Chapter 45: Hey, That Old Snape!
"Has Hagrid talked about the Philosopher's Stone to you?"
There was a low voice from the front.
Dylan nodded: "I deduced it from a bit of information Harry told me. Of course, when I went to see Hagrid some time ago, he accidentally let some things slip, so I was certain that it was the Philosopher's Stone."
The last time Neville dragged him along to search for Hagrid, after Hagrid completed making the special fertilizer for the Flame Thorn, they went to Hagrid's hut again.
Neville had gone to get the fertilizer then, and he had a talk with Hagrid. Hagrid accidentally told him a number of things.
"That guy." Professor Snape's voice was serious.
"We can't blame him. I think he's been worried that the Philosopher's Stone is going to be stolen, and he hasn't been sleeping much lately. He's always had a problem with insomnia, so he let it slip accidentally." Dylan added a sentence on behalf of Hagrid.
The reason he mentioned the Philosopher's Stone openly in front of Snape was that Hagrid had let it slip to him before.
Although he did not say the Philosopher's Stone completely, Hagrid caught himself in the middle.
But combined with the facts Harry told him, any person who listened could easily conclude that the thing Hagrid took out of Gringotts was the Philosopher's Stone.
He now openly disclosed the problem to Snape, so as to avoid Dumbledore coming to him for trouble later.
He did not want to be in too close a touch with Dumbledore.
Secondly, he did not exactly want to lie to Harry.
Dylan assumed those things were likely arranged by Dumbledore behind his back.
Even if not, Dumbledore ought to know some of the things Harry had been doing lately.
So, even if he used Incendio to burn the proof of his use of dark magic.
Yet in the situation where Dumbledore was most likely watching Harry's actions, he wanted to be completely out of it, and it was better to report to a professor what he had heard.
And Professor Snape was evidently very suitable to play this role.
He wanted to create the impression of a first-year young wizard who, although he knew about the Philosopher's Stone, was not interested, had no plans, and was just very keen on learning, honest and reliable.
As a matter of fact, Dylan had some ideas about the Philosopher's Stone.
However, he did not want to use the Philosopher's Stone to obtain so-called eternal life, but wanted to use it for research.
In this universe, the ways of achieving immortality, other than the Philosopher's Stone, are drinking unicorn blood and the creation of Horcruxes.
Yet none of these techniques are definite.
The Philosopher's Stone can keep one alive, yet it is unable to stop the body from aging.
Unicorn blood will curse the drinker.
And Horcruxes.
There are plenty of other side effects.
Either the soul is torn apart, or psychology and feelings gradually get deformed.
The destinies of these people who tried to violate the laws of nature through evil methods were obvious.
However, Nicolas Flamel succeeded in learning about the Philosopher's Stone through his own strength. In any case, his final destiny was much better than that of Voldemort and Herpo the Foul.
Since the Philosopher's Stone can be researched, although the Philosopher's Stone cannot render the human body invulnerable to aging, what if the research results can be upgraded further?
Magic is the same as doing scientific research.
If you work hard, you can always make advancements!
Professor Snape led Dylan downstairs.
However, on the way, they ran into two people.
"Huh? Dylan?"
Professor McGonagall and Quirrell stood in front of Snape and Dylan.
Professor McGonagall gazed at Dylan's shape, a little confused.
Dylan opened his mouth, just about to speak.
Professor Snape suddenly said, "He used my potion to kill a troll."
Huh?
Dylan was a little surprised, but he glanced at the calm Professor Snape out of the corner of his eye.
Hey, that old Snape!
"What?" Professor McGonagall stopped in her tracks, her expression stunned, and the lines on her face smoothed out. "You killed a troll? Where?"
Dylan gazed at Quirrell, then pointed to the dungeon ahead.
"There, in the bathroom, Harry and the others are there as well."
"What?!!!" Professor McGonagall's eyes widened, then she quickly walked towards the dungeon.
She headed straight to the girls' bathroom.
She noticed a sparrow-faced little wizard stepping awkwardly aside, apologizing to another little wizard.
"I know my words were too much, I'm sorry, Hermione."
The moment Ron's voice fell.
The three saw Professor McGonagall rushing in through the doorway.
They were about to greet her, but Professor Snape also entered with a scowling face.
Harry, Ron, and the others bowed their heads slightly and retreated their necks.
"You lot are very brave." Professor McGonagall scowled and gazed at the troll on the ground next to the stall.
The troll's previously ferocious body was now burned beyond recognition by the flames, and its legs and arms stretched out in a distorted manner.
The basic characteristics of its whole body were burned into oblivion, and only two black eyes lay on the ground, looking at them.
"Oh my goodness, did Dylan utilize Professor Snape's potion to accomplish this?" Professor McGonagall turned her head and looked at Dylan, who was approaching from the door.
"What, potion?" Ron was startled, just about to say something, but was bitten painfully on the soft flesh of his arm by Hermione sitting next to him.
Ouch!
Ron widened his eyes, but did not dare make a peep.
Dylan nodded: "In addition to that, my Incendio also performed a great role."
Snape took two steps forward, drew out a handkerchief, held it over his nose, and looked down at the troll lying on the ground at his feet.
After a very long time, he narrowed his eyes, but said nothing.
Instead, he turned to look at Harry: "I was told that you brought Hockwood and Mr. Weasley here?"
Harry blinked, not answering immediately, but instead looking at Dylan.
Dylan looked at his nose and nose, and moved aside obediently.
Harry clenched his lips: "Yes."
"Well done, Mr. Potter, your recklessness almost caused a catastrophe. Gryffindor loses twenty points for this!"
Harry opened his mouth: "But, we came to rescue Hermione."
"Students get kidnapped, don't tell the professor, but take a risk by yourself, and still want to argue, Gryffindor loses another ten points!"
Professor Snape's voice became more severe: "If you have anything else to refute, I will suggest that Professor McGonagall arrange a detention for you. Personally, I don't care."
"Professor Snape, I know what Harry did was wrong. I will make him learn his lesson."
Professor McGonagall quickly interrupted Snape's words.
Snape icily stared at Harry but had nothing more to say.
Professor McGonagall turned around to look back at Harry, her eyes warning him.
Harry eventually shut his mouth completely, lowered his head, but glanced at Dylan from the corner of his eye.
No, why is he the only one getting scolded?
There are so many people who went with him!
