Chapter 22 - 022: One flickering light

DAMIEN's POV

"What are you hiding?" I asked, stepping toward her, the growl barely contained in my throat.

Selene froze, her eyes flickering, calculating. She didn't answer. Just stood there, lips parted slightly as her hand remained tucked behind her back, knuckles tightening around whatever she clutched.

I saw her gulp.

And I lost it.

My voice tore through the corridor like a beast unchained.

"WHAT ARE YOU HIDING, SELENE?!"

She flinched—but only slightly.

Eva was there. I could feel her behind me even before her scent reached my nose. Her energy, her stillness, the way she held her breath, all of it told me she knew something—maybe everything.

Yet, didn't tell me.

The sound of my voice ricocheted down the hallway like a bomb. "ANSWER ME!"

I could see the fear in her eyes, slightly. Like she had a backup plan.

"Damien," Eva whispered behind me, her voice barely audible over the thunderstorm in my chest. She was trying to reach me. But I couldn't look away.
