Chapter 47 - The Girl Who Can See Ghosts!

[Mundane Renji]: [Sigh, getting a lottery chance in this world is really tough!]

After completing his first performance, Renji had assumed that changing the plot—at least by stopping Cat's Eye from stealing the Queen's Tear—would earn him another lottery draw.

Ever since he drew the Magic Physique, he had been looking forward to the next draw. Unfortunately, it seemed this change wasn't significant enough to qualify.

[Naruto Renji]: [A major change… maybe if you eliminated Cat's Eye completely, that would count.]

[One Piece Renji]: [Just get rid of Conan. That'd absolutely be considered a major event.]

In the Detective Conan world, time itself was a mess because of Conan. Removing him would definitely count as a major shift.

[Yokai Renji]: [Go after the heroines. You've got so many over there—each one counts as altering the story.]

Honestly, the mundane world was the easiest to influence.

Just changing the fates of the girls around him could earn him tons of rewards—way easier than in their worlds.

If his world had as many supernatural powers as theirs, all the changes he could make would already be enough to earn massive benefits.

[Mundane Renji]: [You're right. Come to think of it, I've finally figured out my path. This feeling of being in the spotlight is amazing.]

In the mundane world, after gaining supernatural powers, Renji had been a bit lost.

But now, he understood what he truly wanted in this world.

[Zombie Renji]: [A dream, huh?]

Kind of like how he wanted to revive the Divine Firmament Sect.

At first, that hadn't been his dream. But once the Divine Firmament Sect declined and he became its head, a sense of responsibility was thrust upon him.

Among all the Renjis in the chat group, everyone knew it—only the Renji in the mundane world lacked a goal, especially after gaining power.

[King of Fighters Renji]: [Bro, stop rambling and help me finish training the Eight Gates. We're on the third gate—push harder and get all eight unlocked!]

Ever since he put Mai Shiranui in her place, he'd realized just how crucial power was.

Especially the stunned look on her face—she'd been overpowering him the day before, and suddenly the next day he had her pinned. She still couldn't figure out what had happened.

And with threats like Orochi lurking in his world, if he didn't train, he'd soon be irrelevant.

[Mundane Renji]: [Alright, I've got a request to handle first. I'll train afterward.]

In the backend of the Yorozuya app, there were already thousands of registered users. But most were just browsing, with barely any messages left.

Some people did leave requests, but they were mostly absurd—like paying him to beat up a third-year student for bullying them, or offering cash to take revenge on someone's bleach-blond mother.

What the hell!?

Renji stared wide-eyed at one such request. He hesitated for quite a while before ultimately rejecting it. His moral baseline triumphed over his inner wickedness!

He wasn't that kind of guy! Definitely not rejecting it just because of the photo!

[Do you believe in ghosts?]

One message instantly caught Renji's attention.

Ghosts?

Renji had never seen one himself. But considering how his world had merged with so many others, including those with magic, he was even ready to believe in dragon girls.

[So... did you encounter one?]

Renji replied out of curiosity.

Since the person was asking so seriously, he figured they must've experienced something real. He wanted to know more.

[I did. So do you believe ghosts really exist?]

[I do.]

On the other side of the Yorozuya app—

Yotsuya Miko's eyes lit up with excitement. But in the next moment, a twinge of hesitation crept into her heart.

Even though Renji believed her, she was still afraid. Miko knew that once a ghost realized she could see it, she'd be in danger.

She couldn't be sure the person behind the app was even human.

[Then what do you think someone should do if they're haunted by a ghost?]

Miko forced down her excitement and continued to probe.

[Kill it.]

Huh?

You can kill ghosts?

Miko froze. She had expected him to say something like, "Pretend you don't see it."

If he had, she would've assumed he was like her—able to see spirits but helpless to deal with them. But Renji's response wasn't what she'd expected.

[So... ghosts can really be defeated?]

Miko's excitement could no longer be hidden. If ghosts could be eliminated... then maybe she could too?

Was there a method?

[Of course. If you have the ability to defeat a ghost, then you can defeat a ghost.]

Seriously?

Miko muttered to herself, but at the same time, she began to hesitate. Should she ask for help?

[Do you need assistance? If you want me to help, there will be a fee. The fee depends on the difficulty of the task. Once I accept the job, even if you change your mind later, you still have to pay.]

Whether or not there were ghosts, once Renji accepted a commission, the contract was binding.

Whether he completed it or not, the requester had to pay.

The only difference was whether the task got resolved.

Reading his reply, Miko quietly wondered—money?

She had some pocket money… but would it be enough?

[Can you really solve it?]

[Of course. If I can't, I won't take a cent.]

Ghosts, huh?

With all the abilities Renji had, he could wipe them out easily. And even if he didn't use his own powers, he could just borrow a Zanpakutō from Bleach Renji and clean house with ease.

Besides, he'd never seen a ghost before.

If there really were ghosts in this world... that would be pretty fun.

Renji actually found himself a little interested in this commission.

[Are you available now?]

After hesitating for a moment, Yotsuya Miko decided to take a chance and trust the other party.

Surely no ghost would be bored enough to create an app just to lure her into a trap, right?

And judging by the way the other side spoke, it really sounded like this person had some ability.

[Of course. Send me your location, or you can come to my office. We can talk face-to-face!]

After agreeing on a meeting spot, Miko chose a café. She didn't have the courage to go to his office directly. Though she had considered visiting a shrine before, thinking maybe gods or spiritualists existed to deal with ghosts—especially since ghosts were real—today she had stumbled across the Yorozuya app and downloaded it out of curiosity.

