Chapter 61: Ray vs. Top 200 Ranked Student! New Rival Appears!

The roaring cheers were still shaking the stadium when Ray quietly left the arena.

His black coat fluttered behind him, and the frost mist from his wolves still lingered in the air.

On the big screen, his new temporary rank blinked brightly:

> #300: Ray Blackthorn (Freshman)

A first-year breaking into the top 300?

Unheard of.

---

Behind the Scenes

In the VIP room above the arena, a group of powerful instructors and staff sat around a round table, watching.

An old man with golden eyes chuckled.

"Looks like this year's batch has a monster."

"Not just talent. He's... too mature for his age."

Another instructor spoke seriously:

"We must observe him carefully. If he grows too fast, the big families will notice."

"And the foreign races too," someone added darkly.

The room fell into thoughtful silence.

Ray Blackthorn had entered their radar.

---

Meanwhile, Ray...

Ray walked into the resting area and leaned against a cold marble pillar, resting.

Seventeen's calm voice echoed in his mind:

> "Small fish handled. Now, bigger sharks are coming."

Ray smirked.

"Finally."

He didn't want easy prey anymore.

He wanted challenges that would force him to evolve faster.

---

Academy Ranking Screen Update

Suddenly, a giant golden screen hovered in the sky.

The academy ranking list appeared.

Names. Titles. Points. Ranks.

The top 200 students' names glittered like jewels.

> #1: Lucas Ironshade — F+ Peak — Swordmaster Trainee

#2: Mira Flameborn — F Peak — Fire Elemental

#3: Ken Beastclaw — F Peak — Beast Warrior

Down and down it went.

At around Rank #150...

A red flashing name caught Ray's attention:

> #148: Leon Coldbane — F+ Mid — Ice Knight

(Special Skill: Frost Swordsmanship, Cryo Armor)

And next to Leon's name—

A small symbol blinked: [Challenge Issued!]

---

BOOM!

A loud voice shook the arena:

> "Freshman Ray Blackthorn!

Leon Coldbane challenges you for your spot!!"

Everyone turned in shock.

Another battle?

Already!?

And against a top 150 student!?

---

Leon Coldbane Appears

A tall figure walked down the stone stairs onto the arena.

Silver hair, blue cold eyes, and a full suit of enchanted knight armor made of crystallized ice.

His sword glowed with frost energy, and small snowflakes danced around him.

Leon looked down at Ray with a smirk.

"You got lucky so far, freshman."

"But your little bone tricks won't save you from me."

The crowd roared.

"Leon is famous! His defense is unbreakable!"

"And his Frost Sword can cut even steel!"

Many first-years looked worried for Ray.

---

But Ray...

Just smiled coldly.

He cracked his knuckles and stepped into the arena.

As he walked, black mist began leaking from under his boots, covering the ground inch by inch.

The two faced each other in the center.

The referee raised his hand.

> "On my signal—"

Ray interrupted.

"No need."

He moved first.

---

Instant Battle Start!

Ray slammed his foot down.

[Domain Seed: Black Grave] activated.

The ground instantly turned dark, and black roses made of bone sprouted everywhere.

Leon's eyes narrowed.

He raised his frost shield defensively.

Ray summoned—

> 10 Frost Wolves

4 Shadow Skeleton Knights

2 Bone Golems (new summons!)

The entire arena darkened under the overwhelming undead army.

---

Leon didn't hesitate.

With a roar, he activated his ultimate skill:

[Cryo Armor: Frost Emperor's Blessing!]

A thick layer of shining ice covered his body, doubling his defense.

Frost wings grew from his back, and his sword expanded into a giant ice blade.

The audience gasped.

"That's his strongest form!!"

"He defeated third-years with that form before!"

---

True Fight Begins

Leon charged like a frozen comet, his massive sword smashing down.

CRASH!

Ray calmly side-stepped.

The ground shattered where Leon struck.

Ray countered.

His two Bone Golems smashed down with their heavy fists.

Leon blocked with his shield, but the impact made him slide back, leaving deep tracks on the frozen floor.

Ray snapped his fingers.

Command: Frost Wolves, attack!

All 10 wolves lunged, moving like a blizzard.

Leon was fast and skilled, cutting down 3 wolves immediately, but every strike cost him stamina.

Ray's undead were endless.

For every skeleton destroyed, another rose from the black roses covering the ground.

Leon's frown deepened.

"This... This isn't a battle of power! It's a battle of endurance!"

---

Ray's True Strategy

Ray didn't need to win fast.

He only needed to bleed Leon's strength slowly.

Bit by bit.

Scratch by scratch.

The frost wolves kept biting and freezing Leon's movements.

The Bone Golems kept hammering his shield.

The Shadow Knights attacked from blind spots.

Meanwhile, Ray stood back, waiting patiently.

Seventeen laughed:

> "This is a war of exhaustion, Little King. And undead never get tired."

