group were able to find Jason's camp so accurately was simple — they had followed the fresh tire tracks. Jason's group had been the only ones traveling that road recently.

"So you were hiding here. It wasn't hard to find you at all," Abel sneered.

From a distance, the police car was visible, confirming that the people he sought were indeed here.

"Brothers, grab your weapons and kill everyone! Leave the women alive!" Abel roared.

The so-called "Paradise Organization" was nothing more than a gang of bandits. Ever since the zombie outbreak, they had been committing atrocities — robbing, killing, and abusing women. They were the scum of humanity.

More than a dozen of them stood there, armed with an assortment of stolen guns — though their weapons were diverse, their discipline was lacking.

They were nothing but small fry who thought they could do whatever they pleased simply because they outnumbered others.

The grass in the area was half a person's height, but it couldn't block bullets.

"He really came," Jason said, narrowing his eyes at the approaching enemies. He couldn't help but laugh. These people were overconfident — but they had no idea who they were dealing with.

"As long as they fire first, we'll fight back. That counts as self-defense, right?" Jason said with a smirk, glancing at the two sheriffs.

Rick and Shane exchanged a look, then grinned and said in unison, "Completely within the law of self-defense."

"Hahaha..." Jason and the others laughed, showing no fear at all.

A few minutes later, the enemy cautiously advanced another hundred meters. Though they moved carefully, they were completely exposed — easy targets for Jason's group.

Abel, thinking they were close enough for a surprise attack, raised his gun and fired.

Bang!

The shot whistled past Moore's feet, missing him by inches and scaring him into a jump.

"Dammit, you dare shoot at me?!" Moore shouted. Furious, he immediately opened fire with his automatic rifle.

Jason smirked and joined in the fight, raising his weapon.

"Make sure they don't leave alive!"
