Alas, life was full of disappointments.

Suppressing a sigh, he forced a smile. "Don't overthink it. I was just worried you wouldn't go. Your parents might not understand."

Natalie narrowed her eyes. "It might be hard to explain to them—but what about you?"

William's smile faltered for a moment. Then he straightened up. "No one can force you to do anything."

Natalie gave a faint smile and turned away.

Just then, Ashley called.

Natalie put the phone on speaker and handed it to William.

"Natalie, come to the hospital immediately. Your sister's condition is critical…"

Natalie raised her eyebrows and looked at him.

William took the phone. "Mrs. Roberts, if Hailey's condition is that serious, you should be scrambling to find a blood donor. What's the point of calling Natalie? Hasn't she already donated blood to Hailey for years?"

"You—" Ashley recognized his voice. "William, how could you say that? Hailey…"