---

Finally, after 10 minutes of brutal clash—

Leon's movements slowed.

His Cryo Armor cracked.

His breathing turned ragged.

Ray moved.

In a single smooth motion, he summoned [Bone Chains] from the ground, wrapping Leon's legs.

Leon tried to cut them, but the Bone Golems tackled him.

Pinned!

Ray walked slowly toward the struggling Leon, his black mist swirling like a storm.

He whispered coldly:

"Checkmate."

And stabbed down with a spear of bone.

BOOM!

---

The arena went silent again.

When the dust cleared—

Leon lay unconscious, defeated under the undead army.

The referee shouted:

"Winner — Ray Blackthorn!!!"

---

Rewards

> [Victory: +500 Academy Points]

[Individual Ranking: Updated — Temporary Rank: #148]

> [Special Reward Unlocked!]

[Skill Book: Bone Fortress (C-Grade Passive)]

(Undead near you gain +10% Defense and +10% Attack.)

Seventeen whispered proudly:

> "Little King...

You're climbing fast. But remember...

Stronger monsters are waiting."

Ray smiled coldly.

"I hope they don't make me bored."

Chapter 63 – "The Trial Begins: A New Journey"

The Academy grounds buzzed with excitement.

Thousands of students — boys and girls from every corner of the continent — stood lined up in the vast central courtyard. Each wore the Academy's uniform: black and gold stitched jackets, sturdy combat boots, and the silver badge of the Academy crest.

Among them stood Ray, his hands casually resting behind his back, eyes half-closed, feeling the subtle pull of energy all around.

Today was the start of their first official trial.

"Attention!"

A powerful voice echoed across the ground. A figure floated high above them — a middle-aged man with sharp gray hair and golden eyes.

General Dorian, the Vice-Principal of the Academy and a peak A-rank warrior.

"This Academy is not a place for the weak. You are here because you showed potential, talent, and bravery. But potential alone is not enough!"

He paused, letting the words sink into every heart.

"You must earn your right to stay here."

Ray listened quietly, his heart steady.

He wasn't nervous. Instead, an electric thrill ran through him — an adventure was beginning.

---

[The Trial Rules]

A huge glowing board appeared in the air, showing the rules:

1. Survival Duration: 7 Days

2. Location: Forbidden Forest near Academy Borders

3. Goal: Survive, Hunt Beasts, Collect Trial Points

4. Bonus: Team formation allowed. Cooperation rewarded.

5. Warning: Kill, injury, or sabotage of classmates = Expulsion.

---

[Forbidden Forest – Information]

> A massive area where F to D rank beasts lived.

Natural mana storms occasionally sweep the forest.

Low danger zones are marked, but students must find safe spots themselves.

Points gained by:

Surviving each day (+10 Points/day)

Killing beasts (+Points based on beast rank)

Finding hidden supply caches (+Bonus)

---

"Teleportation in three minutes," the voice boomed.

Ray smiled faintly.

'Seventeen,' he whispered in his mind. 'Any advice?'

[Seventeen: "Hehe, collect survival points quietly first. Later, hunt beasts. Also, watch people. Strong allies are treasures. Weak ones are burdens."]

Ray chuckled mentally.

Seventeen's cold but practical logic always made sense.

He adjusted the leather pouch on his waist — inside were a few survival supplies: water, food capsules, a map, and a lightweight dagger.

His real weapons were hidden — inside his Domain.

His army of Frost Wolves, Bone Soldiers, and Shadow Crows rested quietly, ready to be called at a moment's notice.

---

Teleportation Portal activated.

A swirl of golden energy swallowed Ray — and in a flash, he found himself standing in the middle of a dense, dark forest.

The Trial had begun.

The air smelled of moss, fresh leaves, and the faint metallic scent of beasts nearby.

He scanned his surroundings quickly:

Tall ancient trees, twisted vines, thick mist hanging low.

Somewhere in the distance, a beast roared — a deep, low sound.

Ray pulled his hood up and began to move.

---

[Five Minutes Later]

Ray was scaling a tree when he heard rapid footsteps below.

Three figures — two boys and a girl — ran past, panting heavily.

Behind them charged a beast — a F-rank Blood Fang Wolf, muscles rippling, fangs bared.

Ray paused, watching with cool eyes.

'Save them... or ignore?' he thought.

Seventeen answered lazily.

[Seventeen: "If you save them, you can create debts. If you don't, less trouble."]

Ray smiled.

He never minded a few useful debts.

Without hesitation, he jumped.

Thump!

Landing silently behind the beast, Ray pulled a bone dagger from his pouch.

Before the wolf even sensed him, Ray's hand blurred —

Slash!

The beast collapsed with a wet thud, a clean slice across its neck.

The three students stared at Ray, stunned.

"You're safe now," Ray said calmly, cleaning his dagger with a cloth.

The girl, a silver-haired beauty, gasped. "T-Thank you! My name is Clara!"

