Chapter 2 - 2: Skill Selection

Klaus was expecting to be in either hell or heaven, but he was dumbfounded when he opened his eyes in a place filled with darkness.

'What is this place? Why can't I even die peacefully?'

Klaus had this thought surfaced in his find. He felt like flying in this place but he couldn't move even slightly from his position.

'Is this really Afterlife? It's so dark in here. Those cultists bastards preached that heaven is all about fun but this is so bland.'

Klaus cursed untill he felt himself cooling down. When he calmed down, he looked at the darkness and shouted

"OOOOOOOO"

Seeing that his voice didn't echoed, he eliminated his thought about being in a closed space.

''am i kidnapped? But that can't happen as I died."

Klaus was generating different possible scenarios in his mind for his current predicament. But none of them made sense.

After trying everything, Klaus gave up trying to discern the identity of this place and looked at the dark darkness with stern eyes and said

"What the fuck are you?"

Klaus expected silence but contrary to his expectations, a voice came into response.

"Finally calmed down eh?"

Klaus was startled and started sweating nervously as he asked with respect oozing out in his words

"Who are you, esteemed senior?"

"Oh, not going to curse me now?" Said the voice

Klaus panicked and gulped his dry throat nervously as he decided to not antagonise the voice and replied

"I wouldn't dare, senior. Which idiot can curse a kind and magnificent entity like you."

"That idiot was you a while ago" the voice said, a hint of amusement in it.

"I was naive, senior. Please punish me for my actions." Klaus said panicking

"Save your bootlicking for someone else." The voice said and klaus scratched his cheek wrily.

"What does senior wants from me to reveal your magnificent self to me?" Klaus asked as he continued with his buttery words.

"Haha, you wanna talk about business huh? Well whatever. I have come here because I was bored!" Said the so called senior.

'Has he gone nuts?'

Klaus had this thought instantly after hearing those words but quickly dispelled them as he feared that the entity might hear them.

"I don't understand, senior" Klaus said respectfully

" Well, count yourself lucky as I noticed you when I was transversing from this void and was pretty bored. Therefore I would like to give you a second chance at life." The senior said

"Yes. Yes. You are going to give me a second life. I understand- WHAAAAATTTT?" Klaus said but later realised the weight of those words and exclaimed

"are you trying to make me deaf by shouting that loud? Anyway, you heard it right. You are going to live again." The senior said

"But why? I didn't do anything worth mentioning in this life." Klaus said truthfully

"Look kid, it's not about your deeds. It's about me being bored and needing some entertainment." The senior said

Klaus asked one last thing before he gave in

"Senior, you must be someone omnipotent to give chances like this to everyone!"

"Nah kid, you can become like me too if you have power. And you're the first one I'm going to try my powers on. Therefore you should be honoured." The senior said while with a hint of proudness in his voice.

"Yes. Yes. I'm honoured to be the first on- WHAAAATTTT?" klaus had this moment again and quickly asked

"What do you mean first? Didn't you use them on people before me? What if something goes wrong?" Klaus asked a barrage of questions in a very short time.

"What do you mean before? You are the first one to come here. And even if something goes wrong, then what? You're already dead." The senior said

"Well you're not wrong but I want something before I proceed." Klaus demanded hopefully

"I'm listening" the senior's amused voice rang

Seeing that the senior agreed, Klaus breathed in deeply and said

" I want OP skills like those main characters in the novels I read. I'm risking my life on this and I at least deserve some skills in case things go wrong."

The senior didn't found any faults in his logic as anyone would demand a thing or two for putting their life on the line. Hence he agreed

"Okay I will give you 1 skill. Not a single more."

Klaus felt something was missing and added

"I want to know all the grades of skills and the right to choose the skill."

"Seems like you're not an idiot. Good. Good. It will just bring me more entertainment. Okay I agree." The senior said and started his explanation about the grades and options he was going to give

"There are many 9 grades of skills. Namely

[Violet]

[Indigo]

[Blue]

[Green]

[Yellow]

[Orange]

[Red]

With [Red] being the strongest and [Violet] being the weakest."

"All The grades are divided based on the power level the skill can exhibit."

Klaus nodded vigorously during this explanation and waited for his options to be presented.

"I will give you three choices of which you can only choose one."

Klaus saw three parchments appear in front of him when the senior's voice ended. He proceeded to open all the parchments and started reading their description.

_______

1. Content Control (Blue): The definition of content is defined by the user. Become the monarch of endless possibilities it carries within itself.

2. One Shot (Red): Become an adjucator in an area of about 200m and gain the power to end the life of a living being in that area instantly.

3. Skill Copy (Orange): Gain the ability to copy one skill at a given time.Become a mimic and rain the same Abilities your enemies used on you.

_______

Klaus looked at the three skills in the parchment and was dumbfounded looking at the grades and description of those skills.

Firstly, The One Shot was a totally broken skill despite its range limitation. To kill any living being in an area instantly could save his life in critical moments.

Secondly, The Skill Copy shouldn't even exist as this alone can take a person at the top of the food chain in an instant.

Lastly, Klaus didn't understand the usage of Content Control from it's description and didn't have high expectations from it considering it's grade. But he still decided to ask his doubts regarding these abilities to the senior.

"Senior, what are the limitations of Skill Copy and One Shot?"

Klaus knew that broken skills like these shouldn't exist and there must be a catch if the senior is giving them to him. After all, there ain't no saint and the senior has no reason to be one.

"You really are cunning as I thought. If it was someone else, they would've taken the skill right after seeing its grade, thinking of it as something broken."

"Yes, you guessed it right. These skills can only be activated on people having lower rank than you and there is a long cooldown period after every use which could last years in certain cases."

Klaus was listening very attentively and posed a question

"Senior, what is a rank?"

Klein could feel the senior's gaze on him filled with pity. The next moment his voice rang

"You really are ignorant.."

Klaus felt like a frog in a well after hearing those words but the senior continued

"The rank of an individual is synonymous to the highest grade skill a individual has on them. The rank is further broken into three levels based on the number of highest grade skill a individual possession. Level 1 refers to 1 skill, level 2 refers to 2 skills and level 3 refers to more than 2 skills of the highest grade."

"For example, suppose a person has skills 5 skills, two of them are [Yellow] Rank and the rest are [Green] Rank. Then that individual shall be called a level 2 [Yellow] Rank person."

Klaus felt his eyes opening in understanding after listening to all the new intel he got from the senior. But there was still one thing he didn't knew, therefore he asked about it.

"Senior, what is this Content Control? I can't understand even a thing from it's description."

Klaus looked at the parchment holding that particular skill while asking the question and all he got in response was a sigh.

"Well I don't know, no one in this universe knows. This skill was found in a ancient ruins belonging to the demons. The person who founded it couldn't understand it's usage and decided to sell it."

"Later on, this skill found its way in many hands but none of them could unearth even a minute details about it. Hence it was classified as an [Blue]-grade in the end."

"I just included it because I am it's current owner and it was rotting in my storage from thousands of years."

Klaus felt his mind spin when he heard about the skill. The thought that no one in the universe knew about that skill made it very special in his eyes as no one would know about its weakness too.

Klaus has always been fascinated by the working of brain and after looking at the word 'control' in the ability, he couldn't help but link it to the brain's workings. The thought excited him to no end.

Amidst his thoughts, the senior's voice rang in his mind.

"So..which one do you choose?"

Klaus didn't hesitate and made his decision. His hands rose up and made his way towards the three parchments. The senior was also looking amusely at his choice but his expression slowly crumbled when he noticed Klaus's hand go past two parchments and grabbing the third one.

The words written on it read

[Content Control]
