"May I come in?" With three soft knocks on the door of the dressing room, Rey's baritone voice came through and the staff helping Mia out moved forward to usher him in.
"Sir, this way, please," She said, smiling gracefully, displaying her perfect white dentition, as she directed him to where Mia stood, facing her back to them.
The way his aura filled the room and drowned Mia's senses was something she couldn't phantom. The familiar scent of his perfume weakened her knees, and it was almost a struggle to turn towards him without doing so awkwardly.
His eyes scanned her curves, gulping the way the dress outlined her hourglass figure, lingering a little around her breasts before meeting her eyes.
Their eyes locked in such a way that made it a little hard to breathe. It felt as though his eyes pierced into her skin, watching every movement she made or they could read her thoughts if she continued staring.
She could sense his confidence and unweathering demeanor as his gaze grew intense.
Did he feel it too? The way the room suddenly felt too hot and too small in the attentiveness of his eyes. Those eyes. Lord!
"Uhmm, H- how is the dress?" Mia said, her voice quivering as little as she spoke.
He was still staring wordlessly at her with an expressionless face like he always did, keeping her vague of his feelings. She wondered if it was disappointment that she rejected such an expensive item, or was it that he didn't find the dress so much of a perfect fit for her?
Her eyes wandered across the room to where Rey stood in hopes of an answer, but instead, he started taking gradual steps towards her and dropped his fingers into the sides of his trousers.
"I...I think the dress might be a bit too expensive," Her voice trailed off, as though the fact that he was closing the space between them suddenly numbed the effect of her speech.
He leaned closer and a little closer, his scent distorting her thoughts as he hovered a few inches away from her, close enough that if she stuck out her chest a little, she'd touch his.
"Gorgeous," He whispered, the word rolling off his tongue, so fine-toned, like it was meant for her ears alone. It was so hard to look away as much as Mia tried. Her lips parted but the words refused to form.
"Sir, I think I'd step out for a bit—" The staff watching them felt she needed to give them some space.
"No. You can stay," He said, backing away with his eyes still on Mia's.
"This must be part of the wardrobe. Kindly pack it." He stated calmly, turning away from Mia as he nodded at the staff before moving towards the door, a smirk escaping the cracks of his cold expression.
"Okay, Sir," The staff replied with a grin as she walked towards Mia, who was still trying so hard to settle her breathing which was almost hyperventilating.
"Are you okay?" The staff asked, furrowing her brows with concern.
"We have a clinic on this floor. We could get assistance if you need help."
"Oh, no!" Mia chuckled, waving her left hand, "You worry too much; I'm fine." She said, straightening up with a smile.
"So why don't we get me out of this first? There are still lots of clothes to try," She said, motioning towards the roll of clothes.
"And please, don't call him," she added almost immediately with pleading eyes.
A few minutes later, Mia and Rey were out of the store, just after he exchanged goodbyes with the company's president and got some diamond necklaces for Mia. He opened the door for her as soon as they reached his car, immediately feeling a sense of pride as some passers-by chatted in low voices in recognition.
"Isn't that Reynold Davies?" One of the ladies said, with a cup of coffee in her hand.
"Yeah, that's him. Oh, my days! He's so hot!"
"I bet she's lucky!" The other lady giggled in awe as Rey drove past them.
The silence of the drive was only broken by the honking of a few vehicles behind Rey's at consecutive times. They hadn't said a word since Rey fixed her seatbelt. She was replaying the little—probably imagined—intimacy of that moment.
How his forearms flexed beneath his shirt, as he pulled his sleeves upwards. The mincing and mix-up of silly thoughts she had when he locked her gaze, slowly covering the distance between them, melting her inside into a hot, gooey mess.
The proximity between them when he adjusted her seat and pulled it closer, feeling his breath pouring warmly near the nape of her neck, making her blood ripple with chills. The involuntary somersault and flips her heart did in the awareness of his skin lightly brushing hers as he reached across her.
Through the corner of his eyes, he stared at Mia, watching her fidgety fingers and the restless movements of her feet as she stared out the window. He steadied his gaze back the highway and without warning, he made a swift turn. In a swerve, Mia jerked, holding tight onto her seatbelt, giving Rey a questioning look with her widened eyes.
"I- I think you made a mistake here, Sir. This isn't the way home. It's supposed to be that way," she said, as-a-matter-of-fact-ly.
"Sir, please where are we going? I- I feel—"
"A little scared? Or insecure with me?"
"Oh no! I didn't mean it that way."
"Or you think I'd try to do something silly?"
"No... definitely not."
"Where are we going, Sir?" Mia asked, furrowing her brows and lines of crinkles forming at her face.
"Just wait, you'll see." He said, glancing at her and looking back at the road.
"Don't tell me you still feel unsafe around me?"
"It's not that I don't feel safe. I— I just felt a little strange when you suddenly made a turn," She said, avoiding his eyes.
"I don't care if you do. We are set on business, and If this contract must be a success, you just have to get used to having me around and invading your personal space, especially when we're out in public or with my parents." His statement did feel valid enough to her. She had probably exaggerated what happened earlier. She bit her lower lip and closed her eyes in embarrassment.
"Okay, Sir," she said, almost in a whisper. He was so right but it felt so wrong.
"Sir?" He asked, narrowing his gaze.
"Oh... I'm sorry, Mr. Reynold."
"Mr. Reynold?" His brows rose.
"Uhm....R- Rey," She finally said, looking away awkwardly. So much for business, sigh.
Rey glanced at her, noticing her absent-mindedness.
Motioning forward, he tuned in to Taylor Swift's Enchanted, which came softly, filling the silence, as the car drove into another street. Where on earth was he taking her?
