Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: 682 Containment Breach? Face to Face With the Immortal Evil Lizard

"Immortal Evil Lizard?"

When everyone in the Marvel world saw the name of the next anomaly being introduced on the screen, they were stunned into silence.

"What the hell is the Immortal Evil Lizard? A... lizard?"

"Last time it was a sentient statue. Now it's a lizard? This just keeps getting more bizarre."

"The Immortal Evil Lizard... Could it mean its anomalous trait is actually immortality?"

"No way. There's no such thing as true immortality in the universe, right?"

"······"

The live comment section across all platforms was flooded with confusion, skepticism, and growing concern.

Kamar-Taj, Nepal

Inside the ancient sanctum, the sorcerers were all gathered around the magical screen, viewing the SCP archives with grave expressions. One apprentice couldn't help but ask:

"Master... Sorcerer Supreme, are there truly immortal beings in the universe?"

The Ancient One looked at the screen, her expression unreadable. She was silent for a moment, as if weighing the implications of her words. Finally, she replied with a vague but ominous tone:

"The universe is vast—so vast that we can't claim to understand all of it. In such an endless sea of possibilities... nothing is impossible."

Her voice sent a chill down the apprentices' spines.

Meanwhile, more and more classified information began to appear on the screen.

[Item #: SCP-682]

[Object Class: Keter]

Back in S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters, Director Nick Fury squinted at the words.

"Keter… There's another classification? So this one's even more dangerous than before."

He tapped his fingers on the desk, processing the implications.

"682… Does that mean it's the 682nd anomaly they've contained?"

The file continued to update.

[Special Containment Procedures: SCP-682 must be destroyed as soon as possible.]

[Currently, the SCP team is unable to destroy SCP-682 and can only inflict massive physical damage to it.]

[SCP-682 is to be contained in a 5m x 5m x 5m chamber, lined with 25cm thick reinforced acid-resistant steel plates.]

[The containment chamber must be filled with hydrochloric acid, submerging SCP-682 completely and rendering it incapable of resistance.]

[If SCP-682 attempts to move, speak, or breach containment, immediate and full-force response is mandatory.]

The room fell silent.

Not just in S.H.I.E.L.D., but across the world, the viewers watching the broadcast froze.

All the arguing and speculation came to a halt as the reality sank in.

People finally realized that this wasn't just some sci-fi hoax or an overhyped anomaly.

This was real.

[Description: SCP-682 is a large, reptilian creature of unknown origin. It demonstrates incredibly high intelligence, as seen during interactions with SCP-079, where it engaged in complex conversations.]

[SCP-682 expresses extreme hatred toward all forms of life, as confirmed in multiple interviews and testing sessions.]

[It possesses extraordinary strength, speed, and reaction time, though these attributes seem to shift based on its current form.]

[SCP-682's body changes rapidly. It can grow or shrink in size depending on environmental stimuli or consumed materials.]

[It is capable of deriving energy from both organic and inorganic matter.]

[Its nostrils contain filtering gills that extract nutrients even from corrosive solutions like acid.]

[Its regenerative capabilities are phenomenal. Even when 87% of its body mass is destroyed, SCP-682 can still move, regenerate, and even speak.]

By the time the last line faded from the screen, the entire Marvel Universe fell into stunned silence.

Then—BOOM!

The livestream exploded with activity.

"What the hell is this?!"

"Is this some kind of nightmare? Tell me I'm dreaming!"

"That's not just regeneration. That's... that's immortality!"

"This thing can survive being submerged in acid, regenerate even when nearly annihilated, and continues to grow stronger by eating anything?!"

"This is insanity!"

All over the world, fear began to spread. Governments, agencies, superhero teams—all watched in disbelief as the reality of this "Immortal Evil Lizard" hit them like a freight train.

And the chaos didn't end there.

Extraordinary Chat Group

[Tony Stark]:

Oh, hell. Immortality? This is beyond outrageous.

[Steve Rogers]:

It's not just immortality. The damn thing's intelligent. That's the real danger.

[Deadpool]:

Well, look at that. I thought I was the only immortal freak out there. Guess I've got company. Sad it's a lizard, though. And no, I don't mean Ah San.

Back in S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury's thoughts began racing.

They had mutants who could heal rapidly—like Wolverine and Deadpool. Limbs grew back. Wounds closed in seconds.

But that was different.

This creature didn't just regenerate—it refused to die. No amount of damage worked. Every known attempt had failed.

Even more terrifying was the rage.

SCP-682 hated life. All life.

The kind of hatred that transcended reason or origin.

This wasn't just a threat.

It was a potential extinction-level event.

Nick Fury crossed his arms, his one eye narrowing.

"What kind of mission could James possibly receive after this?"

Back on the screen...

Inside a sterile room, a man in a white lab coat stood in front of James, looking somber yet composed.

Behind them was a giant reinforced screen showing the containment site of SCP-682.

The man gestured toward it.

"As you can see, 682 is a lizard. A very hard-to-kill lizard that we've been trying—and failing—to destroy for a long time."

He paced slowly, then continued:

"Acid baths, high-voltage electrocution, industrial lasers, vacuum exposure, poisoning, fire, mutilation... even other anomalies have been used against it."

He shook his head in frustration.

"All we've succeeded in doing is making it hate humanity even more."

James listened without emotion. His face was unreadable.

The viewers, however, were a different story. People across the Marvel Universe were now pale with sweat dripping down their foreheads. Some felt sick just imagining such a creature on the loose.

The scientist noticed James's calm demeanor and gave him a nod of approval.

"Unfortunately," he said grimly, "this immortal creature—this living weapon—escaped from a neighboring site an hour ago."

There was a beat of silence before he dropped the bombshell.

"It killed more than a hundred people before leaving the premises."

Then, almost casually, he added:

"Yes. SCP-682 has breached containment."

"And your mission... is to assist the Foundation in recapturing it."

SILENCE.

As those final words were spoken, the brains of everyone watching went completely blank.

They couldn't believe what they had just heard.

Not only was such a monster real, not only had it breached containment—but James, a regular human, had been chosen to confront it?

"ARE YOU INSANE?"

People in the chat exploded in disbelief.

"This thing broke out of a high-security site!"

"It slaughtered a hundred people!"

"And you're sending him to face it? Alone?!"

"No disrespect to James, but he's just a human! This is suicide!"

Even powerful figures like Doctor Strange, Thor, and Hulk couldn't believe it.

But before the outrage could continue...

A voice—low, steady, and resolute—cut through the chaos like a blade.

"Clear."

James answered without hesitation.

His tone was calm, almost indifferent, but filled with unshakable resolve.

For a moment, the world stood still.

Everyone—heroes, villains, soldiers, scientists—froze as they heard his reply.

He had accepted the mission.

Not out of ignorance. Not out of arrogance.

But out of duty.

Out of a sense of purpose.

James, the man who had faced gods and monsters alike, was now walking into the jaws of something potentially worse than death.

Kamar-Taj.

The Ancient One smiled faintly.

"Interesting."

Stark Tower.

Tony Stark leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowed.

"Alright, James… Let's see how deep this rabbit hole goes."

S.H.I.E.L.D.

Nick Fury smirked under his breath.

"This kid's either crazy... or the most dangerous man in the room."

Across the Marvel Universe, tension reached a boiling point.

The Immortal Evil Lizard had breached containment.

And James...

James was walking straight toward it.

Alone.

To be continued.
