|3rd POV|
Sienna Khan looks at the cloud of dust in the distance with a frown on her face. Her scouts encounter a massive group of Grimm migrating from the west of Kuo Kuana. Grimm migration is always something they fear.
Every once in a while, a group of Grimm will move from one place to another for whatever reason, and depending on their migration, they need to prepare to fight them all.
And this group is approaching here. The scout informs her that there are at least a hundred Grimm of Medium to Large size. They will arrive here in twenty minutes and must prepare to fight them.
However, there is a key thing she needs to watch out for. The scouts tell her the first one is ten Beringel, the Grappling Grimm. That means they must watch out for them climbing the wall around Kuo Kuana. The second one is two medium-sized Nevermore. That means they must watch out for the air raid from Nevermore.
The only good thing is that there is no Sandeater that can dig through the ground and arrive in the middle of the city this time. Sandeater is a Grimm that can eat a lot of sand and swim underground to reach the other side of the wall. The only upside is that they can only eat a certain amount of sand and usually stay above ground, making it easy to notice, so that they can prepare for their presence on the battlefield.
"Sorry for the wait."
She snaps from her thoughts and looks to the side. She blinks for a second when she sees Orin and a group of her people walking toward her.
"Orin? What are you doing here?"
"Ah, I am here to test the new goods."
Orin nods to the others, and they put down all kinds of weapons she has never seen before.
"These weapons do not require dust, and they do not require reloading. You only need to watch out for heating, but don't worry, I put a cooling system inside them so they cool quickly. They need to cool for a couple of seconds, and you can shoot them once again."
She can only gape at Orin and at the new weapons he creates, but she decides to question him later. She needs to focus on the Grimm in front of her.
"So you want to test them on the Grimm?"
"Yup, and this is the perfect time for it."
"How much is the range of each of them?"
"It will take time to explain them in detail, but the lowest range is 320 meters. Some of them have longer ranges, but 320 meters is the safe zone for all of them."
"I understand. How to use them? Is it like regular weapons?"
"Yup. I ensure it is as close as possible to our weapons."
"Perfect!"
Sienna looks at the others and shouts.
"You guys! Take the weapons and test them."
Without asking anything, they take the weapons and test the weight in their hands. While they are testing the weapons, Sienna looks at Orin, or rather, the floating drone above him.
"Orin, what is that?"
"Hmmm? This one? This is the GREMLIN Mark III, or a Combat Drone. It can support any personnel it accompanies. It can heal others using nanites, scout a long distance, and attack targets using a plasma rifle mounted inside the drone."
Orin shows her a weird-looking device around his left arm, and a hologram appears above the device a second later.
"This is the Portable Hard-Light Computer I made. This will be the monitor to watch the drone's footage and how I give orders to it. It has a VI or Virtual Intelligence, a dumber version of an AI, that can carry out your order without direction, but it is not good enough for me to trust it just yet."
Sienna can only release a sigh at what Orin is saying and decides to put what he is saying in her 'Orin's Thing' folder in his mind. For now, she focuses on the Grimm charging at them as they notice living beings.
"In coming!"
Sienna shouts, and the others move with their weapons in hand. When they reach their range, the people open fire. Orin also orders his Gremlin to open fire alongside the others and watch the effect of his gun.
He grins a little at the sight of his weapons being effective against the Grimms. The laser-based weapon punches through the bone armor of the Grimm and hits the real body. However, it does not cause too much damage when the laser hits the non-vital organ of the Grimm.
As for the plasma, it is the most effective way to kill Grimm. The plasma punches through the bone armor of the Grimm and then explodes after punching through the body. It gets better because the Plasma Repeater's fire rate is relatively fast.
There is also the gun mounted on the Gremlin—the Plasma Rifle inside the Gremlin fires even more powerful plasma and fires at a slightly faster rate. Not only that, but it also has almost 100% efficiency, so it does not need to worry about heat, as the heat that builds up immediately cools down.
The only thing that it needs to worry about is the energy it requires to continue to function. Even using the Aetherion Core, it will become a problem if the Gremlin fires without care, as it is not a full assault drone but rather a multi-purpose drone. It is built to support its companion in mission, after all.
"Gremlin, shoot down their air support."
Orin commands his drone and hears a confirmation beep from the Gremlin. Gremlin flies high, aims at the incoming Nevermores, and shoots the two Nevermores. The Nevermore tries to counter the incoming plasma with the hardened feather they release from their wings.
Sadly for them, it is not enough to destroy Gremlin, who is equipped with a personal shielding tech that blocks all incoming attacks. As for the feathers that fly toward Orin and the others, Sienna and the others take action. They jump and block all the incoming projectiles with ease and continue attacking the Grimm on the ground.
It does not take long for the Gremlin to kill the two Nevermores and free the remaining fighters from preparing another Feather Attack from the Nevermore.
Now, with the full power of all fighters on the battlefield, the fighters of Kuo Kuana manage to sweep the Grimm before they can do too much damage to the wall. It takes them another ten minutes before all the Grimm is gone, and they win the fight.
"YEAH!"
