Chapter 30: Selvara's Secret
The pact was sealed.
A faint pulse of silver light wrapped itself around Ren Kamizuki's wrist — a thin, spectral chain, cold as death. The Keeper of the Library bowed once more before vanishing into the endless stacks.
Ren flexed his hand, feeling the weight of invisible oaths settle into his soul.
"Congratulations," Selvara said softly, stepping closer. "You've just signed your life away."
Ren gave her a sidelong glance. "You sound almost... regretful."
Selvara hesitated. Her usual calm faltered. In the stillness of the Library, she looked almost fragile — like someone carrying a secret too heavy to bear.
"I wasn't supposed to meet you like this," she said. Her voice trembled slightly. "I was ordered to guide whoever inherited the Void Protocol... and, if necessary, eliminate them."
Ren stiffened. The air between them grew tense.
"And yet you're helping me," he said quietly.
Selvara smiled bitterly. "Maybe because I know what's coming. Maybe because... I'm tired of following orders from ghosts and monsters."
She reached into her cloak and pulled out a small, black sigil — marked with the crest of House Solmere... but warped, cracked, as if rejected.
"I defected," Selvara whispered. "I chose to walk the Null Path. Just like you."
The revelation hit Ren harder than he expected. In a world where loyalties were bought and sold like cheap armor, a genuine act of rebellion was rare — and dangerous.
Before he could respond, a faint tremor shook the Library floor. From somewhere above, a distant alarm bell sounded.
Selvara's face darkened."They've started," she said. "Auron's moving against you. The Faction War... it's begun."
Ren's hand tightened around the Codex Nullum.
No more running.No more hiding.
The time to fight had come.
