Chapter 136 - 7

The forest floor, illuminated only by what radiance of the half-moon filters through the branches, is like a black spiderweb with intermittent patches of pale blue light, perfect for disappearing. The dreadful war form of the Garou is an instrument of war, but it doesn't have to be an incarnation of mindless carnage. You fight smart, ducking a scything hoof and then leaping over a patch of dirty snow, then leap between two ancient maples, landing silently on clawed and padded feet in the darkness.

It's completely black here, forcing you to rely on smell. But that horse-thing has a nose, too, so you creep carefully backward over the hard-packed snow, not making a sound as you maneuver upwind. But the monster knows you haven't fled. It ranges back and forth, snarling through bloody lips, stamping its sharp hooves.

It'll find you soon. Knowing you have to act fast, you rush in, clearing the distance in three massive bounds. The horse-thing hears you and starts to turn, but it's big, and you're able to slam into its flank at a dead run, knocking it back against a huge trunk and raking your claws down its side.

But the monster is bigger than you, even in your monstrous Crinos form. It twists away from your raking claws, then leaps up like an attack dog and sinks its fangs into your neck. You roar and shove it away, and for a moment, it's pinned in the air, rearing up on two legs as it tries to regain its balance.

You drop low and sweep both claws horizontally across its stomach, then leap back, blood spilling from the wound in your neck. The horse-thing lands, takes a step toward you…then its stomach empties out through the hole you ripped. Smoking hot gore and entrails pour onto the icy snow. It slips in its own guts, then collapses. You wait until you're sure it's dead, clutching your wounded neck.
