Chapter 24 - 23. Convergance of Flames

Chapter Twenty-Three: Convergence of Flames

"In the dance of fire and heart, we find our true strength."

—Riven

The rebellion had found a semblance of order in the aftermath of the Herald's defeat.

Kael stood at the edge of the camp, his gaze fixed on the horizon.

Riven approached quietly, his presence a steadying force.

"You've been distant," Riven observed, standing beside him.

Kael sighed, the weight of his thoughts evident. "I fear what I might become."

Riven turned to him, his expression softening. "And what is that?"

"A weapon," Kael replied. "A force of destruction with no purpose beyond the fight."

Riven placed a hand on his arm, grounding him. "You are more than your flame, Kael. You are the choices you make."

Kael met his gaze, searching for the sincerity he knew Riven always offered. "And what if my choices lead me down a path I can't return from?"

Riven's grip tightened slightly, offering silent reassurance. "Then we walk that path together."

The days that followed were filled with preparations for the next phase of the rebellion.

One evening, as they sat together by the fire, Kael spoke again. "I've been thinking about the future. About what comes after all this."

Riven looked at him, his expression thoughtful. "And what have you decided?"

Kael hesitated, then said, "I don't know. But I know I want you by my side, no matter what."

Riven reached out, taking Kael's hand in his. "Always."
