Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4 : Just believe in me

MEANWHILE AT ANTI HAZRAD HEAD QUATERS

The next day...

Takuya walked down the sleek, futuristic hallway, carrying a hamper filled with treats. The scent of fresh pastries and exotic snacks drifted from the neatly wrapped basket as he approached Halley's office.

"Yo, Takuya! Wait up!"

A familiar voice called out from behind.

Takuya sighed. He already knew who it was.

Kota came jogging toward him, his beloved sniper in hand, a lazy smirk on his face.

"So, who's the hamper for?" Kota asked, already knowing the answer.

"It's for Halley," Takuya replied casually—until he noticed Kota's expression.

That look.

The one that screamed, "You definitely like her."

Takuya groaned. "Don't give me that look."

Kota feigned innocence. "What look?" he chuckled, clearly enjoying this.

"You love Halley, don't you?" Kota teased, nudging him slightly.

Takuya clicked his tongue. "Ugh. My relationship with Halley is like the one you have with your sniper—you just care for it."

Kota grinned, eyes twinkling with mischief.

"Me and my sniper stay together like lovers... but you? You can only imagine Halley in your"

Before Kota could finish that sentence, Takuya's fingers expertly struck a pressure point on his neck.

THUD.

Kota collapsed mid-sentence, clutching his sniper even as he hit the floor.

Takuya exhaled, shaking his head.

"Idiot."

Then, stepping over Kota's unconscious body, he entered Halley's office.

Halley sat at her desk, tears slipping silently down her cheeks as she held an old, worn photograph—a picture of her younger self and her brother, Sakuragi.

Takuya walked in, his usual carefree energy replaced with quiet understanding. He gently placed the hamper on her desk before taking a seat beside her.

"Hey..." he started softly. "I know how much you miss him, but we can't ignore the fact that he's a Hazard."

Halley's grip on the photo tightened. Then, slowly, she turned to face him.

"I need to tell you something."

Her voice was low, hesitant.

"But promise me... you won't tell anyone."

Takuya met her gaze and nodded without hesitation.

Halley exhaled, then stood up.

She glanced at the hamper, eyes focused—not on the treats inside, but on something deeper.

Without lifting a finger, a granola bar slowly rose from the basket, hovering in midair.

Then, with a flick of her mind—it crushed itself, crumbling into dust.

Takuya stiffened.

"You're a Hazard," he whispered, his voice laced with disbelief.

Halley let out a small, bitter chuckle.

"I've been a Hazard since birth. But I can control mine, so I guess... I'm not like the rest of them." Her voice wavered. "But I'm scared. Scared that one day... I could become like him."

Takuya's fear melted away.

He reached out, gently taking her right hand in his.

"You're not like him. I trust you."

Halley's fingers trembled in his grip. She looked into his eyes.

Then, with a deep breath, she whispered—

"But if I do... if I ever lose control... I need you to stop me. I trust you the most, Takuya. If that time comes—kill me."

Takuya's heart clenched.

"It will never come to that. I promise."

And with that, he pulled her into a tight hug.

AT THE SANCTUM

Father Ben led Rin, Glitch, and Kai down a long hallway, their footsteps echoing softly.

"Wait... so you've been a Hazard since birth, and no one in our entire school noticed until just days ago?" Rin asked in disbelief, absentmindedly fiddling with her hair.

"Humans are dumber than Hazards. I've been saying that since I got here," Glitch scoffed.

"We are all equal," Father Ben interjected calmly.

Kai smirked. "What's with Mr. Liberal over here?"

Glitch rolled his eyes. "Father Ben is an angel."

Kai raised a brow. "Angels? On Earth?"

Father Ben only smiled. "Welcome to our world."

They entered a large hall that led to a stage. About 130 Hazard children sat in the audience, each one unique, their powers subtly on display—some crackling with energy, others floating midair or manipulating the air around them.

Father Ben stepped forward, his voice calm yet commanding.

"Excuse me... boys and girls, how are we doing today?"

The crowd clapped in response.

"Let's start the morning with some breaking news. Today, we will be welcoming our very first Hazard with not one, but two powers."

A collective gasp rippled through the room.

"Yes, you heard me right. Come up here, Rin."

Rin's stomach twisted. She swallowed hard, her legs suddenly feeling like lead as she made her way toward the podium.

"H-Hi," she managed, barely above a whisper.

"Show us your powers!" someone from the crowd yelled—a red-haired guy smirking in his seat.

Rin closed her eyes, focusing—she had done it before, why wasn't it working now? She clenched her fists, trying again.

Nothing.

The silence turned to murmurs. Then, the murmurs turned into low boos.

Her heart pounded.

Then—BANG.

Glitch slammed his fist on the podium, stepping up beside her.

"Okay, shut up. Like you shitheads even know how to control your own powers."

The crowd froze.

Glitch's sharp eyes scanned the room, daring anyone to speak.

"She has two powers. And I've witnessed them myself."

A second of silence passed.

Then, from the back—

"Who the fuck are you?" said the red haired guy from before

"quiet down children , rin has multiple powers you might be able to see it now but it is real and i believe this might just change how we see ourselves"

the crowd clapped like whatever came out of father ben mouth was gold

ABOUT AN HOUR LATER Father ben was showing Kai and Rin around the sanctum

Kai and Rin walked beside Father Ben, their footsteps echoing softly through the Sanctum's marble halls.

