A low rumble shook the stone beneath Jin Hwan's feet as the towering inner gate split apart with a hiss of steam and fire. Beyond it lay a massive chamber filled with floating torii gates, glowing embers, and a thick red mist that pulsed with energy.

"This place reeks of something ancient," Jin Hwan muttered, hand on his chest. His heart was pounding—not with fear, but recognition.

"Yeah. Something's… calling," Isumi whispered, ears twitching. Her golden eyes narrowed."I've done fox spirit dungeons before… but this is something else."

Suddenly, flames twisted in the center of the sanctum, swirling upward until they formed the shape of a massive nine-tailed fox, its body made of living fire, each tail flowing like banners in a storm.

❖ Flames vs Wind & Foxfire

"We go in together. Don't hold back," Isumi said, gripping her twin fans.

"Got it. Let's bring this thing down!" Jin Hwan activated Wind Step, dashing left.

The fox phantom let out an eerie howl and conjured a storm of spectral fireballs. They rained down in spirals, igniting the ground.

"Foxfire Bloom: Spiral Fang!" Isumi spun midair, her attack carving a path through the flames like a spiraling lotus.

Jin Hwan followed up:"Wind Crescent – Triple Arc!"He sent three waves of compressed wind toward the boss's center mass. The gusts cut through the fire, scattering burning fragments.

❖ [Boss HP: 27,300 / 32,000]

The phantom screeched and summoned illusion clones—three flaming copies of Jin Hwan and three of Isumi.

"Oh hell, that's not fair!" Jin Hwan said, dodging a mirror version of himself launching the same Wind Step toward him.

"It copied our moves?"

"They're just illusions—focus on the tails!" Isumi shouted, pointing.

"I'll handle my fake. You go for the real one!"

❖ Tsundere Sync: Final Strike

As the clones attacked, Jin Hwan ducked under his own wind-blade clone and retaliated with Golden Aura Kick, disintegrating it in a burst of flame and wind.

Across the chamber, Isumi channeled her inner fire.

"Fox Spirit Art – Crimson Blossom Waltz!"She leapt into the air, tails flaring behind her like wings, and struck five of the nine tails in rapid succession.

Jin Hwan charged toward the remaining tails, spinning with Wind Dash, his movement almost invisible as he slashed through tail after tail.

❖ [Boss HP: 8,000 / 32,000]

The phantom howled again and began collapsing into a core of golden flame.

"We finish it together!" Isumi shouted, cheeks red from effort."…Don't mess this up, dumb bunny!"

"Wouldn't dream of it, foxy!" Jin Hwan grinned, eyes glowing with golden light.

"Windfire Pulse: Flame Tail Fang!" they shouted in unison.

Their joint skill activated—a massive whirlwind wreathed in lotus fire struck the phantom square in the chest, causing an implosion of light and heat.

In the glowing aftermath, a lone pedestal rose from the center of the hall. Upon it lay a dagger—its blade silver with glowing blue veins, the hilt curved like rabbit ears, and its aura felt… familiar.

So familiar, it made Jin Hwan's heartbeat slow.

He stepped forward and picked it up.

"This… this is why I was drawn here." Jin Hwan whispered. The dagger shimmered, pulsing softly in his hand.

"…It chose you," Isumi said, approaching from behind. Her voice had softened."That blade has been sealed in shrine records for centuries. No fox hunter could ever claim it."

He glanced at her."Maybe it was never meant for a fox."

She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms."…Still weird for a rabbit, though."

"Heh, I'll take that as a compliment."

As they stood in the heart of the glowing shrine, fire slowly fading and ashes swirling like stars, Jin Hwan smiled to himself.

He didn't fully understand the dagger's purpose yet—but his System had made one thing clear:

This was only the beginning.

A sudden gust of foxfire erupted from beneath Isumi's feet, spiraling upward in a vortex of orange and gold. The air around her shimmered, heat waves distorting space as her figure floated midair, bathed in spiritual light.

"Wha—what the hell is this?!" Isumi cried out, her hands spread as the energy pulsed through her veins.

