Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Memory That Chose Her, and the Friend I Might Lose to Time

Sakamoto's Age: 6.5

Location: Braelor Outpost

State: Scarred, silent, stretched thin

Tone: Heavy sorrow, rising threat, something ancient is watching

---

Opening Line:

No one talks about the part after war.

When the world is still, but your thoughts are screaming.

When your friend is dying.

And the girl who shouldn't know your name is crying — because she dreamed of your death.

---

⚔️ Ravian's Condition

It's worse than expected.

He lies unconscious, breath shallow.

Every few hours, a glyph flares on his chest. Each time, it flickers faster.

The healer lowers her voice:

> "He's being unthreaded. Soul first. Body second."

> "How do I stop it?" Sakamoto asks.

> "You bind him. With your own name."

> "That makes him mine."

> "No," she says softly.

"That makes him your responsibility."

Sakamoto looks down at his only real friend.

> "Then do it."

---

🌀 The Soulbind Ritual (Extended Scene)

They draw two sigils in mirrored firelight.

Sakamoto bites his hand. Drops three beads of blood into Ravian's.

Then says the line:

> "From curse to crown, from flame to shadow —

I bind what stayed when others left.

I bind what bled for me when I forgot who I was."

The glyph burns.

Ravian convulses.

Then... silence.

And then…

> "Still ugly," he mutters through a breathless grin.

Sakamoto drops to his knees.

For the first time in years — he laughs.

Then cries.

Quietly.

---

🧊 Eira's Nightmares Intensify

Eira stares into a mirror.

But it's not her reflection anymore.

It's Aelira.

Wounded. Radiant. Dying.

> "You carried my guilt," Aelira says.

> "No," Eira whispers.

"I didn't ask for this."

> "Neither did I. But I loved him anyway."

> "Why are you showing me this?"

> "Because you might be the last person who remembers me at all."

Eira wakes up shaking.

And the glyph on her shoulder now glows like a heartbeat.

---

🗡️ Niris Evolves Again

Later that night, Sakamoto unsheathes her.

She doesn't glow anymore.

She breathes.

Her pulse syncs with his.

> "You're changing."

> "No," she says, voice deeper, more human.

"I'm becoming who I was before you turned me into steel."

> "What does that mean?"

> "It means if I live long enough… I won't need to be a sword anymore."

> "And then what?"

> "Then you'll have to carry your pain without me."

---

🕯️ The Capital's Whisper

In Arkenvale, a figure in silver writes a name in the air.

"Eira Sol."

Not Aelira.

Eira.

The mage looks at the cardinal.

> "She's reawakening."

> "Then we send him," the cardinal whispers.

"The one who broke Aevum's first oath."

A gate opens.

And through it steps a man with half a face.

He smiles like memory.

---

Final Scene – The Name That Shouldn't Exist

Sakamoto walks beyond Braelor.

He finds another sigil carved into a tree.

This one isn't Aevum.

It isn't Ash Crown.

It's older.

It reads:

> "Lucis."

Niris trembles in his hand.

> "Who is Lucis?" he asks.

> "Your brother," she replies.

"The one who wasn't supposed to come back."
