Chapter 106 - Chapter 104: The Ashen Depths

---

The sea turned black as they sailed closer to the Ashen Depths—a place not marked on most maps. Long ago, this region was a kingdom ruled by powerful humans who tried to challenge the gods. In response, the gods turned their land to dust and drowned it beneath boiling waves.

Now, the Ashen Depths were a cursed sea. No birds flew here. No wind whispered. Just silence, and the occasional groan of something ancient moving far below the water.

Chirag stood at the bow of the ship, staring into the distance. "It feels like we're being watched."

"We are," Kael said, hand on his sword. "Everything here is watching us. Even the sea."

Siya walked beside them, her eyes narrowed. "The next Thread is somewhere below us. But not even my magic can sense it clearly. Something's hiding it."

Chirag looked down into the dark water. It wasn't just deep—it was endless.

"We'll have to dive."

Kael raised an eyebrow. "You mean you'll have to dive."

"No," Chirag replied. "All three of us go. If one of us doesn't come back, the others need to finish this."

Siya nodded. "We move together."

---

They anchored the ship and prepared for the descent. Siya used her magic to wrap them in protective bubbles of air, and Kael enchanted their gear for underwater breathing and movement.

The moment they sank beneath the surface, the light disappeared. It was like falling into a dream. The water grew colder, heavier. Strange shapes drifted in the darkness—statues, ruins, weapons half-buried in the silt.

"It's like a graveyard," Siya whispered through the magic link between them.

"It is," Chirag replied. "This whole place died in silence."

Hours seemed to pass as they swam deeper, guided only by the glow of the relics they carried. Finally, they saw it: a massive temple buried in coral and stone, cracked but still standing. At its center was a giant arch made of black stone, with ancient symbols glowing on its surface.

Chirag pointed. "That's it. The Thread is inside."

---

They entered the temple, pushing aside broken doors and tangled seaweed. Inside, time felt strange again—like each movement echoed. In the central chamber stood a pillar of energy, pulsing slowly like a sleeping heart. Floating inside it was a glowing strand of light—the next Thread of Creation.

Before they could approach, the water trembled.

Something was coming.

Out of the shadows swam a massive creature—part eel, part serpent, its body covered in black scales and glowing runes. Eyes like molten silver locked onto them.

"Leave," it hissed, voice echoing through their minds. "This thread is cursed. It binds the mistakes of the gods. You unbind it, you invite death."

Chirag stepped forward. "We already invited death when we chose to fight. Now we choose life."

The creature roared, shaking the temple. It lunged toward Chirag, but Siya moved faster. She summoned a wave of shadow spikes, striking the creature's side.

Kael darted in, slashing at its tail with his enchanted blade.

Chirag swam straight for the pillar. The closer he got, the more the light burned his skin—but he didn't stop. He reached out—and touched the Thread.

The entire temple exploded in light.

---

Chirag found himself standing on solid ground again, though he knew it was just a vision. Around him were shadows—whispers of the past.

He saw the gods creating the Ashen Kingdom. He saw its people rise with pride, then fall with greed. He saw the gods destroy them—not out of justice, but out of fear.

Then he saw one god turn away from the others. A woman with gold eyes. She hid a piece of the Ashen King's soul deep within the Thread, hoping one day someone would restore balance.

Chirag reached forward—and took the Thread.

---

The vision faded. He was underwater again, holding the glowing Thread in his hands.

The sea creature let out one final roar, then slowly vanished, its duty complete.

Chirag turned to Siya and Kael. "I have it."

Siya smiled, exhausted but relieved. "Let's get out of here."

They swam back toward the surface, moving faster now that the temple had begun to crumble behind them. The sea grew lighter as they rose, and soon their ship came into view.

---

Back on the deck, they pulled off their gear and collapsed, breathing hard.

"Another thread," Kael said between breaths. "Only two more to go."

Siya looked at the glowing light in Chirag's hand. "This one is different. It holds memories. Emotions. Regrets."

Chirag nodded. "It was made from pain. But also hope."

They placed the Thread with the others. The relics reacted—glowing brighter together. The world itself seemed to hum with quiet power.

"We're getting closer," Siya said softly.

"Closer to what?" Kael asked. "Saving the world… or changing it forever?"

Chirag looked at the horizon. "Maybe both."

---

That night, as the sea returned to its haunting silence, Chirag stood alone at the edge of the ship. He held the Thread and closed his eyes.

He thought of everything they'd seen. Everything they'd fought for. And the things they still didn't understand.

There was a war coming. Not just between gods and mortals. But between truth and illusion. Love and power. Past and future.

He whispered a promise to the sea.

"I won't stop. Not until she's free. Not until the world is ours again."

The Thread pulsed softly in his hand, like it heard him—and believed.
