Chapter 9 - Back to Privet Drive

Vernon, as usual, wore an angry expression on his face, clearly disgusted by the fact that he had to come to pick up a 'freak'. He undoubtedly abhorred magic and anything related to it.

Witnessing him with that expression, Harry couldn't help but remember the prank he had pulled on his uncle in his previous life.

He had told Vernon about his godfather, Sirius Black, and that he was an absconding 'murderer' and a wanted criminal. That Black was maintaining regular contact with him and was constantly checking upon him.

Vernon, along with Petunia, had been horrified. Out of fear of his 'murderer' godfather, they had treated Harry surprisingly well that summer vacation compared to other years. He had not been crushed with house chores or other useless works. Even Dudley had maintained a boundary in his behaviour.

Harry's lips widened in a smile, remembering the past. Although this time, he was not going to use the same trick, he had to admit that it had been funny.

After living a life of more than three centuries, Harry had more or less forgotten and forgiven his aunt's family. In his life which had been full of miseries, the behaviour of the Dursleys family was not something he had held in his heart.

But now that he was back, he was going to give the Dursleys some small but definitely well-deserved punishment. He was going to have a fun vacation with his family, and he couldn't help but smirk inwardly.

"Boy," shouted Vernon, who had spotted Harry by now. "What are you doing standing there? Move fast and don't waste my time."

Harry grinned and shouted, "Uncle…," and jogged towards Vernon with an excited face. It was like as if he was seeing some very loved relative.

Vernon was taken aback by the cheerful voice and the excitement on Harry's face. He wondered inwardly if his nephew had suffered some kind of illness or maybe brain damage.

Harry, in moments, stood before Vernon and cheered loudly, even attracting the attention of a few passers-by, "Uncle… you are here!"

Vernon looked around and gave an apologetic smile to everyone.

He hushed, "Boy, what are you doing? Has your brain gone rotten? Stop embarrassing me."

Harry's expression turned pained. He spotted a sad look on his face, "But, uncle… I am only happy that you came to pick me up."

Seeing Harry's expression, Vernon panicked. "No… no… it's fine. I just asked you to stop being so loud."

Not willing to create a scene, he quickened his pace, "Come with me."

Harry added in delight, "Thank you, uncle."

Meanwhile, Vernon quickly turned around and decided it would be good if he could reach his home first and then deal with this nonsense. Even though his little mind inside his fat face could not help but wonder what could have happened to Harry.

On the other side, Harry was laughing like a madman internally. Oh boy, he really was going to enjoy this vacation.

Vernon had taken a few steps when he remembered something.

He turned and questioned, "Boy, where is that trunk of yours?"

That trunk had reserved a special hatred from Vernon. Carrying such an old relic in public always embarrassed Vernon.

Harry, who was two steps behind Vernon, almost jumped and landed next to Vernon, scaring the hell out of him.

"Uncle, I learned a new magical spell," said Harry in delight. "With this, I can shrink the size of my trunk."

"Would you want to see it?" asked Harry with expectant eyes.

Vernon formed an expression of confusion on his face.

He voiced his doubt, "How are you going to show me? Aren't you prohibited from doing those freakish things outside your school?"

In his normal life, Harry would have gotten extremely angry hearing the word 'freakish.' But now, knowing how those purebloods treated the muggle-born, this word sounded almost respectful to him.

He leaned in and whispered, "Uncle, I have learned some tricks. I can now freely use magic outside the school."

The look of horror that appeared on Vernon's face made Harry almost burst out in laughter. He was struggling too hard not to cackle in front of Vernon's face.

Vernon finally regained his breath and stammered with wide eyes, his index finger pointing towards Harry. "You… you… can now do magic outside the school?"

Harry grinned and nodded happily; his face filled with joy. Vernon's fear increased even further.

Vernon was in no mood for any conversation, and he hurried his pace. He wanted to reach his house as soon as possible. Harry followed him behind.

During the entire journey, Vernon maintained an awkward silence, and while Harry tried to initiate some small conversation, every time Harry spoke, Vernon was frightened. After all, he could not forget what had happened to his sister the previous year. He did not want to float like her, under any condition.

Vernon entered his house at Number 4, Privet Drive, in a hurry.

Petunia, who had opened the door for her husband, looked at Vernon in confusion, while Dudley was busy with his work, eating.

"What happened?" she asked, confusion marring her face.

Vernon kept quiet, looking at Harry.

Petunia, still confused, looked towards Harry, "Boy… what has happened?"

A look of confusion appeared on Harry's 'innocent' face, "I do not know. He did not even talk to me during the entire journey."

Harry, deciding that he had a few other things to complete, said before Petunia could reply, "Uncle, I will go to my room. I will talk to you all later."

With this, Harry started climbing the stairs towards his room. Petunia was about to say something and berate Harry, but Vernon took hold of her hand and stopped her.

"Okay," he said, giving Harry a small and stiff smile.

Petunia looked at Vernon in confusion. He fell onto the sofa, after Harry was out of his view, in exhaustion and stammered, "The boy has gone mad. I tell you."

Petunia continued looking at him in confusion until Vernon muttered, "He says that he can now do those freakish things outside the school."

Petunia took few seconds to understand what did Vernon meant but the look of horror which appeared on her face was unforgettable.

"Magic outside the school?" She reeled in shock to which Vernon gave a tense nod.
