Chapter 3 - The Possession

Richard and Jessica rushed outside, closely followed by the rest of the family. Richard's voice echoed through the misty night, laced with panic.

"Mom! Mom, where are you?"

Their eyes searched frantically in every direction as the storm clouds lingered above. The air was thick with tension, and the ground was slick with rain. Suddenly, Jessica called out.

"Richard! Come here—look!"

He hurried to her side, and she pointed to the ground. Bloodstained footprints trailed across the muddy path, smeared and uneven—as though someone had been dragged through the woods. The trail led toward the lake, growing fainter as it approached the water's edge.

They followed the path, calling Susan's name. Each step deepened the silence, each breath heavier than the last. Just as fear began to settle over them like fog, a chilling scream pierced the stillness.

From the shadows of the trees, Susan emerged—disheveled, soaked, and no longer herself. Her eyes were hollow, distant, and glowing with a strange fury. Without warning, she lunged at Jessica, grabbing her by the hair and screaming in a guttural, otherworldly voice.

Richard rushed forward in horror.

"Mom! Stop!" he yelled, struggling to pull her away.

But Susan didn't stop.

Her mouth twisted into a terrifying grin, and a deep, unnatural groan escaped her throat. Her voice morphed into something unrecognizable as she shrieked,

"He's mine! Richard is mine! He will marry me! It's my wedding!"

Jessica's face turned pale as Richard shielded her, yelling,

"Go! Get back to the house, now!"

They ran, breathless and shaken, slamming the front door shut behind them. From the window, they watched as Susan staggered toward the house, making haunting, unearthly noises. Her presence sent chills through everyone.

Before anyone could speak, she raised her hand.

"You've come about the possession," she said without looking up.

Jessica shivered.

"Yes… How did you—?"

The psychic slowly stood and moved toward Susan's bound form. She whispered incantations and blew a powdery substance across Susan's face. Suddenly, Susan let out a scream so chilling it silenced the room.

The psychic turned to them, her eyes wide and grave.

"She is possessed… by the spirit of Evelyn."

Jessica's heart dropped.

"What can we do?"

The psychic turned to Richard and pointed at him with a trembling finger.

"You," she said, her voice low and commanding. "Only you can save them both—your mother and your bride."

Richard stared at her, stunned.

"Me? But how? The psychic did not answer. Her eyes held a knowledge older than time.

His heart thundered in his chest. How could he save the two women he loved from a curse that had haunted this town for centuries?

The room grew silent, the weight of the ancient curse pressing down on them all.
