Chapter 20 - Prince of Silence

The walk was silent, his eyes moving around as he just yawned. Cars passing by, one by one. Red, blue, purple. Everything at once. Yet he couldn't feel anything. – His feelings were numb, his ears just flickering lightly as he stepped, in the silence, just his soul ringing softly. Awaiting whatever came next.

Yet nothing came, rare were these nights. Where he could finally sit in silence. For a few moments, not even cars passed, not even the sound of electronics could be heard, just silence and the soft ring.

He let out a sharp exhale, his ears flickering once more as he just paused. – His phone began ringing. Just his plain one, so he knew it was not Fen. Nor someone of importance. – He did not want to answer. But with a sigh, he took it out of his pocket.

The number was not familiar, not noted in his contact list, so he gave another sigh before clicking the answer button and putting it up to his head. Taking a deep breath, expecting it to be some guy trying to prank him.

"Hoi? Who is it? I don't believe I know this number..."

Tris spoke as he answered the call, still walking. But slowed down significantly, his attention was taken by the phone call. – A bit of time passed before a voice spoke from the other side. Tris just blinking.

"Uhh, Nora here! Heard something happened around dorms while I was gone in the city mall- All good?"

It was clear she was trying to make an alibi, covering herself and her tracks. She surely was ecstatic that the heavens were unsealed. But it's not like she lived there... She still lived and was basically human! – To an extent.

"Uhh, how do I place this... I caught a feather! – It weighed nothing and everything at once. – Funny how some things feel like home... Even when you never lived there!"

Tris spoke, his voice extremely soft as he just grinned. He hinted at his identity quite clearly. Wanting her to just catch on. – Nora went silent. Perhaps actually understanding his hints. And he just did an audible chuckle into the phone.

"You-you better not hope for me to call you prince."

Nora spoke blankly, clearly her voice was panicked. This guy cooked for her and helped her! Now he knows she isn't blind and that she's an angel! And she knows he's a god?! Or demi-god, whatever the hell, heirs are!

"Mhmmm, well, speak when I'm there. If I even make it before Fen gets me and is confused about what happened with the sky.... And I think I'm just gonna ignore the news for the next few weeks... Or months. Or longer, cause I'm NOT dealing with those things..."

The sly fox spoke, his ears flickering as he kept walking, he didn't want to be too slow in the end. Thats for sure. – Nora? She just laughed at his comment, she was wondering if the news would say it was a movie, or the genuine truth.

"Ha! I get it. Its bullshit most of the time the things they put on the news, you're better off asking Queen Althea. She's the all-seeing after all! The safest information source."

Nora spoke, spitting out the hate for the news channels quite plainly... In the end, yes, they were always filled with lies or fragments of truths, rarely the full truth. – And Tris knew that the Reason he wanted to avoid it so badly, it was too much for his brain.

"I'm tired, good luck. I'm out for today."

Tris was blunt, ending the call in Nora's nose as he continued moving forward. His ears flickered as he thought back on what he hated and loved in this world. But also the simple fact that he had a need. The need for power.

No, he wasn't power hungry... Or maybe a bit, he was, but it was a requirement for the life he was living. – Mainly when hunted by such shadows that waited to rip you to shreds and present the remains to some corrupted royalty....

Wait, with his mother free... He was royalty! Does this mean he'd get a pretty crown to go along with it? But his mother had no crown... But perhaps she simply did not wear it during fights! – If he gets one, he would. He would really love a crown. Who heard of crownless royalty?!

He should show the shadows they were messing with, no mere person or Rune writer! He's a prince!... In theory, at least. He rules no kingdom, but a concept. The concept of Creation. – But that concept also brought power to its ruler... To some extent.

Tris was merely a prince of the concept. – While it gave him power, it was not nurtured. Nor did he have its 'crown', so to speak. That was his father, who was still sealed. He held the true power of the concept. And it was not passed down to him.

The sly fox let out a sigh, still walking aimlessly. His thoughts ran back to Fen with a smile. He had not called him yet. His mother surely had a few words with him... Poor guy is probably getting tortured in the most horrid ways possible. And he feels nothing during it.

The funny image was just Fen getting electrocuted or smited, yet just laughing it off and arguing with his mother regarding how to raise him... That was just it in the end. They each wanted to grow him in a different way. But he just grew up himself. – It was the same with Rose. All of them fought about how to raise him. Yet they just forgot to do it.

So most of the time, he was alone. – The only one of the two actually taking care of him actively was Rose, giving him gifts out of her worry that he couldn't keep himself alive. – Yet never actually attempting to train him to fight. Just always mentioning the same thing over and over, and giving him things to protect him. He felt it was stupid.

Perhaps they thought he was young. Merely getting into high school... But even so. He was bright, perhaps due to his lineage. But he was! He could plan, create small intricate trinkets and even more. – Weak could not be their reason!

He stepped through the city... He didn't really know how, but he ended up close to the training place of Fen... So he decided to walk towards that location. Perhaps to actually check in on what's happening.

Tris gave a small chuckle to himself. He didn't really know what he wanted to see... Did he want to see Fen being beaten? Did he just want to see his mother outside of a fight? Or perhaps ask her about a crown!

Honestly, it was all three, maybe even more. He wanted Fen to be beaten and to laugh about it. He wanted to see his mother, cause he didn't before! She was wearing her mask... And of course, he wanted to have a crown in the end.

Perhaps it was childish... But he had the right to be childish just a bit! – He was still a child, he was not an adult. If anyone asked, he's just going to bring up that he's a prince. Not a king! And probably not a king for a gooodddd while...

This reminded him of the fact that he had Amaka... Perhaps he should speak to her sometime. – She just fused with him, gave him strength and went silent... Perhaps she was not one to speak, like her sister. – Fuka rarely spoke unless asked, or unless she had something to say.

Tris always liked that, and Fuka also liked the fact that he was silent. They loved to spend time with each other. But talking was simply not their thing, they loved silence. To hear the wind and leaves moving, falling through the air. Or even the birds in the air!

He was quite sure Amaka would be similar, perhaps just a bit more formal to some extent, but she would get used to the two very fast. Formality was not something they needed in between themselves. After all, they were fragments of each other. Like siblings of sorts.

Tris stood in front of the door, debating whether he should enter or not. – Then, the shock hit him. He forgot the leaf, got into danger. – Rose is gonna kill him or beat him to shreds. – The moment of panic hit him like a truck. A big one filled with bricks at that.

Filled with bricks, lined with compressed steel. A hull made out of titanium, and he could keep going. – Heavily regretting his hunt now. It was not worth it. It was not worth it even a BIT. – But there was nothing he could do now. Simply, his life was over. He was a dead man.

Of course, truly, at worst, she would just beat him a bit, give him a harsh lesson. – But with his hand on the handle, that seemed like a harsh death instead. – He gave one last sigh as he stepped, pressing the door handle and entering.