Kai glanced at Rin. "So, uh... two powers, huh? That's kinda crazy."

Rin sighed. "Tell me about it." She still felt the weight of the moment from earlier. The stares, the boos—it was all too much.

Father Ben, walking ahead, spoke without turning. "You both are important, more than you know."

Kai raised an eyebrow. "Yeah? 'Cause right now, it just feels like we're walking into more problems."

Rin huffed. "Agreed."

Father Ben chuckled. "Doubt is normal, but you'll soon see."

Rin exchanged a glance with Kai. Something about the way Father Ben said it sent a chill down her spine.

Father Ben slid open a massive door, revealing a gym so large it looked like it could store the Titanic. Rin's eyes immediately landed on a girl standing in the center—tattoos covered her arms, legs, and even part of her neck, but her face remained untouched, blending perfectly with her short brown hair. The aura she gave off was both intimidating and effortless.

"Anya, there's someone I want you to meet," Father Ben said as he walked toward her.

The girl turned, her deep brown eyes locking onto Rin's. She approached with a calm, almost lazy confidence. Up close, Rin realized she was about 5'8"—taller than she expected. Despite the intimidating ink that pulsed faintly on her skin, her voice was soft.

"Hey, I'm Anya. You must be new to the Sanctum." She smiled.

Rin swallowed, feeling a little out of place. "Uh... yeah, I guess."

Anya's tattoos shimmered slightly before settling again, as if reacting to something unseen. "No need to be nervous. I know Father Ben can be all mysterious, but you're in good hands."

Kai, standing beside Rin, folded his arms. "You've been here long?"

Anya nodded. "Long enough to know this place isn't just a refuge—it's training for something bigger."

Kai scoffed. "Bigger like what? A war?"

Anya's smile faded slightly as she exchanged a glance with Father Ben. "Something like that."

"How does Super heros sound " Father Ben said this with a bright smile as he stared at Kai and Rin , Both of them replied " SUPERHEROS ?" With confused looks on their faces

MEANWHILE AT ANTI HAZARD HEAD QUATERS

Halley adjusted her tie, the sleek fabric of her feminine suit snug against her frame. The Anti-Hazard logo sat boldly on her chest, a symbol of everything she stood for. She exhaled, mentally preparing for the meeting ahead, when Takuya stepped into her office.

"Hey, you good?" he asked, leaning against the doorframe.

She looked up, offering him a faint smile. "Yeah. Hopefully, they'll approve our request to use the satellite. If we can lock onto her location, this whole chase might finally come to an end."

Takuya watched as she tightened the tie around her collar, his eyes flickering with something unreadable before he casually asked, "After the meeting... wanna grab something to eat?"

Halley raised an eyebrow. "With you and Echo? Sure, I'd love to."

Takuya hesitated for a moment, twirling a strand of his green hair. "Actually... I was thinking just you and me."

Halley blinked, her fingers pausing on her sleeve. "Umm... just you and me alone?" A light blush crept onto her cheeks.

Takuya nodded quickly. "Yeah."

She smiled softly, looking away for a second before meeting his gaze again. "Sure."

Takuya grinned like an idiot. "Cool. See you at Sushio Masa by five!" He turned and practically bolted out of the room, leaving Halley shaking her head with an amused sigh.

As the meeting began, the conference room was filled with high-ranking generals, their uniforms adorned with badges and medals that told stories of battles fought and victories won. The air was thick with authority and expectation.

"You may begin, Ms. Halley," said an older general with a neatly trimmed white beard.

Halley stood up, her expression composed but determined. "Since the fall of Earth's peace, humanity has faced one relentless threat—Hazards. As the AHA (Anti-Hazard Authority), we have successfully eliminated over 1.6 million Hazards and captured 2,500, keeping them away from the public. Let's not forget the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives along the way. However, there is one problem that stands above all others—a special breed of Hazard, one that is not only difficult to kill but nearly impossible to locate."

She paused, letting the weight of her words settle. "This is due to a hidden sanctuary, rumored to be created by the wanted criminal Ben Petrikov. A place known as the Sanctum—"

"Stop right there," a gruff voice interrupted.

A general wearing an eye patch stood up, his presence commanding attention. "We are not using the satellites to track down Hazards that aren't harming civilians. It's a waste of resources."

Halley clenched her fists, her frustration barely contained. "This isn't about ordinary Hazards. There's a new breed—one with two powers."

Her voice faltered slightly, but the urgency in her tone was undeniable.

The one-eyed general scoffed, walking towards her. "And? You expect us to burn through three billion yen just to chase down some overpowered freak? This isn't a personal vendetta, Ms. Halley. We don't throw money at every anomaly."

His words struck a nerve. Halley's jaw tightened, her hands trembling with anger. Without another word, she turned on her heel and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

The general sighed, shaking his head before turning back to the others. "Now that Ms. Halley is gone, let's move on to something more important—encouraging more kids to join the AHA."

Halleys phone beeped with messages from Takuya but she didn't reply
