Chapter 1 - Join Our Circus

Along the straight, narrow street, a group of citizens formed some sort of circle around a gate. The gate looked fancy, with spiraled tips, and colored gold. A white plate bolted on the center of the giant doors read: Dirty Dancer Circus. All the letters are cursive, the i's dotted with hearts. A pink, circus themed, application letter was taped to the gate doors. The letter read:

Please apply to the Dirty Dancer Circus! We are hiring janitor's, dancers, and costume designers! Please take a sheet from the podium if you wish to apply!

Sincerely, Circus Master Dorthie

A young lady stood in front of the podium. She took off one sheet and stuffed it inside her green bag. The girl just lost her job and rent was due in two weeks. The lady's name was Reece Loves, an art and fashion major at Brooklyn Community College. Reece needed more money for food expanses, parking fees, and several others. Her rent for the one bedroom apartment was expensive for a college student, and her manager fired her for being late. Reece would gladly take whatever job available for her. On her way home, a tall man with brown hair bumped into her, spilling whatever blue colored drink he held in his hand. He snapped at her, "Watch where your going!" His angry eyes, and grey stumble told her the man is middle aged.

"I'm sorry sir-" Reece apologized, but the man would not listen. He shouted curses at her and shoved Reece into a street light. Her bag slipped from her shoulder, and the man spat at her feet and walked away, grumbling.

Reece unlocked the door to apartment three hundred one, on the sixteenth floor. The one bedroom apartment looked messy. Bills stacked neatly on the coffee table. Reece threw her bag down and collapsed on the couch. She had no way to find any income, her parents refused to help her, and she just lost her only stable income.

"What now?" Reece flopped on her stomach, glaring at the bag she thrifted three weeks ago like it was the reason she was broke. She glanced at the clock on the stand. 8:57, Reece had a presentation tomorrow. The college student decided to get ready for bed and worry about losing her home tomorrow.

"I think I have tuna and rice left over. I could heat it up and eat," Reece tripped over her bag, and the contents spilled out. Her phone, empty wallet, Fashion Facts book, and the Circus application fell to the floor. Reece scrabbled to her phone, praying it was not broken. "My phone seems fine.. What's that?" The girl picked up the Circus application. Reece scrawled her name, birth date, age, phone number, and signed the contract.

"I need this job." She said to herself.
