Chapter 4 - The Heart of the Sky

The glowing orb floated between them, spinning slowly.soft pulses or light moved through it, like a heartbeat. It wasn't metal. It wasn't stone. It was something ..... more.

Kael took a step back.

"What is it ?" he whispered.

Captain Vex lowered his weapon just slightly. Even he looked unsure now "it's the Skycore," he said quietly. "The thing that powers the old cities. The things they used to fly islands like this."

Kael blinked." You mean..... This treasure--------"

Vex cut him off. "Is worth more than the gold. This is control. This is power."

The orb responded to their voices, glowing brighter.

Then a deep sound echoed through the tower ---------like thunder, but not from the sky.

It came from the ground.

The orb flashed once, and a circle of light spread across the floor.

Ancient symbols lit up, one by one, and the walls began to move.

The tower was waking up.

Vex shouted, "it's triggering the defenses! Move!"

Kael grabbed the orb without thinking. The moment he touched it, something pushed into his mind. Visions.Flying cities. Falling ships.

A war in the skies.

He stumbled but held on.

The floor cracked beneath them. A blast of wind shot up from below. Stone platforms began to fall into the clouds.

Kael ran for the exit, the orb clutched to his chest.

Vex chased after him, gun drawn again. "Give it to me, kael! You don't know what you are carrying!"

Kael jumped into the cockpit of The Emberwing. He didn't answer. He just started the engine.

As the tower collapsed behind him, he lifted off the crumbing In island just in time.

Below, captain Vex shouted his name, fading into the storm.

Up in the sky again, Keal looked at the rob. It floated above his lap now, calm and bright.

He didn't just find a treasure.

He found the key to something bigger, something that others would kill for.

And now .....the real journey had begun.
