By the time the people arrived to the forest, nobody's breathing had gotten back to normal. The darkness was penetrated by the flames of the distant burning home. Everyone thought they could still hear Scarecrow's cries.
The terror persisted.
"This isn't over," remarked Pandit Shivprasad softly. We cannot be confident until we have absolute proof that Scarecrow's spirit is free.
The headman of the village was concerned. However, we set the black book on fire. What shall we do if Scarecrow is still alive?
"I recall my grandfather saying that Scarecrow's spirit is not only bound to the book but also to a secret amulet," said Kashi Nath, who had been silent up until this point. His power won't be lost if that amulet is still secure somewhere.
How to Find the Amulet
The folks were lost in contemplation. What location might the amulet be? Was it concealed somewhere, or in the same ruins?
At that moment, a young man by the name of Shambhu blurted out, "I noticed Scarecrow's shadow moving back and forth in one spot while we were in the mansion. The amulet might be there.
However, the burning mansion was now the issue. There was no way to get there.
The Sign of the Scarecrow
A chilly breeze started to blow from the forest's interior. All of a sudden, a neighboring tree began to shake violently. The peasants were shocked.
The Panditji gestured toward the tree at that very moment. "This is where the amulet might be. This wind is a symbol of some power, not just any wind.
The peasants approached the tree with caution. There was something gleaming in its roots. The moment someone reached out to touch it, darkness engulfed them. The voice echoed, icy and menacing: "I will return... This is just the beginning!"
Was Scarecrow's power ultimately derived from this amulet? What would the peasants have to do now, if that were true?
In Part 10, this was the ninth installment of "Scarecrow's Revenge." Will Scarecrow's terror resume, or will the villagers actually be able to stop him?
