Chapter 31 - Chapter 28: Where Is Lt. Chand?

Last Chapter Recap: "Yes, ma'am," Heidi said, saluting sharply.

I have no idea what is going on at this point…

NOW

Few hours later

"Good work, everyone," Heidi said with a light smile. "Since the situation has been stabilized, you can go eat something."

"Ahhh, finally! My stomach's already grumbling," Laura said, clasping her hands. She glanced at Adam. "Wanna come eat together, Ensign?"

I didn't find of note with instruments, but our relationship with this spy ship has been changed. I don't know why, but instead of stalking us, it was now openly following Goliath from a relatively close distance.

Weird, because it would end the moment the captain unleashed the full might of our main cannon towards the enemy carrier.

No matter how much I think about it, I can't pierce through the captain's thoughts. So I give up.

"Sure," Adam said, snapping out of his thoughts. "This time, I think I'll get something different."

"Ye—" Before Laura could finish, Major Aurora's voice cut through the moment.

"Is Ensign Adam here?"

Just as I'm about to go on a date with lt. Tits, major flattie enters the deck, visibly agitated by something.

"What is it, Major?" Adam asked, then added with a smirk, "Please tell me my dinner is safe..."

"Sorry, Adam," Aurora said, her tone apologetic, "but I need you to help me for a minute."

"Tsk," Adam muttered, clearly frustrated but trying to hide it.

"Shame," Laura said. "Please be kind with him, Major."

"She already has you wrapped around her finger, huh?" Aurora teased. "That's our communication officer, all right."

"Very funny," Adam said, his tone dry. "I hope you didn't come here for mere gossip, Major," he added, raising an eyebrow.

"No, Ensign," Aurora's face shifted to seriousness, "during this battle, did you keep track of Lt. Chand's movements?"

"That's—" Adam said, his voice trailing off.

Fuck, come to think about it, he's the only member of the upper deck that didn't participate in some way in the skirmish… even my Ivanna had her moment to shine.

"You think?" Adam asked, snapping back to the present. "He's the mole after all?"

"Not yet, but I can't find him," Aurora said, her tone laced with suspicion. "Other engineers are hard at work in the engine room, yet their boss is nowhere to be seen. Isn't that strange?"

This guy reeks of untrustworthiness, yet no one seems eager to investigate him properly. This is getting strange.

"Major... at this point, you should report your suspicions to the captain," Adam said, his tone weary. "She's more likely to listen to you than me."

"I did," Aurora said, her voice tinged with frustration. "But the captain is adamant Lt. Chand is not the mole… or rather, Lt. Brody is."

That's another bizarre connection. What do those two guys have to do with each other? I thought lt. Brody wasn't trusting lt. Chand either.

"You're the only other suspect-" Aurora said, placing her hand on her chin, deep in thought.

"Oy," Adam tone a mix of disbelief and frustration.

"-But I analyzed your logs, and there's no way you leaked our problems to the enemy," Aurora continued, her voice steady.

"You analyzed what?" Adam asked, his voice rising in disbelief. "Am I that untrustworthy?!"

How does that sound? Would you like to adjust the emotion or tone?

"Don't take it personally, Ensign," Aurora said, her voice firm. "It's just my job."

Even after everything, she's still wary of me…?! Fuck, I thought at least with her, I am on the clear!

Sigh... "So?" Adam asked, his voice edged with frustration. "What do you want with me?"

"I want you to help me look for Lt. Chand," Aurora said firmly. "I already have permission from the captain, so don't even think about shrinking away."

"Actually..." Adam said, a hint of realization in his voice. "I have an idea where he might be found. Yes, every time I ran into him, it was…"

"Left wing?" Aurora asked after seeing Adam lead her in that direction. "What would he be doing here? His room is on the opposite side, isn't it?"

"Don't ask me, Major," Adam said with a shrug. "Maybe he's trying to access someone's quarters."

Captain, Heidi, and Princess Tila are all living near each other, and they all are potential targets for lt. Chand. If he's the mole, that is.

"Logs show no irregularities..." Aurora said, her hand on her chin. "Though it seems the camera was tampered with sometime in the last few evenings. But that's—"

Fuck, that's me. I turned off some cameras between infirmary and my secret room… dammit, I'm so stupid!

"It could be a pl—" Aurora stopped mid-sentence and saluted. "Your Highness."

Sudden appearance of princess Tila causes major – and me- to quickly salute. This woman really knows how to sneak on you, despite her gaudy beauty.

"At ease, Major, Ensign," Tila said, waving them off. "Is something the matter? I saw you around my room, so I thought I might be of help."

"No, Your Highness, everything is in ord—" Aurora began, before Adam cut in, "Actually, Your Highness, we're looking for Lt. Chand."

"Yes, I've seen him many times in passing," Tila explained, "but he never seems to engage with me."

Huh? I thought he was sneaking around, but if princess saw him many times, that means… what is going on with you, lt. Chand.
