Chapter 28 - Boosted Gear
Roy returned to the villa smoothly with no incidents along the way.
"It's said to double the hosts power every ten seconds."
"Let's see how many boosts I can handle"
Back at the living room, he summoned the Longinus.
A fierce, crimson gauntlet encased his right hand..
[Boost!]
With a thought, the gauntlet flared, a low draconic voice echoing from the gauntlet.
[Boost!]X8
Nine boosts resounded, each doubling Roy's strength.
His strength was now beyond what he can remember.
===
Host: Roy Flott
Race: Human
Level: LVL 80 [Ultimate Class] [Temporary]
Replicated Abilities: Hell Fire (C), Kendo Talent (C)
Replicated Items: Boosted Gear (B+)
Dimensional Points: 375,793
Roy checked the system panel.
The Satan Class in parentheses reflected his boosted state, temporary until the effect faded.
"This strength," Roy estimated, gauging his level against the hierarchy.
"The gap is insane. Just around 40-50 level ups, and my strength reached ultimate class."
It made sense.
In the anime, Issei once boosted twelve times, amplifying his strength from low class to high class.
An ultimate class wielded even greater destructive force.
Roy figured a full-powered strike could reduce kilometers of Kuoh Town to rubble, if he ignored collateral damage.
"I could probably handle one or two more boosts, but it'd strain my balance," Roy assessed, feeling his body's limits.
The nine boosts were manageable, within his tolerance.
He maintained the state for 10 minutes before exhaustion hit—not gradually, but like a tidal wave.
"Ugh—!"
Roy collapsed onto the sofa, panting heavily.
Pushing further risked injury, and Roy wasn't reckless enough to harm himself testing the Longinus.
"Ten minutes at ultimate class? Not bad," he said, closing his eyes to recover.
"I need to bolster my base strength," Roy realized.
The Boosted Gear amplified the host's foundation—the stronger it was, the more boosts he could endure, and the longer they'd last.
"Your talent's solid for your age, especially without leaning on the Sacred Gear."
"Among past hosts, you're a tough one," a deep voice rumbled from the gauntlet.
"Ddraig, you're awake?"
Roy shrugged off.
He recognized the speaker: Ddraig, one of the Two Heavenly Dragons sealed in the Boosted Gear.
"Woke up when you took me from that kid," Ddraig replied.
"How's the new host feel?" Roy asked.
"A novel experience, being transplanted like this," Ddraig said.
Historically, the Boosted Gear passed to a new host only after the previous host's death.
Roy's extraction was a first.
"But you're a step up from that boy," Ddraig added, frustration evident.
"I've been in him for years, and he never awakened me."
"I wondered if I'd sleep until he died of old age."
Past Red Dragon Emperor's were legends, awakening the Longinus early and dominating battlefields.
Issei, however, showed no signs of awakening, earning Ddraig's scorn as the most lackluster host ever.
Roy chuckled. Issei's raw potential was lackluster, but his unique fixation—his obsession with a certain ideal—fueled his eventual rise as the strongest host.
Sacred Gears drew power from the host's convictions, and Issei's fixation, however bizarre, perfectly synced with the Boosted Gear's nature.
Roy doubted he could match Issei's sheer drive in that regard.
His own motivations lacked that singular, intense focus.
"We're partners now, Ddraig. Let's make it count," Roy said, smiling.
"Looking forward to it, partner," Ddraig replied.
While not fully sold on Roy—whose acquisition of the Longinus was unorthodox—he vastly preferred him over Issei.
