Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: A Chance Encounter with Guinaifen

Guinaifen had many siblings, and several of her younger brothers and sisters were still underage.

To lighten her family's burden, she started working as a livestream performer—hoping to earn money through street shows and online content.

Despite always wearing a cheerful, sunny smile, the weight she carried was anything but light.

While Solon was momentarily zoning out, a group of people in crimson uniforms hurried over—it was the Disciplinary Commission.

Their role was similar to city management officers, and street performers like Guinaifen fell under their jurisdiction.

"You again, girl?!"

The bearded officer leading the group frowned deeply upon spotting Guinaifen among the crowd.

"S-Sorry! I'm really sorry, uncle! I'll leave right away!"

Guinaifen quickly stopped her acrobatic act, pressing her palms together apologetically.

"How many times has it been now? If you keep performing without a license, we're going to confiscate your gear."

The officer sighed, equal parts exasperated and stern.

"My paperwork's being processed—it just hasn't come through yet…"

"Then wait until you get it! You can't even wait a few more days?"

Xianzhou citizens lived long lives and weren't particularly obsessed with productivity, so bureaucracy moved slowly.

But Guinaifen was a short-lived species, and with a struggling household behind her, she couldn't afford to wait. So she'd taken a gamble and performed without a license—only to be caught yet again.

Luckily, the Disciplinary Commission officers weren't entirely heartless. After a harsh scolding, they let her off with a warning again, not even confiscating her livestream setup.

The surrounding crowd, seeing that the drama had ended, slowly dispersed.

Solon left with them.

He hadn't taken it too seriously—just a random scene on the street. Still, it did feel oddly fated.

Golden Calyx Alley was vast—easily a thousand times bigger than what you saw in the game.

He'd only come out to buy something, and still managed to run into a familiar character. That kind of coincidence made Solon reflect.

Once he got home, Solon immediately took out the cutting tool he had bought—to attempt suicide again.

To avoid spraying blood all over the place, he went into the bathroom this time.

Come to think of it—bathroom, cutting tool, corpse… those keywords sounded an awful lot like the setup of a murder scene.

Shaking off those thoughts, Solon activated the saw.

Whirr~!

The high-frequency blade began to glow red-hot like a branding iron.

Taking a deep breath, Solon pressed his neck against the spinning blade…

No idea how much time had passed before he regained consciousness.

He stretched his slightly stiff limbs. Once his body was moving again, he picked up the cutter once more, flipped the switch, and pressed the back of his hand directly against the spinning disc.

This time, the result was completely different.

Sparks flew—and then the blade shattered on impact.

Seeing this ridiculous scene unfold, Solon couldn't hold back his grin anymore.

Standard Cloud Knight weapons could no longer harm him.

"Indestructible Glazed Body" truly lived up to its status as a gold-tier trait. Its growth potential was terrifying.

If this was the power of a gold trait, what kind of strength would a red-tier one grant?

Just thinking about it made his blood race.

Regular Cloud Knights posed no threat to him now. The next step was to find a Pathstrider strong enough to help evolve his golden body even further.

Solon was sure there were plenty of people who wanted him dead—like the deranged yandere swordswoman or the carefree, remorseless, and unbeatable General of Triumph.

But those two were far too powerful. Their attacks might exceed what even his gold body could handle—one hit and he'd be gone, not just dead, but annihilated.

Among the people he knew, only Qingque's strength was the right match.

Still, he hesitated.

Qingque might seem clueless, but she was actually incredibly sharp. And her background was… problematic. One misstep and he might attract Fu Xuan's attention.

Fu Xuan, the head of the Divination Commission, had access to the Great Divination Matrix and could perform near-omniscient calculations. If she ever picked up on his anomalies… he'd be toast.

Until he had enough strength to match the upper echelons of the Luofu, Solon didn't want any contact with them.

This wasn't something that could be rushed.

For now, he'd stick to simulations and focus on strengthening himself.

Solon laid back onto the sofa in his most comfortable posture.

Then he pulled up his personal stat panel—

He now had five traits:

Accumulated Practice (Blue)

Slaughter Expert (Blue)

Natural Villain (Blue)

Sword-Born (White)

Indestructible Glazed Body (Gold)

A far cry from his pitiful beginner loadout.

Still, he wasn't confident in clearing a mid-level scenario just yet. Especially Feixiao's—of the three scenarios he had unlocked so far, hers had the highest base difficulty.

So Solon decided to draw a new scenario.

A familiar gacha animation played, and a lively orange-haired girl twirling a bright red baton appeared before him—it was Guinaifen.

Solon raised an eyebrow.

Once could be coincidence. Twice, three times… that was no accident.

The system had previously mentioned that characters who appeared nearby would have increased draw rates. Now it seemed that even first encounters boosted those odds.

A useful rule, actually—especially in places like Herta Space Station, where space was tight and NPCs were clustered. By playing to this mechanic, you could draw all the station-related characters quickly.

After leaving the station, you could grind hard with a full roster.

Most characters were manageable—but the one who named the station? That was another story.

Yes, he meant Madam Herta.

"Push when they fall, chase when they run, slap faces, insult thoroughly, and no one can cross me…"

At this point, just stop calling her Herta. Call her Herta the Petty or just tattoo "vindictive" on her forehead.

Getting on the bad side of the abbot? Maybe you'd still have a chance.Getting on the bad side of Herta? You'd better start writing your will.

But back to the point. Solon quickly refocused and began selecting his starting traits.

[Would you like to begin this scenario? (Difficulty: Beginner)]

"Yes."

[Please select two starting traits. One may be permanently retained after the simulation ends.]

Only two picks? That meant this scenario was probably on the easier side.

Solon turned his attention to the list of traits:

Twelve Knights of the Round Table (Gold):A legendary trait born of Arthurian myth. Grants the ability to borrow power from the twelve knights of the Round Table.Hidden condition: unlock the power of King Arthur or the traitor knight Mordred.(Note: This is a beginner-difficulty bonus and cannot be retained after the simulation.)
