Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Last Stubbornness of the Young Woman

It was past midnight, and the young woman, Bai Jie, draped in a thin red nightgown, leaned on the sofa with one hand, her graceful figure fully displayed.

If it were before the Apocalypse, she would have been asleep by this time.

But tonight, she found it particularly hard to sleep.

It wasn't that she couldn't sleep, but that she hadn't had a proper meal in days.

The gnawing hunger churned in her stomach like bitter seawater, showing no signs of stopping.

This intense hunger tormented her, making it nearly impossible to fall asleep.

If it weren't for the two pieces of bread the man across the street had given her two days ago, she might not have made it through yesterday.

In fact, she had been waiting for news of her husband, Wang Shen, these past few days.

But ever since he went out to play cards the night before last, he hadn't returned.

She had been at home that day because she happened to be off work, which allowed her to escape the disaster.

By now, she had a premonition that her good-for-nothing husband had likely met with misfortune.

She wasn't being heartless in saying this; it was just that there was no real affection between them!

She and Wang Shen had married when she was 27, introduced by someone in the village.

At the time, her mother had been in an accident and needed a large sum of money for medical expenses. With no other choice, she had hastily married Wang Shen.

But it wasn't until after they were married that she discovered the so-called "handsome young man" the villagers spoke of didn't even have a proper job in the city!

He spent his days idling around, making a living by gambling, and was full of unrealistic ideas, always dreaming of striking it rich overnight.

So, they both relied on her meager teacher's salary to get by.

Even the two houses they owned were bought through her own hard work, saving every penny and earning awards for her performance.

Otherwise, they wouldn't even have a place to live.

But this wasn't the reason she felt nothing for Wang Shen.

The main reason was that they had never been intimate!

They say the vagina is the gateway to a woman's heart.

But for all these years, they had always slept in separate beds.

Even on their wedding night, they hadn't shared the same bed!

Because Wang Shen was impotent! He was incomplete!

He was essentially a "limp" man!!!

Under her questioning, she learned that Wang Shen had overindulged in LOL when he was young, leaving him unable to perform.

He simply couldn't do that kind of thing!!!

Let alone have children!

Because of this, she had often been criticized by the villagers.

They called her a jinx, saying that marrying her had brought misfortune to the family!

No one ever considered the pain she carried in her heart.

But out of gratitude for Wang Shen's help, she could never speak of these truths to anyone.

She could only bear it all in silence.

Because she knew deep down that Wang Shen had married her only because he needed a shield.

So, you can imagine, for five whole years, do you know how she lived?

Thinking of this, Bai Jie glanced at her straight and tightly closed legs reflected in the window, a trace of resentment flickering in her eyes.

This was the sorrow of being a woman!

If it were before the Apocalypse, she could have ignored all this, focusing solely on working hard to support the family, taking care of Wang Shen, and repaying his kindness.

Although she had already repaid most of it over the years.

After the Apocalypse, the days of hunger and torment, coupled with the occasional terrifying roars of monsters, had taken their toll.

For so many days, she had hardly slept a wink.

If the physical torment was still bearable, the mental anguish had pushed her to the brink of collapse.

The fear of the unknown and the uncertainty of the future—how could a fragile woman like her endure it all!

After two days of contemplation, driven by her last shred of stubbornness as a woman, she knew she had to start thinking for herself.

Coincidentally, at that very moment, Meng De appeared before her.

His chiseled face, explosive muscles, and strong physique fascinated her, giving her a long-lost sense of security.

Now, in the Apocalypse, if she had to choose someone, perhaps Meng De was her best option.

Just thinking about what he had said that day made her blush.

Tsk!

Who speaks so directly like that!

The thought alone made her cheeks burn.

Just then, there came two soft knocks on the door, instantly putting her on edge.

"Who is it?"

"It's me!"

Oh, it's that man!

Bai Jie finally let out a sigh of relief.

Opening the door, she saw a familiar figure standing there.

It was none other than Meng De, the man she had just been thinking about!

Upon receiving Bai Jie's text, he had sprung up like a fish, his entire body brimming with excitement.

Fortunately, the sisters were sound asleep, and he had made almost no noise as he left.

"You're here," Bai Jie said shyly.

He nodded, then walked in without hesitation, while Bai Jie followed nervously behind.

He sat on the sofa, eyeing the woman before him.

Her delicate features, her shoulder-length hair—it was clear she had just done her makeup.

Though she looked slightly haggard, it did nothing to diminish her beauty.

Her bust was full and round, truly a sight to behold.

Her short red strappy nightgown barely covered her alluring curves.

Below, her long, shapely legs were smooth and fair, with a hint of pink.

Even her delicate little feet were adorned with light pink nail polish.

Under the dim light, she looked incredibly seductive and radiant.

Meng De, though seemingly calm on the surface, was already boiling with excitement inside.

It had been two whole days since he last had any "fun."

Moreover, as soon as he entered, he heard the system's notification.

In just two days, the woman's favorability toward him had skyrocketed from -90 to 30!

A massive leap in favorability!

This meant there was a chance tonight.

However, he forcefully suppressed his excitement and spoke in a calm tone.

"Sister Bai, why did you call me over so late? Aren't you afraid your husband might misunderstand?"

Though he already knew full well why she had called him over at this hour, he couldn't resist making her aware of her position.

He wanted to "test" this proud woman before him.

Sure enough, seeing that Meng De wasn't as thrilled as she had imagined, Bai Jie seemed a bit disappointed.

She had thought the man before her desired her, but now it seemed she had overestimated herself.

For a moment, she was at a loss for words.

"I... I..."

Seeing this, Meng De couldn't help but feel anxious for her and spoke in an impatient tone.

"Sister Bai, just say what you need to say."

"If I can help, I definitely will, right?"

Hearing this, Bai Jie's eyes turned red, and she almost wanted to say forget it, it's nothing. But the hunger gnawing at her body stopped her in her tracks.

She clenched her teeth and closed her eyes.

"I just want to ask you, does what you said the other day still count?"

Meng De smiled, a hint of an inexplicable smile flashing across his lips.
