Chapter 13 - chapter 12

Rain lay on the bed, staring silently at the dark wooden ceiling.

No sound filled the room except for the soft rustle of trees outside... and a quiet sigh that escaped him against his will.

He had heard her.

In a faint, trembling voice, the words had slipped from her lips:

"Me too."

It wasn't just a passing phrase.

It was a revelation—

Proof that she was human like him. That she could hurt, think, hesitate.

But then she had fled immediately afterward, as if she hadn't meant to speak... or wasn't ready to admit it.

Since that night, things had changed.

She no longer approached him while he was awake.

No longer placed food in front of him like before, no longer sat nearby, quietly observing his reactions.

Now, she would only come when she thought he was asleep... checking his temperature, changing his bandages with the utmost care, leaving a small piece of candy on the table—then disappearing again.

But Rain... wasn't always truly asleep.

One night, he lay still on the bed as usual, closing his eyes just before he heard her light footsteps entering the room.

Moments passed... he could feel her presence drawing near.

A whisper of air brushed his skin, a warm hand gently sweeping a stray lock of hair from his forehead.

He remained motionless, breathing steadily, though his heart thundered wildly in his chest.

She thinks I'm asleep...

After she left, he slowly opened his eyes.

He gazed at the small, wrapped candy left on the table—and couldn't help but smile.

Always acting strong... yet she runs away like a little rabbit whenever we meet face to face.

He lifted his eyes toward the slightly ajar door.

And there she was.

Does she really think she's hiding?

Barely half her face and body were covered by the wall, her wide eyes peeking out from behind it so blatantly it was almost laughable.

What are you thinking, I wonder?

Are you afraid of me... or of yourself?

He rested his head back on the pillow and closed his eyes again.

Every time she drew near, she left behind something warm...

Even if she never said a word.