Her tails multiplied one by one, curling into the air like streaks of living fire. Nine beautiful tails flowed behind her, each one crackling with divine energy. Her aura expanded, burning away the last of the dungeon's residual curse.

When the light faded, she slowly descended to the ground.

Jin Hwan caught her gently."...Whoa. You okay?"

"…D-Don't just grab me like that out of nowhere, stupid rabbit…" she mumbled, flushed and dizzy. But her voice trembled.

"You've got… nine tails now."

She looked over her shoulder and stared. For a moment, her golden eyes filled with wonder.

"I… I really awakened… It wasn't just a legend..."

❖ Days in Japan – Shrine to City Lights

The next few hours were a blur. After Jin Hwan helped her down from the inner sanctum, they both exited the dungeon as it collapsed behind them in a fading vortex of cherry blossom petals and foxfire.

And then, for seven whole days… Isumi became his unofficial tour guide.

The first morning, they stood before the Fushimi Inari Shrine, now sealed with a protective spiritual barrier. Isumi wore a casual white hoodie and denim skirt, her fox ears poking through her hood.

"Where do you wanna go, Rabbit Boy?"

"I dunno. Show me what you love about this place." Jin Hwan smiled.

Day 1 – Kyoto's Shrine Road. They walked through thousands of torii gates together, sipping matcha drinks. Isumi kept glancing at him from the corner of her eye and would blush when he smiled back.

Day 2 – Osaka Food Tour.Jin Hwan tried takoyaki and nearly cried from how hot it was. Isumi laughed for the first time openly, holding her stomach.

"You're such an idiot…" she said between giggles, cheeks flushed.

Day 3-4 – Mount Kurama and Spiritual Sites. They climbed steep temple paths. Jin Hwan caught her once when she nearly slipped. She mumbled thanks, then spent the next hour walking five steps ahead to hide her flustered expression.

Day 5 – A Beach Visit. They sat in the sand under moonlight. She told him how peaceful waves made her feel like a kid again.

"My mom loved the sea," she said quietly."We used to come here… before she passed."

Jin Hwan didn't know what to say, so he just offered his hand silently. To his surprise, she took it.

Day 6 – Tokyo Skytree. They took the elevator up to the top. She pressed her face against the glass, tails swaying behind her gently.

"Everything looks so small from up here," she whispered."Like maybe... all the bad stuff can be far away too."

Day 7 – The Airport.

The silence in the airport lounge was heavy.

Jin Hwan zipped his bag and looked toward the terminal gate.

"Well… that's it, I guess. Thanks for showing me around."

"So that's it?" Isumi asked suddenly, her voice quiet.

He turned.

"…Huh?"

She clutched her small shoulder bag tightly.

"You're just gonna leave? Like it was just some… dungeon partnership thing?"

"Isumi…"

"Do you know how long it's been since I laughed for real?"Her voice cracked."Since someone stood up for me?"

"Back in the shrine... you didn't run away from me. You treated me like I mattered. Even when I was being a jerk."

She wiped her eyes with her sleeve, ears low.

"My mom died when I was nine. Since then, it's just been me and my drunk dad. You know what that's like?"

Jin Hwan stepped forward, stunned into silence.

"I don't want to stay here anymore…" she muttered."I don't want to feel like this place is the only thing I'm stuck with."

And then, quietly—

"...Take me with you."

He blinked."Wha—?"

"I packed already." She gestured to the bag."If you don't want me to come, just say it."

Jin Hwan scratched his head, looking very dumb and very confused."Uh… I mean… why would I say no?"

Isumi stared at him, then looked away quickly.

"Tch… You're such an idiot."

She stepped forward and brushed past him, boarding first. But Jin Hwan caught the tiny smile tugging at the corner of her lips.

As the plane ascended, Jin Hwan stared out the window, the clouds parting below. His new dagger shimmered faintly on his waist.

And sitting beside him, head resting lightly on his shoulder as she pretended to be asleep, was a girl with nine tails and a heart finally starting to heal.