Maybe, just maybe, someone there could really help her.

At the café—

Miko glanced nervously at the people passing by one after another.

"Sorry I'm late! Got caught in traffic. You didn't wait too long, did you? You're the one who contacted me, right?"

Renji scratched the back of his head with a sheepish smile as he approached the girl sitting alone. Sure, he could've used the Goro Goro no Mi to teleport, but as someone from the mundane world, he actually enjoyed commuting like a regular person.

So… yeah, he got stuck in traffic.

When he arrived and saw someone already waiting, he guessed it must be her.

"No worries, I just got here too."

Miko turned around and looked at Renji. After confirming he didn't look too unusual, she relaxed and quickly stood up to greet him politely.

Truthfully, she hadn't been there long either. She had been nervous coming here, but since they had already arranged the meeting, there was no turning back.

"Yotsuya Miko? The girl who can see ghosts?"

Renji's eyes briefly widened in shock before quickly returning to normal—but inwardly, he was thrilled.

This so-called normal world... might not be so normal after all. It seemed there was more to it—things he could look forward to.

If this had happened to him before, he might've wanted to die. There were already shinigami—now there were ghosts too? Nowhere would be safe. But now? Now it was fun!

[Mundane Renji]: [Yotsuya Miko!! Yotsuya Miko!! Looks like my world really does have supernatural power!]

Interesting. Incredibly interesting!

[Zombie Renji]: [Please draw the "Yin-Yang Eyes"! Let us draw Miko's spiritual sight!]

This—this was what you called a pleasant surprise!

Sure, you could use daoist techniques or other methods to see ghosts, but not having Yin-Yang Eyes did make it trickier.

If an ordinary person had them, it would be overwhelming, like with Miko. But if a cultivator had them, it would be a massive advantage. Yin-Yang Eyes enhanced one's spiritual cultivation considerably.

[Mundane Renji]: [So is it considered an ability or a constitution?]

[Zombie Renji]: [Both, actually. If you get it through the lottery, it'll most likely be registered as an ability.]

[One Piece Renji]: [So do the eyes from the Bleach world count as Yin-Yang Eyes?]

After all, everything in the Bleach world is spirit-based. Shouldn't that count?

[Zombie Renji]: [Not the same. The shinigami in the Bleach world and the ghosts in our worlds are fundamentally different. Mundane Renji couldn't see ghosts before not because they weren't there, but because he lacked the ability—or specifically, the Yin-Yang Eyes. He might've been able to sense magnetic anomalies, but ghosts are made of resentment and negative energy. Prolonged exposure affects humans. That kind of effect doesn't exist in the Bleach world.]

Different worlds meant different rules—and naturally, different systems of power.

[Mundane Renji]: [I'll try. It's not like I definitely can't see them—I just haven't encountered them before. Once I do, we'll find out.]

[Bleach Renji]: [Use my power. You'll be able to see them. The composition might differ, but seeing ghosts is easy.]

[Zombie Renji]: [Exactly. You can see them, but it takes constant effort. If you can draw the Yin-Yang Eyes, killing ghosts will be much easier!]

At the end of the day, a shinigami was like a daoist. Even if the systems were different, as long as you could see it, you could deal with it.

[Zombie Renji]: [Here's some ox tears. Rub them on your eyes and you'll see ghosts. You can also use other powers—maybe your magic physique works too. Perhaps I was overthinking it before. Maybe you just never had the chance to meet a ghost.]

Maybe he had indeed been overthinking it.

[Mundane Renji]: [Alright, I'll finish this task first. Then I'll keep investigating. With Miko here, maybe all those urban legends from our world are real too—Tomie, Sadako, Kayako, Hachishaku-sama... Maybe I really did underestimate this world!]

After exiting the chat, Renji was still buzzing with excitement.

Using the power of a shinigami did let him see spirits, but he personally preferred the ox tear method—no energy required.

"Sorry, I spaced out for a second. So, you're the one who can see ghosts?"

"Mm... do you have any way to deal with them?"

Miko nodded slightly, studying Renji. Her concern deepened.

He looked so young.

He might even be the same age as her.

Could he really handle ghosts?

What if he turned out to have no powers and couldn't even see them? If she took him along to deal with one, she might end up getting both of them killed.

"There is a way—but it's only a temporary fix. Because the problem lies in your eyes, right? Once a ghost realizes you can see them, they'll target you. The real issue isn't the ghosts—it's your eyes."

Since he knew the story and understood Miko's situation, Renji didn't hide anything. He laid it all out.

Miko's biggest problem was her spiritual sight. If the rule in Detective Conan was timeline chaos, then in Miko's world, it was the existence of forces foreign to the world—ghosts.

Normally invisible, they could be seen only by someone who awakened the Yin-Yang Eyes. But once awakened, the user had to pretend not to see—because revealing that you could would be dangerous.

After hearing Renji's words, Miko suddenly stood up from her seat.

He was right.

Everything weird that had happened to her lately was because of her eyes.

Ever since she started seeing ghosts, her life had been turned upside down.

She had been doing everything she could to hide it.

But she also knew—that couldn't last forever. It's not like she could gouge her eyes out, right?

And yet this man had just pinpointed her exact predicament. Miko's hope rose.

He could really help her... couldn't he?

Taking a deep breath, Miko looked at Renji, eyes filled with tension, and asked,

"So... do you have a way to help me get rid of this problem?!"
