The interrogation began. The first man, let's call him A, a 28-year-old bartender on a cruise ship. He knew the missing woman for about 2-3 months before they met.
"Why did you meet her in a place like that?"
A secluded warehouse in the suburbs, no restaurants or entertainment venues, not a place where young couples would meet.
"How should I put it, I'm embarrassed," A said with a look of discomfort.
"If you provide helpful information, even if it's a crime, you can get a reduced sentence," the officer said.
"I didn't do anything illegal. It's just..." He looked ashamed, but there was a hint of pride in his eyes.
"We were going to do something... like... outdoor stuff, and I thought she would like a place that was exciting."
"Oh..." Even though she was a female police officer, she wasn't naive enough to act like it was strange.
A then continued to provide information. There wasn't much, just two flirtatious people meeting up to do something wild, looking for sexual excitement. But the strange thing was, she had actually met with three other men at the same time.
Or was it...?
"I've never participated in swinging before, and I didn't think a woman who looked so innocent would dare," said B, a handsome, muscular 30-year-old trainer, with a hurt expression.
B insisted that he went there under the impression that it was a private meeting. He seemed unaccustomed to being tricked by a woman, even though he had chosen someone who seemed fragile and easy to control. Meeting other men at the meeting place was unexpected.
"You didn't know those men before?"
"I met them for the first time today."
Let go to 'C'. Mr.C has testimony was almost identical, but he insisted he didn't meet her for the same reason as the previous two. He went to meet her for purely romantic reasons.
"I thought she actually lived there, so I went to see her. When I parked the car, I noticed the place was strange, but I didn't think anything of it. It's because I wanted to see her so much. My heart was..." He put his hand to his chest. "I really liked her."
He sounded like a good guy.
"I'll give you all the information I know, in case it helps with the case. I feel terrible about what happened to her. There must be a reason why she did that. Anything I can do to help her, I will."
He was starting to sound pitiful.
"Why don't you call your lawyer like everyone else?"
"My girlfriend will take care of it."
"You... have a girlfriend?"
"Yes," he nodded, smiling nonchalantly.
Ugh, what a scumbag!
D, a 35-year-old businessman, had his lawyer sitting in on the interrogation. He was careful with every word he spoke, his expression was poisonous, but he had the most believable testimony of all the men.
"I was meeting the woman to buy something. Not drugs, don't get me wrong. It was a strong painkiller that wasn't legally licensed yet."
"Did you buy it for yourself?"
"No, I was just going to buy it for my partner."
He did business with many women, and one of his business management methods was to pamper them.
After a detailed interrogation of all four men, it became clear that they were all despicable. They were all scumbags who had come together. It was unfortunate that this case had to be handled. It was full of unpleasantness. The testimonies of each man at the scene were not credible.
Someone was lying. No, they were probably all lying.
The law allowed them to detain suspects for no more than 24 hours. They had to extract the truth before time ran out.
