Chapter 21 - Picking Up Items

Green moved on. "Is that alright?"

"Yes." As Jules replied, he suddenly felt a wave of information hit him.

It was information relating to the items he put in his inventory.

Before, it was vague. I guessed it was because I already knew what I had put in, but with these items, I know their names and everything they can do.

The inventory comes with a form of 'inspect' feature!

Heh, I guess I can't call myself unlucky anymore. Even Finn didn't have this!

Jules looked at the items on the counter with anticipation.

On the counter lay two masks, a one-sided curved blade, twin straight swords, and several sets of attire.

Green stood quietly as he watched Jules take them.

He took the two bone white masks with different 'expressions' on them, but they were both traced with red and gold.

Like he did earlier, Jules brought them into his cloak and opened his inventory, putting them in it.

As he did, he muttered, "Masks that conceal aura and can alter voice, hair and eye colors. They also have night visions. Grade 3..."

Moving onto the black uniform-like attires, he roughly checked them and kept them.

"The attires are very durable. They were even made with Arakna, the material that 'heals'."

The twin straight swords had a black hilt and dark red blade. It was simple.

"Very durable and has a high mana conductivity. Seems to be Grade 4." Like a reviewer, Jules kept on dropping his comments.

And here it is, the dream sword!

A sleek katana rested on the podium, its black blade edged in glinting gold. The hilt was wrapped in dark leather, tucked beneath a gold-accented guard.

Jules held the sword and weighed it in his hand.

Pulling mana into it, Jules slashed the sword downward with a sharp gust of wind.

There was no resistance as it cut down clean.

Should I use my skill? I wonder how well I can use blood with it.

Jules forced himself to act rationally and as if sheathing the sword, it slowly disappeared into the depths of his cloak.

"A beautiful Grade 3 sword," he said to Green.

"...I agree," Stunned by Jules's capabilities, Green replied. "The ID will be fully ready in 5 days. The one that demands a high-standing background is what is delaying. The 'Jules' ID is ready."

An idea popped up in Jules's head as he said, "I'll collect that one."

Pulling a bunch of papers out of his device, Green explained.

"Jules is now a young male found by a Wanderer 15 years ago, who eventually taught him. After his master died, he inherited his belongings and set out on his own journey. That's the summary."

Jules teased in satisfaction. "It's good. I don't doubt the almighty Sir Green Stream's abilities."

Ignoring him, Green stated, "That's all for today then."

"Ah, I have a deal to make with you."

Raising his head, Green gestured to Jules to continue.

"I need you to take me to the actual underworld."

Green remained silent for some seconds, before he replied, "Alright. Your change will cover this up. Is there something you need there?"

"Yes, I want to enter a Beyond."

Suddenly, bloodlust was exuded from Green before it disappeared. Only someone familiar with bloodlust would notice that.

I guess you hate the Underworld that much. Jules thought as he waited for a response.

"If you want my help with that, you'll pay more." Green stated with a deep and slightly annoyed voice.

"Alright."

Jules brought out the bag he was holding and gave Green half the amount of bones he brought the last time, leaving him with quarter of the bones he found.

"This along with me offering a one time free reasonable service. Oh, I also want you to retract your hands from the person named Finn."

At that moment, the darkness of Green's eye hole seemed to grow deeper.

"You should not get ahead of yourself."

Jules shrugged. "I know. That is why I'm paying you."

After a moment of silence, Green agreed and immediately left after Jules requested a minor favor.

How prideful. You don't like being used, yet you want to use others.

Jules thought as he picked up the paper and kept it.

Then he made his way to the backdoor, feeling like meat about to be torn apart by savages.

Huh, maybe I'm actually getting carried away…

A man five feet nine with raven black hair and crimson red eyes donned a hood that covered his masked face in darkness.

As someone who had once fallen into the slums, Finn knew of the shadows.

And after days of exploration, he had confirmed this world had its own shadows, and he had found his lead to it.

Soon, he found himself in an alleyway where a lady with tied brown hair and blue eyes stood cheerfully.

"Hey, pal," Green's subordinate said, "How much are you paying to enter?"

Without talking, Finn threw a bag filled with coins some travellers had given him.

The lady kicked the bag up and confirmed its details.

She walked towards him, causing Finn's grip on his long sword to tighten.

"Green Stream Apothecary," She whispered, "Tell them 'My thigh is about to blow.' It comes with a Broker."

And she walked away from the alleyway before blending in with the crowd.

At that moment, the flickering orb of light only him could see asked:

"Smally, how fast could you have killed her?"

"2 minutes."

"Tsk. How slow. During my days, I killed multiple beasts in one slash while laughing."

"But you don't even remember your past," Finn said, frowning.

"Yes, but I can feel this," The Orb said proudly.

Sighing, Finn also blended through the crowd, even removing his cloak skillfully.

He navigated the busy streets using a map, and found the Apothecary.

Wearing his cloak, he walked into the greenish-white lit room.

No one was in sight, but he felt a presence laying behind the counter so he said:

"My thigh is about to blow."

The person behind the counter said, "Go through the door."

Without hesitation, he went past the counter and went through the door which had stairs that led down.

This path was lit up by wall lamps, but Finn still relied on his senses.

He reached a fairly spaced room that seemed to have various traps.

In it was a small table with two chairs facing each other.

Casually seated on one chair was a man that held almost no presence.

He wore a long black coat over a red undershirt, paired with slim black trousers, red gloves, and a high black boot.

His face was hidden behind a white mask — its eye holes curved downward in a way that mimicked a mischievous smile, while a long, thin mouth slit formed an unsettling grin.

Intricate red and gold designs traced the holes of the mask, giving it a ceremonial, almost theatrical feel.

His hair was a crimson colour of neck-length.

The man stared at Finn for a long second, the grin of his mask unmoving.

Then, in a teasing tone, he said, "I'll be your doctor. Tell me where it hurts."

Before moving further, Finn asked his parasite.

"What do you think about him?"

"I…don't know." The Orb replied.
