Two flowers bloom, each showing their own brilliance.
While Yu Tianming and his companion headed toward the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Dugu Yan was at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, absorbing the 4,000-year-old Sea Serpent Left Arm Bone.
As a soul master who hadn't even obtained her first soul ring, Dugu Yan had already acquired a soul bone perfectly suited to her. One must know, even some Title Douluo didn't have a single soul bone.
Even the heirs of the major clans typically only inherited soul bones passed down from former clan leaders after their death.
Seeing his six-year-old granddaughter absorb a soul bone, Dugu Bo was overjoyed. Smiling, he asked, "Yan Yan, what soul skill did this soul bone give you?"
A ball of deep purple venom appeared in Dugu Yan's small hand—just enough to be held in her six-year-old palm.
With a slight flick of her wrist, the venom transformed into three dark purple liquid arrows that shot toward a spot on the rock wall. Under the poison's assault, the once-smooth cliff wall was instantly punctured with a hole that emitted white smoke.
Looking closely, one would notice that the holes were several tens of centimeters deep—unbelievable damage for a soul master with no rings.
But Dugu Yan looked dissatisfied and said, "The skill from this left arm bone is called Venomous Arrow Rain. It turns venom into water arrows that shoot at the enemy. But my soul power is too low right now, so I can only release a few arrows."
Dugu Bo gently stroked her head and comforted her, "You're already amazing, Yan Yan. Your poison arrows can corrode stone, they're fast, and highly controllable. Once your soul power grows, you'll be able to unleash a rain of arrows with a wave of your hand, striking wherever you aim."
Just look at Ma Hongjun's 30,000-year-old Flame Explosion right arm bone—it only gave his flames an explosive property. For a 4,000-year soul bone to grant a wide-range, highly controllable skill was already excellent.
This soul bone skill also made Dugu Bo reconsider Dugu Yan's future soul ring configuration.
As everyone knew, Dugu Bo was a control-type soul master who used poison fog. Ten years later, when the Heaven Dou Battle Team first clashed with Shrek, Yu Xiaogang could instantly recognize Dugu Yan's poison fog as inherited from Dugu Bo.
Dugu Bo originally wanted Dugu Yan to follow in his footsteps, using poison fog to control enemies. But this soul bone skill made him realize—he shouldn't make her rely on poison fog anymore.
Having used it for years, Dugu Bo deeply understood its flaws—slow diffusion, lack of control over who gets affected, low toxin concentration, and other inefficiencies.
The Sea Serpent's left arm bone was different: faster attacks, higher precision, and more potent liquid toxins.
Except for its smaller area of effect, it outclassed poison fog in every way.
This left Dugu Bo uncertain about which direction to guide Dugu Yan's soul skill development, but he'd rather let her progress slowly than have her walk the wrong path.
So he said, "Yan Yan, just focus on cultivation for now. After a while, Grandpa will help you find the right soul ring, okay?"
Though she was eager to obtain her first soul skill, Dugu Yan obediently nodded.
Half a month later, Dugu Bo's appearance had changed considerably. His once sickly green hair had turned light green, with only his eyes still glowing an eerie green.
Thanks to the much more generous blood Yu Tianming provided—far more than what Tang San had given in the original timeline—Dugu Bo expelled the toxins much faster. By now, nearly 60–70% had been purged, and the backlash that had tormented him for years had become minimal.
Dugu Bo was already very satisfied with this progress. He knew that the remaining toxins would need to be slowly removed over time. Although the poison had seeped into his bones and couldn't be entirely cleansed, forcing it into his soul bones was enough to guarantee a peaceful life.
Having experienced it firsthand, he was also sure that the poison in his granddaughter's body could be completely removed. That made him even happier than curing himself.
Dugu Bo had long been on the verge of a breakthrough. Using the detox process as an opportunity, he finally advanced to Rank 90—just one soul ring away from becoming a Title Douluo.
Remembering Yu Yuanzhen's promise before leaving, he took out a fist-sized crystal orb and used his soul power to transmit a message to him, explaining both his and Dugu Yan's current situation.
This wasn't a soul awakening crystal, but a communication crystal used among Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's upper ranks. The one in his hand was linked solely to Yu Yuanzhen.
In the original novel, when Dugu Bo clashed with the Golden Iron Triangle, Liu Erlong had also used one of these to threaten him.
At this moment, Yu Yuanzhen was on his way to Gengxin City. Upon receiving Dugu Bo's message, he replied with just a few words: "Wait for me in Hanhai City. I'll help you hunt your soul rings."
Seeing this, Dugu Bo finally let go of the worries he had about soul rings. He thought to himself: As expected of one of the Three Upper Clans. The Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan lives in the eastern part of the continent, yet they can get intel about soul beasts in the westernmost Hanhai City—truly terrifying.
It's extremely difficult for high-level soul masters to find a soul ring that suits them, especially for those without backing.
Early on, if a soul master was part of a clan, their family could raise soul beasts for them. Even ordinary soul masters could easily find suitable beasts in the forest.
At the 30–40 rank range, clans couldn't raise thousand-year beasts, but everyone could still venture into the forests.
However, by the 70–80 ranks, without a clan's intelligence network, a civilian soul master would be thrilled to find a suitable ten-thousand-year soul beast. Getting a beast over 50,000 years old that fit them would be a miracle.
As for a hundred-thousand-year soul ring—even Bibi Dong, the Pope of the Spirit Hall, had chosen to hunt a rabbit despite her spirit being a spider, just to obtain one.
After receiving the message, Dugu Bo opened a gap in the poison fog surrounding the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, then carefully carried Dugu Yan out.
The two of them traveled to Heaven Dou City, rented a carriage, and began heading to Hanhai City.
Hanhai City was located at the westernmost part of the Heaven Dou Empire and was the only coastal port city in the empire's west. All Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan had to do was head west from the empire's center to reach it.
Yu Yuanzhen and Yu Tianming, however, had taken a different route—from Heaven Dou City to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, then southeast into the Star Luo Empire, and from there west through the region below the Star Dou Forest to reach Gengxin City.
To get to Hanhai City after that, they would still have to cross the vast Star Luo Desert. Their journey was easily four times longer than Dugu Bo and his granddaughter's.
The carriage slowly made its way to Hanhai City, taking over a month. By then, Dugu Bo's once green hair had turned completely white, and his glowing green eyes had mellowed into a gentle jade hue, no longer frightening.
At this point, the poison in Dugu Bo's body had been completely expelled.