Ray smiled faintly. "Ray."

He walked away without waiting for thanks.

Behind him, the three stared at his back, a mixture of awe and confusion in their eyes.

---

In the shadows of the forest, Ray moved like a ghost.

Killing beasts,

Finding hidden caches,

Avoiding unnecessary fights,

And building silent reputation among students.

Meanwhile, inside his Domain, the Frostwolf Tree had already grown its second wolf.

The small army grew quietly.

This was just the beginning.

---

[To be continued in Chapter 64: "Enemies, Allies, and Secrets of the Forest"]

---

Chapter 64 – "Enemies, Allies, and Secrets of the Forest"

The mist thickened around the Forbidden Forest as the sun dipped lower.

Shadows grew longer. Beasts grew bolder.

Ray crouched near a broken tree trunk, studying his crude hand-drawn map.

He had already marked three supply cache locations and avoided two high-threat beast zones.

'Progress is good,' he thought.

Just then, footsteps approached cautiously.

"Ray...?"

A soft, hesitant voice.

Ray turned slightly.

It was Clara — the silver-haired girl he saved earlier — along with her two companions.

One was a tall boy with twin daggers. The other was a shorter boy carrying a massive shield.

"We... want to join you," Clara said, biting her lip nervously.

"You saved us. You're strong. If we stick together, we can survive better."

Ray studied them for a moment.

Seventeen's voice hummed in his mind:

[Seventeen: "Two mid-F rankers. Girl has high mana sensitivity. Dagger boy fast but reckless. Shield boy defensive. Acceptable for now."]

Ray nodded lightly. "Fine. But listen carefully."

He pointed at them one by one.

"You follow orders. No stupid heroics. If you can't keep up, I leave you behind."

The trio nodded eagerly.

Thus, Ray's first small survival group was formed.

---

[Survival Group: Team Ray]

Ray (Leader) — Unofficial strength: Unknown. (They guessed high F-rank, truth far stronger.)

Clara (Healer + Sensor) — High Mana Affinity.

Kane (Dagger User) — Speed-based fighter.

Bran (Shield Bearer) — Defense and protection.

---

[First Mission: Secure a Safe Camp]

Ray led the group deeper into the forest.

Every few steps, he released a faint pulse of mana — carefully sensing beast movements nearby.

Suddenly, Bran whispered urgently, "Movement ahead!"

Ray held up a hand.

Everyone froze.

From the bushes ahead, a massive shape emerged — a Mid-D-rank Ironhide Bear.

It was huge — easily 4 meters tall, muscles like steel cables, silver-black fur shimmering under the faint light.

Ray narrowed his eyes.

[Seventeen: "Good prey. High points. But dangerous for normal students."]

Kane cursed under his breath. "T-That's D-rank! We should run!"

Ray shook his head calmly.

"We fight."

---

[Battle Start]

Ray's voice was crisp. "Bran, block its first charge. Kane, aim for the legs. Clara, boost Bran's defense."

"And me?" Clara asked, wide-eyed.

"You and I will finish it."

Bran gulped but moved forward bravely, raising his shield.

ROARRRR!

The Ironhide Bear charged like a boulder.

BOOM!

The impact shook the ground — Bran slid back several meters, his shield trembling, but he held firm.

Behind him, Kane flashed forward, twin daggers slicing toward the beast's rear legs.

Slash! Slash!

Small wounds opened up, making the bear stumble slightly.

Ray moved like a shadow.

Mana gathered in his right hand as he whispered:

"Bone Spike."

A sharp, ghostly bone spear formed and launched with terrifying speed.

PUCHI!

The spike pierced the Bear's right eye.

The beast roared in agony, swinging blindly.

Ray didn't stop.

He summoned two Frost Wolves from his Domain.

The ethereal white wolves materialized beside him — fast, silent, lethal.

They leapt onto the Bear, clawing and biting at its legs.

Crippled, blinded, and exhausted — the Ironhide Bear finally collapsed with a final groan.

---

[Victory!]

Clara fell to her knees, panting. "We...we did it..."

Kane laughed breathlessly. "That was insane!"

Ray calmly approached the fallen bear.

From its chest, he pulled out a Beast Core — a glowing orange sphere of pure mana.

[You gained 100 Trial Points!]

[Beast Core Acquired: Mid-D rank.]

Ray nodded with satisfaction.

Their small team was forming nicely.

---

[Camp Building]

By nightfall, they found a hidden rocky alcove beside a flowing stream.

Ray directed them:

Bran reinforced the perimeter with sharp sticks and vines.

Kane set up mana traps.

Clara healed minor wounds and purified water.

Ray summoned a few Bone Soldiers — ordering them to stand silent guard through the night.

Clara gasped when she saw them.

"T-Those are... Necromancer summons?"

Ray simply smiled without answering.

In the distance, howls echoed — but they faded as they neared Ray's hidden camp.

The night passed quietly.

For now.
