Chapter 122 - 3

Sonoma's war camp was bustling with more wolves than you'd ever seen in one place. Not only were the surviving Haven wolves stationed in cabins by the edge of the camp beside Sonoma's own pack, but you'd accumulated well over a hundred refugee prisoners, none of whom had lived freely for years. Some of them had been institutionalized and were having trouble adapting to the world aboveground. Of course, that wasn't your biggest concern.

You watched a small cabin, Dena by your side. Within the shack, Ahote and Sonoma were interrogating a captured sniper, Tayla, looking for any information they could discover about the rival human forces. You'd already learned that the captive was from a group called the HSM, or Human Sovereignty Movement, and she would only speak to the son of Colonel Williams. Some wolves, including Ahote, were aware of your parentage and hoped that it would afford them some advantage with the fanatical anti-werewolf zealots.

It was disturbing how the prisoner looked up to you as something of a holy person when you entered the building. Tayla's reverence for Williams was even more disconcerting, but it made her far easier to interrogate than you'd anticipated. In the end, she'd dropped a bombshell: according to her, all HSM mercenaries were equipped with tracking chips, and taking her captive had let the fanatics know the exact location of Sonoma's camp.

I decided to allow the prisoner to live. We couldn't be the cold-blooded killers that she thought us to be.

I allowed Sonoma to kill Tayla once the interrogation was complete.

I killed Tayla. No mercy for werewolf-murdering humans.
