Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: Is Having Money That Impressive? Do You Think Money Lets You Do Whatever You Want?

Having a lot of money isn't a problem, and having too much money isn't necessarily a problem either. However, if someone suddenly becomes rich overnight, then that is a problem.

If you don't believe it, look up the fate of past jackpot lottery winners in the so-called "free and beautiful" America.

After the auction ended, many people began inquiring about Yamcha.

Having excessive wealth without the ability to manage it properly is a dangerous thing.

Although Yamcha had the strength to match his wealth, the problem was that others didn't know that. In such a vast world with so many people, there would always be a few lunatics.

Yamcha didn't like trouble, nor did he like dealing with it.

Fortunately, this world had a special profession dedicated to handling trouble.

Without hesitation, Yamcha stepped into a distinctive building marked by two black Xs crossing over a white-lined background.

"Hello, this is the Hunter Association. How may we assist you?"

The receptionist greeted him politely.

Yamcha silently pulled out a black card and handed it over.

This wasn't the gilded black card that Kailal had given him. Instead, Yamcha had divided his wealth into more than a dozen different black cards, each containing billions.

If you think that's troublesome, remember—when traveling, never put all your eggs in one basket.

"A Treasure Hunter. Ten billion Jenny to handle some problems."

In the world of Hunter x Hunter, Hunters were responsible for handling all sorts of tasks—there were Gourmet Hunters who sought out rare delicacies, Bounty Hunters who chased after criminals for money, Ruins Hunters who discovered lost civilizations, and so on.

In short, as long as you had the money to issue a request, there was nothing they couldn't do.

And Treasure Hunters specialized in handling "problems" like these.

Leave professional work to the professionals. Yamcha only needed to part with a small fraction of his wealth.

Two Days Later, Hunter Association VIP Room

"Mr. Yamcha, your request has been fully handled by the Two-Star Treasure Hunter, Aragon."

"Please rate the service for this request. If you're very satisfied, press 1."

The same receptionist from before handed him a tablet-like device. Before she could finish speaking, Yamcha had already pressed 1.

"Thank you for your rating!"

As she was about to leave, Yamcha called out to her.

"Please wait a moment, I have another request."

"Of course, Mr. Yamcha. Please describe your requirements."

The receptionist turned back, putting on a professional but somewhat artificial smile.

Yamcha held up a single finger and waved it. "One billion Jenny—to secure a spot in the next Hunter Exam."

Upon hearing this, for the first time, the receptionist's ever-present professional smile cracked with genuine surprise. "You really want to issue this request?"

"Of course."

Yamcha would've preferred to just buy a Hunter License outright, but the Hunter Association didn't sell them. Licenses had to be earned through personal ability. While there were licenses circulating on the black market, they belonged to others and had little practical use.

Buying eligibility for the exam, however, was a different story.

A Hunter License was worth about a billion Jenny on the black market, and Yamcha was willing to pay the same price just to enter the exam.

With a 99% elimination rate, securing a spot in the exam was something the Hunter Association would undoubtedly allow.

Yamcha found the process of qualifying for the Hunter Exam—solving puzzles, gathering information, and tracking down clues—an unnecessary waste of time. He preferred to skip all that and jump straight into the test.

"Mr. Yamcha, your request has been accepted. We've registered you online for the next exam, which takes place on January 7th. You can check in on January 6th."

The receptionist then informed him of other details. The Yorknew City Auction had only recently ended, and it was now mid-September—meaning there were still several months before the exam.

"I have another request. I need an exceptionally skilled Gourmet Hunter to handle my meals for the time being."

"Additionally, I have another request on top of that."

Yamcha continued issuing more requests one after another.

The Hunter Association was incredibly convenient. While they wouldn't take on illegal requests—such as assassinations—almost anything else was fair game.

As long as you could afford it.

Not every Hunter was like Ging Freecss, constantly disappearing without a trace. And not every Hunter was free from financial worries.

In the world of Hunter x Hunter, money could buy the services of most powerful individuals.

The Next Day, A Private Dojo Owned by the Hunter Association

"Hey, you're late."

As Yamcha stepped into the dojo, a burly, scar-covered man, dressed like a wild barbarian, crossed his arms and spoke with impatience.

"Breakfast was quite elaborate, so I took my time enjoying it."

Yamcha replied while casually sizing up the man before him.

He was Hubre, a licensed Bounty Hunter and a survivor of the 283rd Hunter Exam.

Yamcha's second request was to have a licensed Hunter train him.

"I need to gauge the strength of licensed Hunters to better assess my own abilities."

"Let's get started," Yamcha said.

"You may have paid me, but let me make one thing clear—your request was for full-contact training. If you get injured, don't blame me."

"Is having money that impressive? Do you think money lets you do whatever you want?"

Hubre cracked his knuckles with a sinister grin, stepping toward Yamcha. He planned to teach this rich brat a lesson.

Ten Minutes Later

Hubre was sprawled on the ground, completely limp.

Yamcha silently pulled out his phone.

"Please schedule my next trainer immediately."

Hubre wasn't even good enough for a warm-up. Compared to the disciples at the Water Stream Rock Smashing Fist Dojo, he was completely lacking.

A Hunter License didn't necessarily mean someone was powerful. Some exam candidates were even stronger than licensed Hunters. What truly mattered was whether they had mastered Nen, the defining ability of a true Hunter.

Above licensed Hunters were One-Star, Two-Star, and Three-Star Hunters, ranked according to their prestige and skill.

"Maybe I was a bit too rough."

Yamcha glanced at Hubre, who lay there drooling all over the floor.

In truth, Hubre was just unlucky. Yamcha had been in a foul mood because he'd argued with his personal chef earlier—the chef refused to make the dish he wanted and instead prepared a different cuisine.

Ironically, it turned out to be quite delicious.

On a side note, the exclusive Gourmet Hunter Yamcha had hired was a One-Star Hunter.
