Another week passed.
Could Ellis say that many things happened during it?
Not really.
But did he come to understand many things?
Yes.
Two particular events occurred, after all. And perhaps they could even be combined with his growing understanding and counted as one.
It happened while he was concentrating, trying to enter that elusive state of a clear mind. At that moment, Silas, the new maid, who had been away for a while, finally returned.
Her expression was downcast.
As always, she greeted him formally and humbly. But this time, after the usual pleasantries… or at least what he assumed her words to be, she delivered some news.
Of course, he still didn't understand her words.
But when she repeated herself a few times and pointed her small, dainty finger at him, he finally grasped what she was trying to convey.
A name.
His name.
Adrian Reid Valemere.
And as even his status window affirmed it, there was no room for doubt.
He had a name now, and that was all good and well. But what was the problem with her expression?
While he began forming all kinds of conjectures and theories in his mind, before he could narrow them down, the next day brought an unexpected turn of events. They left the luxurious palace like place, he had barely spent ten days in, relocating to a much shabbier one—with only his voluptuous, beautiful maid accompanying him.
And that was when he finally confirmed it... He was probably deemed talentless.
And abandoned.
He was a piece of trash not worth investing in.
But could that really be true?
Impossible.
With his system and his ability, Ephemeral Soul Genesis, there was no possible way he was truly talentless. If anything, this only proved that this world's level of power wasn't that high—they couldn't even perceive his situation. His brilliance.
Ellis felt relieved by this fact, but at the same time, he feared dealing with their ignorance would become an annoyance. Fortunately, that didn't seem to be the case, especially with how remote this palace appeared to be.
Still, he needed to keep looking into this matter.
That was what had happened.
Then, what about what he understood?
When Ellis analyzed everything that had happened to him since the day he arrived in this world—the hysterical reaction of his new "mother," the bad results of what was likely a talent test conducted by a magician, the complete absence of a father figure, the peculiar behavior of the maid, and finally, his long name… or at least what felt long to him—he came to a conclusion.
He was probably born in a noble family, a high ranking one at that… possibly even a royalty.
As for the woman who had given birth to him, she was likely an abandoned concubine… one who had been waiting for a miraculous comeback through a talented son, only to end up with disappointment when she got the "failure" that was him.
Naturally, Ellis wasn't bothered by that. He had no obligation to meet her expectations.
But still… he felt a sense of debt.
She had given birth to his current body, after all. So, regardless of her attitude, if he had the chance in the future, he planned to at least repay her in some way—whether by improving her status or bettering her living conditions.
All of that aside, his current situation—as in, the life of nobility—was pretty convenient.
Especially for later.
After all, what could possibly be better for someone like him, someone who wanted to learn magic? Being born into this place was nothing short of a stroke of luck. He would have access to resources, knowledge, and, hopefully, a peaceful environment where he could focus entirely on his training.
That being said, there was also something that worried him.
His likely siblings.
Or other people who might take an interest in him.
Hopefully, there wouldn't be anyone who cared enough to bother him here.
And he would be left alone. Left to train, to become powerful… to become the strongest, all on his own, here!
… If there was an advantage to being in a noble family, and then abandoned at that, but still receiving some level of resources and had no expectations placed upon him, then there was also a downside to his current lifestyle.
Because despite how shabby this palace was, it was still vast, far too big for just two people, a single adult and a baby, to live in. Maintaining it took time. Too much time.
And that was why Ellis had started seeing Silas less and less.
She was simply too busy.
A part of him felt pity for her.
But another part of him… was at a loss.
Because to him, her presence in the room… her beautiful presence, was far more important than the state of the palace. What use was taking care of a place he barely saw, a place that was supposed to be "his," when she should have been taking care of him instead?
That was what truly mattered.
She should have just focused on him.
All she needed to do was keep him in her mind.
Because she was "his" maid, after all!
