Chapter 36 - Breaking Point

The Breaking Point

The night was unusually quiet, the distant hum of city traffic barely reaching the dimly lit rooftop where Wick sat alone. A cigarette burned between his fingers, the smoke curling into the air as his gaze remained fixed on the skyline. His mind was restless, weighed down by a truth he wasn't sure how to handle.

Annu approached cautiously, sensing the storm within him. She folded her arms, tilting her head slightly.

"So… how's everything going?" she asked, her voice laced with curiosity.

Wick let out a dry chuckle, shaking his head. "I'm done."

Annu's brow furrowed. "What do you mean?"

He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "I'm done trying to get her. I'm done making a fool of myself."

There was a sharp edge to his voice, but underneath it was something deeper—pain.

Annu's expression softened. "Wick… what happened?"

Wick hesitated, then leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. His voice was quieter this time. "I found him."

Annu's eyes widened. "You did what?"

He smirked humorlessly. "You heard me. I found Vivaan."

Annu blinked, processing his words. Then, confusion took over. "So why the hell haven't you told Shristi? This is what she's been looking for!"

Wick's jaw tightened. "Because he fooled her."

Annu frowned. "What are you talking about?"

Wick sighed, tossing the cigarette aside. "There's something we're missing, Annu. The way he's living… He's normal. No fear, no tension. And besides—he's dating Angela."

Annu's face twisted in disbelief. "What?! The Angela?"

Wick nodded. "Yeah. He's with her, all while pretending to be Sam's pawn."

Annu opened her mouth to argue, but the certainty in Wick's voice silenced her. She sighed, rubbing her temples. "I think you should take some rest, Wick. You look exhausted."

Wick leaned back, his gaze drifting to the stars. "Yeah… maybe you're right."

Annu gave him one last concerned glance before turning to leave.

Just as she disappeared down the stairs, Deep stepped onto the rooftop. Unlike Annu, he didn't hesitate—he walked straight up to Wick and sat beside him.

"Alright, spill. Why the hell do you look like you just lost a battle?"

Wick didn't respond immediately. He stared at the city lights for a moment before saying, "You should be happy, He broke up with her."

Deep's brow lifted. "And yet, you don't look happy at all."

Wick clenched his jaw. "Because I didn't want this. I didn't want her heart to break like this." He exhaled, frustration laced in his voice. "Brother, why do good people always choose the wrong ones to love?"

Deep leaned back, his expression thoughtful. "Because we accept the love we think we deserve."

Silence hung between them for a moment. Wick closed his eyes briefly, processing Deep words.

Then he turned to face him. "Can we make them see that they deserve more?"

Deep offered a small smile, his voice steady. "We can try. And don't worry, brother. One day, she'll realize that you were the one all along."

Wick didn't respond. He simply sat there, staring into the night, unsure if he could believe that anymore.
